Baz Luhrmann brings the King of Rock 'n Roll back to life in his newest biopic Elvis.

Told from the point of view of Elvis Presley's dastardly manager Col. Tom Parker, Elvis retells the rise and fall of the world's bestselling solo recording artist. It takes viewers through a pensive glimpse of Elvis' childhood, early years as a musician, and his eventual
successes and defeats in life (both personal and professional). It pushes the audience to the edge of their seats, leaving anyone watching it to pant and wanting to know what happens next (even if some are already familiar with how the story will go).

And it's not by accident that anyone watching this film gets a sort of electrified feeling. Luhrmann did it by using visually stunning shots, employing superb mixes of vibrant music and sounds, and through a heavy reliance on the stellar portrayal made by Austin Butler. All these elements contributed to the movie's success in retelling such an epic yet tragic story.

But not everything about Elvis is good. If there's one thing that's off, it's Tom Hanks' performance as Colonel Parker. There's just something about how he played his character that confuses how one will feel, like will you hate him or will you pity him. In this regard, Hanks' Parker is completely devoured by Butler's Presley, when the ideal scenario would be for Hanks supporting Butler's performance. Sadly, Hanks couldn't match the vigor and dedication Butler has shown throughout the film.

Elvis Presley has truly come back to life in Baz Luhrmann's Elvis. Almost everything about the movie is perfection, from the choice of shots and music up to the stellar cast of characters. Without a doubt, Elvis is one of the best films of 2022.
