As long as Japeth doesnt get injured I think we're good

Well I certainly hope that there is no need to give more minutes for Japeth because you want to preserve him till the Playoffs come around. With Devance also out, kailangan talaga na may mapiga out of Prince, Raymond and hopefully Arvin. I also expect Aljon to play more minutes at PF since he was able to decently match-up with Durham last conference.

The one guy that I really wish would be healthy this season is Arth Dela Cruz. Madaming pwedeng itulong to sa team if he just stays fit.

PBA: Trade rumor ‘Slaughtered,’ CJ Perez next?

    March 2, 2020

    MICHAEL ANGELO B. ASIS

The PBA has yet to implement their unrestricted free agency, which will begin for the 2014 draft class. Until then, players will be considered as commodities for their mother companies.

The unrestricted free agency rule was modeled after the NBA wherein the teams can still control the fate of their players for the first seven years.

    The case of Greg Slaughter

The PBA had to remind the public that Greg Slaughter will be a free agent if Ginebra does not extend an offer. Latest buzz is that they have submitted an offer sheet to the PBA in the nick of time.

This will then throw the ball into Slaughter’s court. If he doesn’t sign an offer, then he will not become a free agent, and Ginebra will keep his rights. Ginebra can trade him, but which team in their right minds will take Slaughter knowing that he’s reluctant to play with any other team outside of Ginebra.

It’s a stalemate now. Ginebra is showing they can live without Slaughter, but Slaughter is also doing the same. He is not in the same predicament as Calvin Abueva who has a family to feed.

The best case for Ginebra is to just sign Slaughter and keep him as a back-up. However, if the allegations that he asked for more playing time, a no-trade clause and a max salary hold true, then he may have just called his own bluff.

    The empire strikes back

The MVP group has got its inevitable wish: a center for the TNT Ka-Tropa. This is their way of saying: “It’s TNT’s turn, NLEX can have the future and Blackwater is stuck in the mud forever.”

TNT got Erram, and NLEX gets Blackwater’s precious 2020 first round pick which could become Thirdy Ravena, Kobe Paras or Joshua Munzon (thanks to the PBA ban). Blackwater is the team that only served as a conduit to help the teams execute, and they get a poo-poo platter in return.

Side note: The trade was obviously initiated by TNT for their center woes, and NLEX got excited with a possible Ravena brothers’ reunion. Blackwater had no stake in this—but the owner of Blackwater was the one who aired his disappointment. Go figure.

Trades will rarely get shot down entirely as they have already been agreed upon by both parties. The trade committee will only revise it to make it “as fair as possible.”

Since TNT will now be a well-rounded team capable of snaring the Philippine Cup trophy, the goal of SMC now will be to keep it in their fold. With JuneMar Fajardo injured, it is likely San Miguel Beer takes a backseat, and Ginebra is supposedly the one to take its place.

The alleged plan was to acquire Christian Standhardinger, but with Greg Slaughter as the rumored centerpiece for that, they may have to make a shift. CJ Perez was the name rumored for an SMB revamp, but with the initial plan “Slaughtered,” Perez may have to shift destinations.

If SMC is pursuing CJ Perez, will he head to Ginebra instead of SMB? This is something to watch in the coming week before the PBA opens

MVP!

You can't really blame a natural help defender like him if he's prone to foul trouble when he's contesting every shots.

Kailangan talaga mag step up nila Raymond at Caperal.

Sana ma avoid nila mainjure this coming season.

"We have a big hole in our team without Greg Slaughter, and we're expecting to be like that for the rest of the conference," Cone said.

Losing Slaughter certainly makes Ginebra's mission tougher, but it also allows for Japeth Aguilar to play at a higher level – a development that Cone is excited to witness."

I think it's gonna give an opportunity for Japeth, really, to spread his wings and play. He's always wanted to play 38, 40 minutes a game, 42 (minutes)," he said.

"He gets mad every time I take him out, so he's gonna get that opportunity now without Greg, having to share time with Greg. So you know, it will be fun to watch how Japeth grows this conference," he added.

This doesn't bode well for the team. If your primary big man was already logging in 35-38 minutes last season, and your coach still sees an opportunity to give you 'more' minutes this year, baka sumunod kay Junemar to. Wear and tear will eventually take its toll on his body. If anything, Greg's sabbatical is more of a good news to the likes of Caperal, ADLC, Mariano and Tolentino. Dapat mai-spread out yung minutes niya diyan sa apat at di ilagak lahat kay Japeth. Jusmiyo Apa. Sunugan nanaman ba to?

Most of the prime centers not only in the pba but also in the nba have experienced wear and tear kaya mas mahaba lifespan ng guards kesa sa centers.

Disagree. The opposite is actually true - big men have longer basketball careers. Robert Parish played 21 seasons. Kareem played 20, Shaq 19, Hakeem 18, Ewing 17. In the PBA, Asi has played more than 20 years. Ramon Fernandez and Abet Guidaben played 19 and 20 years, respectively. Yung mga big man na hinde nagtagal, talagang may mga physical impairment or were unfortunately hit by career-ending injuries. Bihira yung mga kagaya ni Kobe, Vince Carter or Jaworski who played 20 years and up.

Japeth's playing style is not conventional for a big man, kaya dapat magingat sya at bawasan ang minutes.
  • incorruptibleincorruptible PEx Veteran ⭐⭐
I'm also looking forward to seeing Japeth not share the minutes with Greg. I notice he always plays much much better when Greg is out. Its a matter of unloading some of the responsibilities to the other Bigman siguro like guarding the opposite Bigs to other players like Caperal/ R. Aguilar

I slightly agree na its time Japeth lessens his dunks especially when not needed. Ika nga 2 pts is 2 pts whether you dunk it or not. that would probably lengthen his tenure.
