There's a Red Spot on my Right Eye

I don't think I have sore eyes. There's just this red spot on my eye. It seems like blood to me. Anyone knows what's the best cure for this?

  • I think it's a small subconjunctival hemorrhage. This is akin to a small bruise under the thin conjunctiva of your eye. Of course, I'm basing this on your description and not on factual evidence.

You can put warm compresses on your affected eye to hasten the absorption of the blood. Otherwise, you don't really have to do anything much.

If the subconjuntival hemorrhage gets bigger or you experience other symptoms (blurring of vision, pain, discharge etc), do see an ophthalmologist.

    Thanks doc. :)

Um I have another question, for how long will the subconjuntival hemorrhage stay on my eye?
  • It depends on the size, actually. Generally, it should gradually resolve within the week, unless it's really big.
  • Eyedoc, what causes the small subconjunctival hemorrhage you just discussed? Is it potentially a signal that there's something wrong with the person's eyes?

Phew thank God it's just small. Thanks for the help eyedoc! :)

Um last question, do you have any idea how I got this subconjuntival hemorrhage on my eye? I can't remember how I got it. I just woke up one morning and saw it infront of the mirror.

Ooops... same question.. I apologize deeply to the mods... I didn't see. :)
  • Subconjunctival hemorrhage occurs when a blood vessel on the surface of the eye ruptures and bleeds under the conjunctiva (the thin membrane covering the eye). This blood becomes trapped and is seen as red because of the thinness of the membrane. This is actually similar to a bruise. This may be due to any of the following:

    - sudden coughing, sneezing, vomiting, heavy lifting, straining
    - trauma e.g. finger poking, rubbing of the eye
    - sudden increase in blood pressure
    - sudden change in temperature
    - spontaneous
  • Um, di naman ito serious problem sa mata eyedoc? Kasi po madalas yata ako may ganito coz I sneeze a lot (may perennial rhinitis kasi ako).

same question here... i hope it's not that dangerous having subconjunctival hemorrhage on my eyes....
  • The subconjunctival hemorrhage itself is not really dangerous. It's just trapped blood under the conjunctiva, like a bruise or "pasa".
  • Thanks eyedoc :)

    Thanks eyedoc! :)
  • You're very welcome. :)
  • i'm using spersadex for my right eye. one drop every 5 hours. nawala naman sya kaagad for 2 days of using it...
  • The disappearance does not have anything to do with the spersadex. What the spersadex does is to prevent infection and bring down any swelling.

And...I hope you didn't self medicate. Spersadex contains a steroid so it has to be used under an ophthalmologist's supervision.

masakit ba magkaganyan? masakit ba pag pinikit mo yung eyes mo? curious lang. thanks.
  • Nope. It's usually painless. Most patients don't even know they have it unless they look in a mirror or someone points it out to them.
