It depends on people's perspectives. If a picture paints a thousand words, then why can't I paint you? lol no but seriously.

For real Artists, they surely choose painting over photography any day. They can express their emotions through painting. Remember Mona Lisa Smile? it became very popular because of its unique style, and it is being said, her smile is mysterious. Those who don't have knowledge/talent/skill in painting won't understand it the science of art.
  • Being a seudo artist, I would say no way. Painting takes greater skills and not everyone who wanted to learn to paint can become a master. Photography on the other hand requires more fund to be a master.

    Depends it's different media.

Photography is hard in the sense that you cannot necessarily control the shot you're doing (while you literally dictate all in painting).

Photography is HARDER than people think is (knowing how to tweak your camera, often times on the fly, manually and then framing the shot in real time...it's very difficult).

At the same time that's also what makes it easy (because you don't have to create what goes on an easel).

But honestly, 50% of good photography is equipment + post-processing.

Pero you cannot shoot a great photo without understanding a. technology if your camera b. fundamentals of photography (like lighting, shutter speed) c. setup almost always based on imagination/creativity/vision, I think that's the other 50%.

I still think though that fundamentals trump equipment in the sense that with basic camera nowadays you can capture great shots, but I've seen mga oldies buying prosumer cameras = comes out slightly better picture than what you could've with iPhone because a. they don't really know the fundamental b. they don't really know the technology in those cameras (its almost always on auto or they don't even mess with it) :glee:

Pero in the end, just like painting, just do it. Keep getting better at it and just have fun.

That's what art is for...but I think without fundamentals, most people's pictures are the same with DLSR and iPhone for the most part.

    :glee:

Iba pa rin yung hand made, for example pag digital puede kang makagawa ng perfect circle dahil nga digital pero try it using hand without using a compass and good luck with it. It's also takes a lot of imagination to properly use shades and shadows. Have you noticed in CGI movies, some works are evidently fake because of wrong shades and shadows, like a dragon for example that has no shadow while flying. Painting is especially hard, if you're only using your imagination without any model or scenery to look into. That's why, I really admire them great painters, for example Michaelangelo's work on Sistine Chapel ceiling. It's so hard to paint while lying down and imagine the correct proportions of your subjects.

Ang bopols talaga ng logic ni panis na puto mga tol. The question, which is better between the two? Question. better in terms of what? in what area? in what aspect?... ang sinabi ni panis na puto ay painting daw, binase nya kung ano alin ang mas mahal kung ibenta...

Logically speaking, for example, football is the most watched sport/most popular sport. pagsabihin din ba dun, football is the best sport? NO..

Hindi mo naman yan ibabase just because mas mahal ang painting kesa sa photograph ay pagsabihin better na... there are some things still need to consider para maging "better" hay naku.. hina talaga ng utak ni panis na puto. mahina logic nyan ni panis na puto mga tol. ang kitid mag isip...YEAH RIGHT UPCAT PASSER ba?? lol lol lol... UPCAT PASSER my *****$

To answer the question. EACH HAS ITS OWN PROS AND CONS. No question asked. 'Nuff said. End of story.

During college I felt the dread or using SLR's with films. Everything is meticulous, from the type of film to be use, natural lighting condition, setting up "artificial lighting", up to the correct settings of the camera. Normal people find it easy shoot and click but no, its not that simple. I had photography classes back in 2004 during the time when the usage of films are slowly fading in popularity and with the digital age slowly surfacing. Our design and arts dept. composed of hardline traditionalists photographers (mga matatanda) persisted us on using "traditional photography" and any outputs that are digitally enhanced are failed in their project. Fast forward today, Photography and photo editing softwares is now a requirementin media printing and publishing. Photography was made "easier" now

To answer the question, painting's better.

OT: is there anyone in the Philippines who's selling a working lindhof camera?

    Linhof_000140_RD1_a1308.jpg

I'm curious with the simple operation, and the images the very long exposure it produces.

Grew up watching Bob Ross but unfortunately I was not blessed with the right skills so I resorted to photography.

Painting to me is better since the artist can express his own thoughts and ideas unlike with Photography, you will see a lot of the same pictures and angles especially with a tourist attraction.

Drawing is a way for me to show my creativity. However drawing is not as easy as it seems to be. It needs a lot of devotion as well as practice. Of course some have  a hobby to make pictures and it is the same a great and creative way of art. I have tried many styles and techniques of painting . Now I am practising 5d diamond painting. There are two major shapes are round and square, but there a variety of special shapes that are used to accent certain paintings. Each kit comes with a variety of tools and the  good news is that the tools last for a long time. Recommend to everyone who is passionate in painting to try this new and unique technique
