  David James Archuleta is a Honduran American with dark brown hair and hazel eyes who was born on December 28, 1990 in Miami, Florida, USA. Critics and fans alike call him a singing prodigy due to his early development and talent in singing. He has a growing fan base due to his numerous appearances on television talent shows like American Idol and Star Search. David sings Pop, R&B and Soul music.

  David's dad is Jeff, and he was born and raised in Utah. His mom’s name is Lupe and she emigrated from Honduras from her hometown of San Pedro Sula, Cortes.
  Daddy Jeff Archuleta is a jazz trumpet player and his mom (both age 42) sings pop music in both English and Spanish.
  
  Jeff and Lupe's children consist of 3 girls and 2 boys with David being the 2nd oldest. Listed in order from eldest to youngest: Claudia (18 ), David (17), Daniel (14), Jazzy (11), and Amber (9).

  When David started on Star Search, he already started showing symptoms of bronchitis, which would later lead to his vocal paralysis when he reached the age of 13 and 14. One of his vocal chords was paralyzed and underdeveloped. The doctors said he can have surgery, but it was very risky. He didn’t want to take the risk because he wanted to sing. He was actually supposed to record a CD after Star Search because of his big success there, but wasn’t able to due to his vocal paralysis.

  David: (when asked what he would change about himself) I wouldn’t change anything. Even the minor things or problems are what influence who I am. David: It’s fun to see the support that you get from your school and all your family, and friends, and stuff. It’s really neat to see, you know, if they didn’t know, so you can’t tell them, so they’re all like freaking out when they even found out I auditioned, cause I didn’t even tell them, and they’re all just like, “Why didn’t you tell us?!”, you know they’re all mad at me. That’s okay, cause I think they won’t mind since they especially saw me on the show, when they were always like, “You should be on that show!”.
  
  David Archuleta: (about preparing for a performance) Before singing, I usually just kinda warm up, you know, just do a couple a verbal exercises, and say a prayer too. That’s really helpful.
  
  David: I’m half-Honduran, and got to go to Honduras a few years ago with my family and see my mom’s side of the family. I also sang at Carnaval there, a parade like Mardi Gras. It’s also where my most embarrassing moment was.
  
  David: (about American Idol) I’ve definitely feel like there are things that can happen this year. And the show just opened so many doors for me and even if it’s not winning American Idol, you know that’s what I’m hoping for, but even more just hoping that I will be able to make a career.
  
  David: (about American Idol) The greatest thing that could come out of this is to launch my singing career. You know, being able to sing and become successful has always been my dream.
  
  David: I’ve had friends from California and stuff, and when they come to Utah, there like, “It’s so freaky there, everyone’s so nice and they’ll say hi to you, even though they don’t know who you are,” and it’s like “Yeah, people there are friendly.” It’s really cool.
  
  David: The best thing you can do to set yourself apart is just be yourself. If you’re fake, you know people find out who you are later, it’s like “Well that’s not who we thought you were.” Being yourself is where you feel most comfortable and people get, you know, they feel that connection the best. That’s the best way to go. You always have to be yourself.
  
  David: (about song choices) It’s always fun to take risks too with song choices and stuff, I usually try to pick a song that suits me. I’ll think it through my head, its like, “Ok, well, does this song fit me?” Or you know, sometimes I’ll want to take a risk with the song, you know it’s a little different but I wanna show what I can do with it and you know, if I really like the song and it doesn’t match me, I’ll still maybe wanna try to make it my own and give it a shot.
  
  David: (about singing songs) If you don’t connect with a song, then I don’t see the point in singing it, but, you know, it at least has to be a fun song to sing and if it’s fun to get into it too and it’s a lot of fun to sing.
  
  David: You know, I like to smile a lot, like to hang out with my friends and you know, just like to do the normal things teenagers do, you know. I am normal, believe it or not, well I guess I have to second guess that. I guess I am pretty weird, but I am a teenager. I like to do the normal, every day things
  
  David: (about whether it’s intimdating being on American Idol) I haven’t really thought about the other singers, you know, I’ve been more like “Ok, what am I going to be doing” you know. ‘Cuz you have to think about how you’re going to present yourself and want people, wanna show your stuff and who you are. And if you really worry about the other people, its like, well, you know, takes away who you are, you know showing your stuff and being yourself.
  
  David (about American Idol): This is such a big opportunity for us, you know. American Idol has made tons of dreams come true and to be able to have this opportunity finally is just awesome, you know. We’re all just hoping that something will come out of this for our music and performing careers and to have this chance now, its really cool.
  
  
  David: You know, I’ve always doubted myself about my talent. I always thought everyone was kinda tone-deaf, and they’re just trying to be nice to me ‘coz I’m little.
  
  David: I was to sing at this charity event dinner thing and I lost my voice that night and in the middle of the song I just, I was struggling so bad and I just completely lost it and my mom came up and ran up and just grabbed the mike from me and finished the song for me and I was just like, “I want to die.” I was so glad my mom was there, if she wasn’t there I would have probably just ran away ‘cuz that was just, I just felt horrible about that.
  
  David: The grossest thing I’ve ever eaten was this one fish soup my grandma made and I thought it was just disgusting. I couldn’t keep it down first of all and it was just nasty and I don’t remember anything good about it. It might have been healthy, but it’s not worth that.
  
  David: The only job I ever had was over the summer when I was at Techiat Park Amphitheatre. That was a lot of fun just ‘cuz you got to control the sounds. I got to work with some of my good friends, which was a lot of fun.
  
  David: My family has helped me with personally my dream by just always being there all the time, supporting me like all the way and just being good sports about it and I really appreciate that.
  
  David: Something that surprises a lot of people is usually the music I listen to just because it’s so diverse and it would be like Hispanic music from my mom, you know I grew up listening to Hispanic music on my mom’s side and then my dad listened to Jazz music and so I grew up with that and I just love Gospel music and you know, mostly I listen to Pop, and like Pop-Rock, but soulful music ‘cuz it’s just one of my favorites as well.
  
  David: I’m not really sure which American Idol contestant I would be compared to. I really liked how Elliott Yamin had a more soulful vibe to him and I can remember you know, like he’d sing… He sang I Don’t Wanna Be by Gavin DeGraw and he just gave a lot of soul into that, I just thought that was really cool. And that’s the kind of stuff I’d like to do you know. You know the pop music with a little soul into it, kinda’ like John Mayer, you know he’s awesome.
  
  David: One of my favorite performers is Michael Jackson just because you know, he’s like the king of performing, he’s amazing to watch and he has amazing songs, he’s awesome.
  
  David: I wanna be the next American Idol because I just been loving music for so long. It’s been-music’s pretty much my life and just the power that’s in music, it can do so much like it can change… It can change how I feel and just how everyone I’m singing to feels and how everyone just appreciates the music and stuff and uhmmm… being able to do that as a career is just a dream of mine and American Idol is the best opportunity for that to happen.
  
  David: If I don’t become the next American Idol, I’m going to keep on singing ‘cuz you know, that’s why I’m here, I love to do it and I still wanna finish school ‘cuz you know, that’s pretty dang important, especially if this music stuff doesn’t work out.
  
  David: When I found out that I made it to the top 24 it was just one of the best feelings I had ever had. It was like I was hired or something. It was just awesome because I just always wanted to be able to make it this far in the competition and now that I finally am able to, it’s just an awesome feeling.
  
  David: (when asked what other talents he has): I’ve taken a little piano and have written a few songs.
  
  David: (when asked when he started to sing): Around the age of 7, and really started performing in front of people at 10.

  David Archuleta Signs to 19 Recordings/Jive Records

  Archuleta Gears Up For American Idol Tour
  
  
  
  NEW YORK, June 5 /PRNewswire/ -- It was announced this date that American Idol sensation David Archuleta has signed to 19 Recordings/Jive Records. Archuleta is currently gearing up for the upcoming American Idol tour which kicks off on July 1st in Glendale, AZ. The 17-year old is expected to release his debut album later this year.
  
  "Signing a record contract with 19 Recordings/Jive Records is truly a dream come true," states Archuleta. "Being a fan of American Idol since season one and admiring the alumni, I am honored and humbled to be a part of that group. I'm really excited to start working on everything."
  
  David Archuleta, the runner-up on the current season of "American Idol," has three songs entering the Hot 100 this week, starting with his stunning remake of John Lennon's "Imagine" at No. 36, along with his highly-praised rendition of "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me," and his finale song, "In This Moment."
  
  Simon Fuller, creator of the popular TV series and chief executive and founder of 19 Entertainment Label Group, states, "It was fascinating to watch David's journey through Idol. He is a genuine pop star, and is a gifted singer who instantly won over a huge audience when he first appeared on the show. Since then, he has dealt with the pressure and the high level of expectation with real fortitude; he's given us some of the best performances of the season.   David Archuleta is from Murray, Utah, a town outside Salt Lake City. He recently came to national attention and captured the hearts and imagination of a nation with several show-stopping performances on "American Idol."

  How the Billboard charts work:
  
  
  The goal, of course, is to rocket David Archuleta’s “Crush” to the #1 position on the Billboard charts and on iTunes charts as well. Billboard uses a system called Nielsen Soundscan to track sales (yes, including digital sales made at website such as iTunes); Billboard also uses Broadcast Data Systems to track radio airplay. In fact, a song can chart on Billboard before it is commercially released, based on airplay alone. So requesting that “Crush” be added to playlists and played on radio stations is pretty dang important, even before it’s released as a single. (See #3 below.)
  
  
  So how do we make “Crush” a #1 hit? Read the list!
  
  
  1. Buy his single! (Starting September 2nd? That’s our best guess.) DON’T DOWNLOAD ILLEGALLY! DON’T BE SATISFIED WITH AN MP3 RIPPED FROM THE Z100 BROADCAST THIS FRIDAY. Those actions will only hurt David’s career. You will be able to purchase his single digitally from iTunes, Amazon, Wal-mart, Rhapsody, and Napster, as well as other outlets. If you are interested in a physical CD single (not many of those around any more), check your local stores to see if it is available in that format. Buying digital is just fine for singles. Make sure to leave feedback wherever you buy!
  
  
  2. Gifting! There is a Gifting Campaign for David Archuleta’s upcoming single and album. The intent of this campaign is to make sure all of David’s fans receive the single and the album legally so that David will benefit from royalties as well as sales figures. Free downloads do not count towards his commercial success, and we all want him to do well, right?! We need donors and recipients for this campaign. For more information on this campaign.
  
  
  3. Call radio stations to request his single be played. There is an art to this. According to this thread on IDF, contacting the Program Director before the single comes out and requesting the song to be added to the playlist is a good first step! (The program directors create the playlists, not the DJs). Then call the DJs and request the song to be played, but DON’T call over and over again! One call or email per day is enough. You don’t want to annoy them, or there may be backlash reminiscent of the Clay Aiken days, when fans were so annoying that DJs started a movement to NOT play Clay’s music. Be nice; not nasty and obsessive, or you may hurt the cause. You don’t want David to be known as the artist with crazy, obnoxious fans. Don’t call or email radio stations that are not in your listening area, unless they have live streaming audio online. And finally, access Radio & Records to track how much his song is getting played: the more it gets played, the more it moves up the charts. A few years ago, Elliot Yamin’s fans created a wonderful thread discussing how to call radio stations (and how to locate radio stations); it’s definitely worth a look: click here. Remember that his single may be eligible to be added to radio playlists as soon as next Monday, so after it premieres Friday, start calling your radio station program manager and ask him/her to add the song as soon as they can!
  
  4. Contact MTV and VH1 to request the video! I believe I just heard the liquidy sound of thousands of fangirls melting into puddles on the floor: yes, there will most likely be a VIDEO! Okay, take a deep breath…go to MTV’s TRL and VH1’s Top 20 Video Countdown to vote for David’s video as soon as it is available.
  
  
  5. Visit David Archuleta’s MySpace and leave a comment about how much you love his new song! Remember, his MySpace is administered by his label, so your feedback is important. You must be added as a friend to leave a comment. He also has a Facebook account now! Join there if you wish! And his official website is being launched as we speak, so choose your website and make yourself heard!
  
  
  6. View his official video on YouTube and leave a comment.Artists’ videos always end up on YouTube; find whatever version has the most views and leave a positive comment.
  7. Word of mouth: tell everyone you know about David’s new song! Play it in public! Encourage people to buy it. Gift it.
  
  
  8. Write letters to TV shows and magazines requesting that David be interviewed and perform his new song: Ellen, Oprah, The Today Show, Good Morning America, Rolling Stone, People Magazine, and the list goes on and on!

  Hey, it's David! I've been listening to your questions...and they're pretty awesome. I've picked a couple of them here to answer, and the first one is from Melissa. And she's from Connecticut. And she asked if I was writing any of my own songs, and Melissa, I actually have been! *heh,heh* I've written a few before in the past, and lately, for this first album project I've been writing a lot more than I ever have been and it's been a lot of fun. And actually this past week, I've been doing a lot of writing sessions with other people --other AMAAAZING songwriters and it's been SOO cool to be working with all these different people, especially with writing because...you know, it's something I've always wanted to, um, learn how to, you know, EXPAND *heh* in that area of music...and also, you know, working with people who've written some of my favorite songs, even, it's just soooo crazy, it's like "I can't believe I'm, writing a song with you" *heh* But... it's been so much fun...I...there's just been been........a BIIIG jump from even a few weeks ago with my songwriting...just, such...I've, like, learned so much and increased so much in confidence and I'm just looking forward to writing even more, so *hehe* thaaat's...the answer for that question...AAAND...that's it for now...   This afternoon at work, i was having a bad day as the weather was so hot that i was finding it difficult to concentrate. I was really burning up and was so drowsy. My brains were near shutdown when i decided to distract myself by putting on the radio; 96.9 coolFM Abuja, Nigeria, my Fav station here in Abuja, Nigeria.They were playing Usher’s song and i was like, no way not usher on a hot day. Just when the radio presenter started to cue the next song she said; I quote “This song is by This guy who has the voice that will make you melt like ice on this hot afternoon”. I was like who can be better than Archie. Just as i was about to switch of the radio, GUESS WHAT!!!!!!!!!!! She announced David Archuleta and CRUSH was on!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It sure melted all the heat and drowsy feelings away and i was back to normal and ready to get on with my work. Crush on my fav radio station made my day.   David Archuleta is a contestant on American Idol. He has been called “The Soul man from Utah,” the “Soul Midget King,” “Mini Motown Monster” and a singing prodigy. David’s natural “soulful” voice has captivated America through his performances on Jenny Jones and most recently as the junior singer grand prize winner of Star Search 2. David Archuleta was born in Miami, Florida on December 28th 1990 and spent the first six years of his life in various cities in florida. In February of 1997, David and his family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where he lives with his parents, his brother and 3 sisters and 2 cats. He comes from a musical family where his mother sings both Spanish and English pop music, and his dad is a jazz trumpet player. David began singing at the age of 6 when he memorized several songs from the Les Miserables 10th anniversary concert, complete with English and Cockney accents. When he was 10 he participated in the Utah Talent Competition and although VERY reluctant to go perform in public, and feeling extremely nervous, he went onstage and sang “I Will Always Love You” and received a standing ovation. He has since been featured on Janny Jones, and the last several months have included performing 3 times on Star Search, being seen on CBS’ The Early Show. He is now in negotiations to record some new material and will be releasing a new CD soon.

  A-maizing tribute: Cornfield maze to Immortalize Archuleta
  
  "American Idol" star David Archuleta is bigger now than ever before — literally.
  
  Covering 12 acres, Archuleta's likeness, along with the phrase "Archuleta 4 President," is cut into the cornfield at the 2008 Cornbelly's Corn Maze and Pumpkin Fest located at Thanksgiving Point.
  
  During an election year, corn maze creator and The MAiZE founder, Brett Herbst, said his focus was initially turned to presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama.
  
  "We really thought of Obama and McCain at first, but everyone we talked to was sick of the candidates," Herbst said. "Then we said, 'Let's do Archuleta."'
  
  Herbst said they had to get permission from Archuleta's agent before going forward with the maze. Archuleta garnered more than 40 million votes while competing on "American Idol" earlier this year. Herbst said the corn maze was a good way to honor the Utah native's accomplishment. Maze visitors will have a chance to win an autographed copy of Archuleta's new self-titled album when it's released Nov. 11.
  
  While he wasn't sure if Archuleta would be able to make it to the maze because of his schedule, Herbst said the young star hasn't ruled out a visit — at least he hasn't said no. In a statement from California, where he is working on his new album, Archuleta said he's seen a lot of things and had a lot of experiences because of "American Idol."
  
  "It's great to have another special memory to add from my home state of Utah," he said.
  
  Herbst said nearly 63,000 people visited his corn maze at Thanksgiving Point last year. A Brigham Young University graduate originally from Salmon, Idaho, Herbst grew up on a ranch and created his first corn maze in 1996. Since then he's designed more than 1,200 mazes in five countries. The largest company of its kind, The MAiZE is working with more than 200 different corn maze locations just this season.
  
  "Some people thought it was just a fad," Herbst said. "But it's a tradition now and it's here to stay."
  
  The corn maze opens Friday and will run through Nov. 1 from 4 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. In addition to the corn maze, Cornbelly's offers 20 other attractions from hay rides to pumpkin picking.
