The Archers Basketball and TPC All Stars pulled off confidence building wins at the opening day of the 1st PinoyEXchange.com Invitational Basketball Tournament at the Meralco Gym Saturday night.

The Archers relied on the hot shooting hands of Daniel Martinez in the early goings before leaning on the clutch baskets of Anthony Castro and Ron Nineza to defeat the Espana Alligators 65-59.

The Archers raced to an early lead in the first period as their speedy guards took control of the tempo while the Alligators were still groping for form trying to find out the combinations that will click for them.

As game progressed the same story was witnessed as the Archers who after pulling ahead by 8 to 10 markers will suddenly fall silent giving the Alligators the opportunity to come back in the game

The Gators got a break when Martinez suddenly had to leave the game in the 3rd period due to emergency and the Alligators capitalized this

In the fourth period they almost completed the comeback with Jay Maala and Arvy Trinidad leading the Alligators to cut the deficit to just 2 with less than 3 mins remain

But suddenly the Archers woke up with Castro and Nineza drilling back breaking 3 pointers while Daven Galindez scored a layin to give the Archers a 10 point lead with 2 minutes remaining.

In the nightcap the TPC All Stars survived the hard fighting MyPBA.com Black Hawk Down 83-79

Raymond Alborte and Rafael Osorio stood tall for TPC as they combined for 46 points in the game

Alborte using his heft advantage was nearly unstoppable in the shaded lane while Osorio's daredevil drives had the other team scratching their heads.

TPC started the game on fire scoring the game's first 12 points as Mypba were caught flatfooted but as the game progressed, The Black Hawk Down found their groove with Robin Galang waxing hot in the 2nd period with 11 markers giving the Mypba Selection a 45-40 lead at the break.

TPC then went on the attack mode in the third period with Osorio leading the way and regained the upperhand at 60-58

MyPBA then went on a 6-0 run at the start of the fourth to get the lead back but TPC calmly settled down and returned the favor to take the lead.

The Red and Yellow team then further increased their lead to 7 at 77-70 as Black Hawk Down succumb to pressure which resulted to back to back turnovers.

MyPBA tried to get back at the game but they consecutively missed their 3 point attempts which sealed their fate in the game.

January 24, 2012 will be known as day of the undermanned in the PinoyEXchange.com Invitationals.

This after Stages Construction and Team Archers won over their respective opponents despite having only 5 players suit up in the game.

The Stages survive the winless but hard fighting Incontact 63-54 to move up in the team standings

Carlo Franco saved the day for the Stages as he scored the last 9 points of his team to help the Stages get the win.

It was an exciting game as both teams exchange spurts with Incontact waxing hot first in the first quarter before Stages staged their run.

That run saw the Stages take a commanding 32-21 and 41-28 lead in the third period.

But the never say die attitude of Incontact suddenly woke up and led by their diminutive guard Jun Herrera, the Incontact roared back to the game and took the lead at 47-45 with 5 mins and 30 seconds left in the game.

But the Stages quickly tied the game with a quick basket followed by Franco and Jericho Ilagan's baskets which gave the oranged striped jersey team a 6 point lead at 53-47.

Incontact's Yellah then took matters in his own hands scoring back to back baskets to cut the lead of the Stages to just two at 53-51

After 2 freebies by Franco, the Incontact then connected from the rainbow territory to inch closer at 55-54.

Franco then took matters in his own hands by scoring key baskets in the last two minutes while the Stages shut down the offense of Incontact

Franco led the Stages with 25 markers while Herrera topscored for the Incontact team with 27 points including 16 in the third period alone.

In the nightcap, Team Archers got the solo leadership in the team standings after demolishing Team Mobsters 91-78

Lou Abad shot the lights out as he scored 34 points including 17 points in the fourth period

The Archers took control of the game early and while the Mobsters appeared to close the gap several times, the Archers lead by Abad and Dan Martinez would then frustrate their opponents with timely baskets.

The Mobsters would then try to speed up the tempo but the Archers would counter it with pricise ball movement and shooting.

ELITE VS STAGES The Unexpected Finals Matchup

Things couldnt get better than this.

For the Friday Night Elite and Stages Design and Construction, reaching the finals of The PinoyExchange.com Invitationals would be the farthest thing in their minds especially after seeing top seeds Team Archers and TPC All Stars dominate the playing field early on in the eliminations.

In fact, for the Elite, they both lost to the top seeds in the elims while the Stages struggled with attendance thus both falling in the team standings early on

But as the season progressed the two teams showed their determination and finished 3rd and 5th respectively in the team standings.

The Elite then demolished the hapless Mobsters in the quarterfinals while Stages did their job and registered an amazing come from behind victory over MyPBA.com Black Hawk Down.

In the semifinals, both encountered huge roadblocks in Archers and TPC but the two teams overcame the challenge and won their respective semifinal matches in come from behind fashion.

With the wins, the two set up in what is expected to be a slam bang championship game where every possession counts, every plays matter and every second is important.

The Elite will rely on main men Beau Pajahat, Mike Soliven and JR Lozada while Stages has their own big three in JA Coching, Erick Arejola and Paul Franco

It's Friday Night Elite vs. Stages Design and Construction for the championship of PinoyExchange.com Invitationals at the APC Gym this Saturday.
