Pope rebukes Austrian cardinal who accused peer

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Benedict, still struggling to control the damage a sexual abuse scandal has done to the Catholic Church's image, Monday bluntly told his top advisers that they should not trade accusations in public.
The Vatican issued an unusual statement in which it effectively said the pope had censured Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn of Vienna, who last month publicly accused another cardinal of covering up sexual abuse.
"Regarding accusations against a cardinal, we remind everyone that, in the Church, only the pope has the authority to accuse a cardinal," said the statement, a rare case of the Church making its internal bickering public.
The statement -- issued after a meeting between the pope, Schoenborn, Sodano, and secretary of state Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone -- said Church officials had to "show due respect" for each other.
Last month Schoenborn criticized Italian Cardinal Angelo Sodano, who served from 1990 to 2006 as secretary of state, the Vatican's second-most important position.
Schoenborn, in a conversation with Austrian newspaper editors, accused Sodano of having blocked an investigation of into sexual abuse by former Austrian Cardinal Hans Hermann Groer.
Groer stepped down as archbishop of Vienna in 1995 after allegations that he had sexually abused young seminarians. He died in 2003 never admitting guilt or facing charges.
Schoenborn told the journalists that Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, who then headed the Vatican's doctrinal department and is now pope, wanted a full scale investigation of Groer in 1995 but was blocked by Sodano.

Vatican No. 2 says Belgian raids in abuse case are unprecedented even under communism

VATICAN CITY June 26, 2010 (AP)
The Vatican on Saturday stepped up its criticism of raids carried out by Belgian police investigating priestly sex abuse allegations, with the No. 2 official saying Saturday that the raids are unprecedented even under communism.
The raids this week targeted the home and office of a retired archbishop and also the graves of two prelates.
"It is an unheard-of and very grave fact," Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Vatican secretary of state, said Saturday. Speaking on the sidelines of a conference in Rome, Bertone lamented that bishops were held for nine hours without food or drink.
"There are no precedents, not even in Communist regimes," Bertone said, according to Italian news agencies.
The Vatican has summoned the Belgian ambassador to the Holy See to convey its anger. In a statement from Bertone's office on Friday, the Vatican said it was astonished and outraged at the violation of the tombs
Belgian police on Thursday raided the home and former office of former Archbishop Godfried Danneels, taking documents and his personal computer. Police and prosecutors did not say if Danneels was suspected of abuse himself or simply had records pertaining to allegations against another person. He was not questioned.
Investigators also opened the graves of archbishops in the St. Rombouts Cathedral in Mechlin, north of Brussels, looking for possibly incriminating documents, according to the office of the Brussels public prosecutor.
Avvenire, the newspaper of the Italian Bishops' Conference, lamented the "brutality" of the raid on the cathedral, claiming that "there is something that goes beyond the legitimate requirements of justice."
"Does such an assault not assume a symbolic meaning, is it not the sign of a desire to attack the Church in its entirety?" the newspaper said in a front-page editorial Saturday. It said the raid "smacks of a settling of the score" with the church by a secular country.

Pathetic would be an understatement to describe what you are doing. It seems this is becoming an obsession of yours to find any material at all including the kitchen sink to throw at the RCC. I dont understand kung yan ba talaga turo sa inyo ng mga ministro nyo na mambastos ng tao at relihiyon ng mga taong nasa labas nung simbahan nyo. O baka naman isa ka sa pinagparausan ng pari nung bata ka. Bakit ba ganun na lang katindi ang gali mo sa RCC? Ni wala ngang patutsada binibigay ang mismong simbahan namin sa simbahan nyo eh.
See, you spend day in and day out finding news sources that can be used to defamate its RCC, but when this same and exact strategy is done to your own church how do your reply? "Naku! balita lang yan! kwentong kutsero lang yan! Walang katibayan yan." Bakit did you yourself pause to examine and verify the truthfulness of your own sources?
You see the whole essence of you christianity is seen not trough your knowledge of the scriptures or the rituals you practice but trough your actions. Ang lakas lakas ng loob mo magpukol ng bato sa mga hindi mo kapareho ng pananampalatay as if immune from sin na kayong mga taga INC. Isa pa, ganyan ba ang turo ni jesus?
