Atypical Pneumonia & Bronchiectasis with Bleeding of lungs. — PinoyExchange

Atypical Pneumonia & Bronchiectasis with Bleeding of lungs.

I am hoping someone or some MD here can help me.

I was diagnosed with Atypical Pneumonia & Bronchiectasis and confined at hospital for 3 days.
It started with bleeding from my lungs (dinodura ko or inuubo ko), I think 2-4 tablespoons ang volume ng dugo. Once or twice a day ngyayari sa akin ito.

After few days at hospital, i was prescribed with Anti Biotic med. and since my HMO maxed out i released my self from hospital.

I am at home now, resting and taking med. Pero ngyayari pa rin sa akin ang bleeding.

Is this normal (bleeding) for this kind of illness?

Wala akong ibang nararamdaman, wala akong TB, or sakit sa ulo or walang ubo. feeling ko normal at malakas/masigla ako, liban lang sa may bleeding na ngyayari.

ang sabi sa akin ng doctor, mayron akong sugat sa left lungs(from CT scan). negative ang result sa TB, wala naman daw akong tumor or sign of cancer sa lungs. Yung nga lang may sugat ako na malamang galing sa kapabayaan ko i was a smoker (now i do stop na).

may kilala ba kayong specialist (pulmonary maybe) na mura lang ang Service fee, gusto ko ng second opinion. Im from mandaluyong.

  • Pneumonia can cause hemoptysis (coughing out of blood or blood-tinged sputum), so it's not unusual. However the question is if your pneumonia has been resolved or properly treated since you went home against medical advice. You'll need to follow-up with a physician, preferably a pulmonologist, to re-evaluate your condition especially if you're still experiencing hemoptysis . If you have financial concerns consider consulting at the service (charity) outpatient department of government hospitals, e.g. at PGH.
  • no i didn't go home against doctor's advice. I talked to my doctor before i was released.
All the tests are complete, so i was given a prescribed med. And i can rest at home.

For now, the bleeding stopped. the anti biotic med i am taking right now maybe working, lots of sleep also helped.

but I am now thinking of follow up check-up, i don't want this to happen again. I am a father of 3 kids. can u recommend a specialist?

And I wonder how old you are.

Hemoptysis or spitting out of blood coming from the respiratory tract can occur in any ailment related to it. Infection remains the number 1 cause of hemoptysis, therefore pneumonia can be under that umbrella.

I presume that you had a complete work-up considering that you mentioned CT scan. If pneumonia is entertained, it is best that a follow-up is done after the medications given are completed. Your doctor would most likely repeat the chest x-ray. If there is a consideration of bronchiectasis by CT scan, it is one of the probable cause of the bleeding, and therefore, the hemoptysis.

There are a lot of competent pulmonologists in Mandaluyong. Try looking at the roster of MDs at STI Megaclinic. Please make sure you have all your chest x-rays, CT scan plates with you (actual plates and not just the reading) for re-evaluation, if you really want a second opinion. Otherwise, please see your attending physician for the follow-up.
