    Argentina line up
    2014 Fiba worlds
    2019 Fiba worlds
    2004 Gold medal team

    My observations particularly age
    1. The older the team they send, the lower they finish. I think wala ata sa top 8 un Argentina in 2014.
    2. Their star players or the strong unit age average is 25. Meaning 20 pa lang batak na sila. sa atin 25 last playing year pa lang sa UAAP.
    3. After their u19 group, sinasabak na sila sa Junior pro leagues. Sa atin bka nsa Team B pa or iba nsa HS pa or rookie pa lng sa college.
    4. after stars/veterans of Argentina left and retired after 2014 Fiba worlds, may kapalit agad by 2019. And theyre battle ready. In short, hinog na.

Pilipinas must find out how to develop players long term. hindi ningas cogon at sa pba din huli maghhabol.  I think NCAA and UAAP should lower their age limit to 22.

the program is a circus because of politics, we need a foreign coach who can make a firm stand and stomach the ills of the basketball scene here

    ==================

bigyan na ng passport. he will be 19 years by 2023. huwag munang papuntahin sa Pinas ay baka lumaki ang ulo tulad nina Kobe Paras at Ray Parks Jr. encourage the kid to aim for the NCAA while giving him a minimum allowance. pupunta lang siya kapag may U19 competitions.

this would give Gilas 2 seven footers. 2023 pwede na siguro palaruin sina Kia Sotto, AJ Edu & Troy Rike. feeling ko Fajardo would be too old and slow to compete. we can now look for another mercenary. maybe a small forward who can shoot, pass, rebound and defend.

Real talk from Guiao: 'Pinoy bigs too slow, our guards too small'

    by REUBEN TERRADO

    Link: https://www.spin.ph/basketball/fiba/guiao-stresses-need-to-develop-taller-athletic-players-a795-20190912?ref=home_featured_1

FORMER Gilas Pilipinas coach Yeng Guiao said coaches in the grassroots level must strive develop tall, athletic players that can give future national teams a fighting chance in international competitions such as the Fiba Basketball World Cup.

Guiao said the traditional Filipino basketball player is no longer at par with the rest of the world, adding drastic measures need to be made at the grassroots level in order to move Philippine basketball closer to the world level of play.

Guiao stressed that point in a meeting with Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) executives on Tuesday following the dismal performance of Gilas Pilipinas in the Fiba Basketball World Cup where the country finished dead last.

Guiao said international players have become taller, more athletic, and more skillful compared to the traditional Filipino player. Even quick Filipino guards have become less effective when pitted against foreign rivals who likely possess the same qualities, but are taller.

“It’s getting very athletic,” Guiao said.

Guiao said coaches at the grassroots level should now consider teaching guard skills to big man to prepare them for the international game.

“Kung itatapat mo ‘yung big man natin, big man kayo pareho, ‘yung isa mas mabilis, ‘yung big man na Pilipino, mabagal, lugi na tayo.

Hanap tayo if it’s international.

Currently, Guiao sees that there are only a few coaches in all levels from high school to the PBA whose system is fit for the international style of play.

“We need to develop players with height who can play point guard and wings. The other thing is their 7-footers, 6-11, 6-10, hindi mo puwedeng iwanan sa three-point area. They can space the floor and they have that skill.

“Kapag titignan mo ang PBA natin, there is nobody there who can take that outside shot with confidence and who has developed that skill. Dito sa team namin, matagal ko na ginagawa kasi na ‘yung bigs who can take the three-point shot and when they get to my team, we make sure that they add that to their skill set. But from high school, to college, to the PBA, very few coaches or very few systems develop that,” Guiao said.

Guiao hopes that the recent performance of Gilas Pilipinas in the Fiba Basketball World Cup should also serve as an eye-opener to coaches in the grassroots level.

“That is why just developing the skills that are required to be successful in the world level, kailangan mo na umpisahan sa mga bata, bigs who can run the floor, ibig sabihin, nagfa-fastbreak at hindi sila hihintayin para nandoon sila sa poste,” Guiao said.

New Gilas coach needed ASAP as deadline for naming SEA Games team nears

    Link: https://www.spin.ph/multisport/sea-games/gilas-coach-needed-asap-as-deadline-for-sea-games-entry-by-name-nears-a793-20190912?ref=article_featured_1

THE Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) will be hard-pressed to name a head coach for Gilas Pilipinas at least for the coming 30th Southeast Asian Games with the deadline for the submission of the names by entry set by the end of the month.

A total of 30 names were initially given by the SBP when it submitted an initial list of players during the deadline for entry by delegation last June which included naturalized players Andray Blatche, Christian Standhardinger and Stanley Pringle.

The men’s basketball team is suddenly left without a coach following the resignation of Yeng Guiao Wednesday in the aftermath of Gilas Pilipinas’ tragic campaign in the Fiba World Cup in China in which the Filipinos lost by an average margin of 29.4 in five games.

The SBP has yet to come up with a list from which it will name Guiao’s replacement.

However, two names have constantly cropped up as national coach candidates in the wake of the dismal World Cup campaign - Ateneo coach Tab Baldwin and current Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone.

Both Baldwin and Cone had previous stints with the national team - Cone in the 1998 Asiad where he led the all-pro Centennial Team to a bronze medal, and Baldwin in the 2015 Fiba Asia Championship where Gilas finished runner-up.

Another logical replacement for Guiao is Rain or Shine coach Caloy Garcia, who served as the former's assistant from the 2018 Asian Games through the World Cup qualifiers to the conclave in China.

Prior to leaving for the World Cup, Guiao already mentioned that those who failed to make the final 12-man roster to China will be heavily considered in the SEA Games lineup.

Among those left out were Beau Belga and injured players Matthew Wright, Marcio Lassiter and Poy Erram.

The Philippines have maintained its dominance in SEA Games basketball since 1991. The only time it failed to win a basketball gold medal in a SEA Games where it competed was in 1989 in Kuala Lumpur.

it's not politics; it's business rivalry

if di na aasa sa pba (domain of smc) for its line-up, then baldwin na yan.  balik sa gilas 1

unless baldwin finally found some charms and convinces smc to support his NT initiatives; otherwise back to 2015 uli ang mangyayari

eala/smc was not too discreet in the same tweet; mukhang di pa ren nila ma-'stomach' si baldwn lol

    oh well, who knows
