AP Lakwatseros' Thread (Traveler's Thread)

jim12hpotterfanjim12hpotterfan working in the motherland PExer
So I'm almost finished watching "1000 Places to See Before You Die" by Nat Geo, and I really want to go to the culturally impressive countries that I saw.

There's nothing that can compare to the thrill of immersing yourself to the culture, the people, most especially the food of other countries.

So to everyone that has a bucket list of sorts of the places that they want to go to or that they have been to, can you list them down and tell a little FYI about those countries.

The purpose of this thread is to help each other out when someone is going out on a trip to a certain country. I know there is a Travel and Leisure thread that's separate, but wouldn't it be fun for AP to have it's own thread? (Nakura please don't close this one down wink) (Plus everyone's trying to have a budget friendly trip)

Here's Mine:
HAVE BEEN TO (and it's all China) :
1. Shenzhen - twice
Must See: Window of the World, Splendid China.

2. Wu Yi Shan, Fujian - twice
Must See: The Narrow Cave. The Heavenly Tour. This other mountain I don't know the name of. The scenery up the mountain is priceless and in the early morning.

3. Xiamen - practically live here
Must See: Gu Lang Yi Island, Zhong Shan Lu, Xiamen University.

4. Fu Zhou - forgot what I did here

5. Shun De in Guang Dong province
Must See: Huang Mama's cooking.
Must Eat: Double boiled Milk super thumbs up, and their other Chinese desserts. I've never had so many different kinds of Chinese desserts seen on a single menu on different stores

WANT TO (at ang dami lang) :
1. Peru - Machu Pichu
2. India - oh the culture
3. Hongkong - yes, hindi pa ako naka HK
4. China's Beijing and Shanghai - I've already covered the 2 other major cities.
5. Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia - highschool dabarkads are planning this for next year
6. Brazil
7. France - duh given
8. Italy
9. Africa
10. Mexico
11. Spain
12. The Red District of Amsterdam, Netherlands
13. Tibet - they say you need 1 whole month for this
14. Japan

That's it so far. :bashful:

Special Mention to ahya curiouser, I know you're well traveled.

Adik ka jim. Talagang special mention? :bop:

:bop: Pero wala kayong maaasahan sa aking ganun kasi di naman ako lumalabas on that scene.

^Hya! talaga naman! When I said you were well traveled, I never imagine you would be WELL TRAVELED, 10 out of 14 at your young delicious age is an achievement. You already! grabeh lang hahaha

Idamay mo nako sa Peru mo!!!! Pleeeeaseee!!! (I have my own spending money, baka sabihin mo hinuhuthutan kita hahaha)

Are you planning on going to Shanghai? Idamay mo nako? Please. Kasi pag niyayaya ko yung mga pinsan ko, malamang ako gagastos sa kanila, eh panalo yun, parang nag tour ako and payed for four people.

    @spartanboi
Peru oh... ayan tatlo na. yes. do I smell a backpacking trip? lol
Romania, the land of Bam Stroker - Dracula? nice...

I think there's already a similar thread. I haven't gone to too many places. I've just discovered this interest in traveling just last year. As much as I'd like to pursue it, the costs can be quite prohibitive.

    Places I've been to:

    Sydney - twice
Must See: Opera House (syempre), Blue Mountains, Manly Beach, Bondi Beach, Darling Harbor, Featherdale Zoo, Olympic Park (during Royal Easter Show)

Canberra and rest of NSW - city center (wasn't able to explore much), Snowy Mountains (winter)

Beijing - Mutianyu Great Wall, Forbidden City, Jingshan Park, Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, 798, dami! Will definitely be back

    Outside NCR/Southern Luzon/Central Luzon, Naga/Daet/Calaguas, Davao, Bacolod

    Where I want to go

    1. The rest of the Philippines of course
    2. Thailand/Cambodia/Myanmar/Vietnam - basically an Indochina backpacking trip
    3. Hong Kong - just to see Disneyland :glee:
    4. Czech Republic - Prague especially; I heard it is comparable to Paris at only a fraction of the price
    5. France
    6. UK - always wanted to study here
    7. Italy
    8. Spain
    9. Scandinavia - anywhere where I can see the Northern Lights
    10. Chile - specifically, Easter Island
    11. Ecuador - for Quito and Ingapirca
    12. Brazil - 2014 hopefully but improbable
    13. Egypt
    14. Japan.
    15. India

    That's it for now.

    dracula tour, yep yep!
    magastos kasi pag european tour
    kulang ang 50k, *cry*
  • jim12hpotterfanjim12hpotterfan working in the motherland PExer
    @spartan
kamusta naman yun diba. 50k is not easy money.

May mga nakakasama nga ako sa tour matatanda favorite line nila "pagod nako" as in mga 100 times a day ko yun naririnig.

At dito mo talaga gusto pag-usapan yan? Hehehe.

Same goes for Tibet. May friends ako na pumunta dun recently. Kinuha nila yung 2-day train ride from Beijing para mag-acclimatize. Kulang pa rin daw.

2 - No definite plans of going to Shanghai again, yet. May two major trips planned ako for early next year, so pag may budget pa ako after that, tingnan natin. :bop:

Madali lang to. Make a list of your "desired" locations. Magbantay ka ng seat sales.

Pero dahil beach person ka, in no particular order:

    1 - Batangas - San Juan.
2 - Boracay, just for the sake of it
4 - Potipot at Anawangin sa Zambales. Kaya to ng day trip lang, I think. Di ko pa nagagawa. :bop:
5 - Pagudpod sa Ilocos Norte
    6 - Camiguin
    7 - Coron
    8 - El Nido
    9 - Puerto Princesa
10 - Puerto Galera (kung wala ka nang choice.)

Hiwalay nung 7, 8, at 9 kasi iba-ibang flights yan. :bop:

Prague is more "clustered" and has a small-town feel to it. Mas medieval ang dating niya. Paris is a bigger metropolitan city, and its lights come alive at night. Note that your entry point is likely either Amsterdam, Paris, or Frankfurt, so you have to also bear in mind na you have to travel to Prague. Then again, maayos ang public transport sa Europe.

Count me in! Certified Lakwatsero here!

    Been to:
London - most expensive city that i've been to
Paris, France - definitely the fashion capital of the world..Food's the best!
Zurich, Switzerland - laid-back city, very very clean..transportation system is top-notch!
Hong Kong - best place for me to shop (july is the great hong kong sale)
Singapore - mostly business trips..i don't like SG that much..alcoholic drinks and ciggies are too expensive

    Planing to go to:
US - visit my relatives and friends
Canada - to visit my best friend :)
    Brazil - to party party!
    Italy, Spain, Prague

    Sa local tourist destinations naman:
Boracay, Bohol, Cebu, Davao, Tuguegerao, Puerto Princesa, El Nido, Coron, Caramoan (Camsur) :)

    I want to go to:
Bellaroca, CDO, Camiguin, Camarines Norte, GenSan, Batanes, Pagudpod :)

My TOP 3 Best Beaches (Philippines)

    1. Caramoan CamSur.
    2. Pagudpod Ilocos
    3. Bakal CamNorte.

  • curiousercuriouser 8 Secs Left in Overtime PExer
Ay, onga no? Caramoan! :hiya: Kaso, it takes forever to get there.

Thailand/Cambodia/Myanmar/Vietnam. Paging @gs09, hindi ka pa nakapunta noh? I need to plan ahead. And it's hard planning when you have to bear in mind the schedules of the other people joining.

Going on tours is expensive, as much as possible backpacking hotels, but I do make sure that on the last few days dapat ok na hotel kasi tutal last day na naman siya.

I'm actually looking for someone who has done the IndoChina trail
Thailand/Cambodia/Myanmar/Vietnam. Paging @gs09, hindi ka pa nakapunta noh? I need to plan ahead. And it's hard planning when you have to bear in mind the schedules of the other people joining.

Going on tours is expensive, as much as possible backpacking hotels, but I do make sure that on the last few days dapat ok na hotel kasi tutal last day na naman siya.

Not sure if hostelworld.com has Indochina hostels. It should, I think.

Mukhang ambitious much ang Thailand/Cambodia/Myanmar/Vietnam. Especially kung ang habol mo ay experience.

Ang pinaka-common na alam ko na leg ay Vietnam (via HCM) tapos bus to Phnom Penh or Siem Reap (where the Angkor Wat is). Sa HCM, pwede mag-shop ng North Face hanggang maubusan ka ng milyones ng Vietnamese Dong mo (kung may pupunta dun, papabili ako!!!) or punta sa mga Vietcong tunnels, or Mui Ne beach. Coffee lovers should try civet coffee.

Gusto ko pa puntahan yung Hanoi, Halong Bay, at Hue.

Phnom Penh, parang mini Bangkok. May temple, may Grand Palace, may monuments. Not much to do there, I think, except kung matiyempuhan ang Water Festival. Of course, Angkor Wat ang highlight talaga. Kaso, sobrang daming tao usually. Hirap makahanap ng anggulo.

Bangkok/Thailand deserves a separate trip kung kulang sa oras. Phuket kung beach, maganda siya pero overrated. Ayutthaya kung gusto mo rin ng ruins. Sabi ng locals na kilala ko, go to Krabi instead of Pattaya.

    Myanmar requires a visa.

Kung gusto mo ng tunay na backpacking, try to get to Vang Vieng. Maraming backpackers dun.

Bantayan can possibly give Boracay sand a run for its money.

Pero Bantayan's water is exquisite. Walang lumot. Ugh.
