Doc Ira: Do I need to take vitamins if I don't eat vegetables that often? I only get to eat them thrice a week. As for the lack of fiber, can I just drink Nesvita instead of eating vegetables? I hate vegetables hehehe. Thanks.

There are two types of nutrients: the macronutrients like fiber, protein, carbohydrates, fat, etc., and the micronutrients, which are made up of vitamins and microelements like zinc, copper, calcium, etc., which you find in your multivitamin pills. You don't get fiber from those pills. If you feel that you eat a balanced diet and that you're getting the right amounts of vitamin anyway, you don't have to take multivitamins. However, if your diet is sorely lacking in the healthy food department, then supplementing your diet with a vitamin pill may be of help. For fiber, if you absolutely hate vegetables, other excellent sources of fiber include fresh fruits like apples, bananas, pineapples, and oranges, prunes, whole wheat bread, graham or rye crackers, and cereals (not corn flakes, ha? bran flakes, shredded wheat, Grape Nuts...stuff like that). You can also take Nesvita or Fibrosine as alternative sources of fiber.0
