Career Path: In what field/industry are you working now?

makulitzmakulitz Member PEx Veteran ⭐⭐
I want this thread to enlighten some alumni and even students in what field they really want to pursue. Tulungan by sharing some info ;)

I'll start. I'm a CE grad and working in the field of Structural Engineering. I'm based in SG (steel fabrication comp) and previously worked in UAE.

I'm an Architect connected with an "AAA" contractor, they say dalawang klase ang architects, one who is mainly focused on the design and the one who implements the designs.

Sa case ko mas gusto ko ang nasa real world of construction, since matutunan mo lahat ng fields of engineering, sideline ng konti sa personal design and build projects. :)

    ^Welcome sa pex arkidrafts!

Ayos yan. Pa-quote next time.hehe

I'm an ECE and I started working at aTelco. So far so good naman.
  • makulitzmakulitz Member PEx Veteran ⭐⭐
^xybert, Telco din ba yung 2nd company mo dati?

off-topic: Ilang days holiday diyan sa CHinese New Year? Dito 2 days e.

    I quite drifted.

I finished BS Civil Eng - MS Construction Eng, 2007.
I'm currently working for a global leader in the Wind Energy industry, as SAP Consultant for Project Management. The linkage I have with the engineering industry is on the academe, taking up PhD studies in UP.

What triggered the drift was the low income an engineer would get in the construction area. :(
I understand everybody goes through here, but in times like this, you gotta be smart; you gotta move your way through in order to balance professional and financial stability.

What are your plans after your Phd?

JGC and Chiyoda are construction companies for oil and gas companies. oil and gas companies are shell, chevron, petron, exxon, bp, total etc. actually very rewarding pagnagwowork sa oil and gas companies. *okay*

May co-worker ako dati sa UAE, he worked for chevron phil. sabi niya ok daw ang sahod and benefits (i.e. car, etc.).

Hi sir, I have a question, do you have any idea what the figures are in terms of salary for a construction engineer in an oil/gas sector in the Middle East?

Because I received an offer last year from a company in Makati which is affiliated with JGC, and the offer was only $370 with an allowance of $600, although it was only for a Level I Engineer, pero parang masyadong maliit considering na ako bahala sa lodging and all those stuff, long story short, I declined their offer. I just want to have an idea para in the future if given another chance, yung decisions ko will be based on facts instead of gut-feel, because alot of my batchmates are saying that I made a wrong decision and its bugging the hell out of me. btw, may parang training pa sa office nila for 6 months before getting deployed.

    Thanks.

spanishsardine I forgot to add design and construction companies pala sila ehehehehe. Maraming Chevron companies dito sa pinas. Chevron Malampaya, Chevron Geothermal, Chevron Phils Inc at Chevron Shared Services. Sa Chevron Phils Inc ako and nakabase sa Batangas. we are the one handling the Caltex brand.

They classify their company as EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction).

More on operations din yata. Btw, Batch 2002 ka din diba?

Like what spanishsardine said, mababa yung offer tapos babawasan mo pa ng lodging, food, etc.

It is still up to you ;)

Oh well, gusto ko sana sa design eh kaso puro construction co. ang tumatanggap sakin :( Ang hirap maghanap ng trabaho pag first job pa lang..
