NFL 2001 Week 2

A week after cancelling its games due to the recent terrorist attacks, the NFL resumed action in what was supposed to be its Week 3. In a dazzling display of powerhouse offense and precision passing, Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts bodyslammed the Buffalo Bills, 42-26. The Miami Dolphins completed an exciting last-second drive, culminating in a Jay Fiedler dive into the endzone for a tremendous 18-15 win over the Oakland Raiders. The New York Jets let out a lot of their frustrations for their city, rallying behind their defense for a 10-3 victory over the New England Patriots. The other New York team, the Giants, were equally emotional in a 13-3 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

The St. Louis Rams entered San Francisco and re-established their mastery over the 49ers with a 30-26 triumph. The Atlanta Falcons rode the wave of a Jamal Anderson 94-yd TD catch for a 24-16 win that brought the Carolina Panthers back down to earth. The Cincinnati Bengals did the unthinkable, ending the Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens' 12-game winning streak with a 21-10 upset.:whatthe: Another upset occurred when the Tennessee Titans were upended by the Jacksonville Jaguars 13-6. Still another upset took place in Chicago's Soldier Field as back-up QB Jim Miller took over the Bears' reins, throwing two fourth quarter TD passes in a shocking 17-10 win over the Minnesota Vikings.:blow:

Detroit QB Ty Detmer got into the Lions' starting line-up but eventually threw 7 interceptions:eek: which the Cleveland Browns took advantage of for a 24-14 shellacking. Cowboy RB Emmitt Smith ran past Barry Sanders' all-time rushing yardage gain to emerge in second place all-time behind the great Walter Payton, but Dallas still lost to the San Diego Chargers, 32-21. The Philadelphia Eagles rediscovered their defense and the Donovan McNabb-Jamie Thrash combo was too much for the seattle Seahawks to handle as shwon by the Eagles' 27-3 win. The denver Broncos may have lost Ed McCaffrey for the year and Terrell Davis for a month, but with Brian Griese as the QB, everything still clicked for them as they pounded a hapless Arizona Cardinals team, 38-17.

newly acquired james thrash from washington only had 3 tds so far in his career but had 2 td catches from mcnabb in this week's game against seattle.. including a 64-yarder which he juggled but got control of it... the 64yder was also donovan mcnabb's carrer long td pass.
david akers added 2 field goals, and mcnabb added a td run of his own to make it 27-3. The eagles lost duce staley again to a shoulder injury... haay.. parati na lang...

  • On Monday Night Football, Brett Favre seems like Superman all over again, and the rest of the NFL must be shaking in their boots. Favre's Green Bay Packers completely embarassed the Washington Redskins 37-0, keeping Daniel Snyder's overpaid bunch of underachievers winless.

I've been watching football, but it doesn't hold the same excitement it used to hold for me. Ever since the World Trade Center attack, everything else just seems so insignificant.
But I'll still watch football because it's a great distraction from all the upheaval that's going on in the world these days.
