Will the Philippines take their successful hosting of the 2019 SEA Games to bid for the 2030 Asian Games? Execs from the Olympic Council of Asia think we should.
OCA Vice President Wei Jizhong of China suggested in a press conference that the Philippines should consider bidding for “bigger events” in the future, given the massive success of the 30th SEA Games.
Jizhong also acknowledged the small number of logistical setbacks which were heavily reported in the media in the early days of the hosting, calling them normal glitches that other host nations have also experienced.
The Philippines ‘ hosting of the 30th SEA Games is its 4th time in the history of the Games to fulfill the role.
The Games officially began on November 30 with a spectacular Opening Ceremony held in the Philippine Arena. In the lead-up to the Games, the Philippines constructed and renovated a number of sporting venues to accommodate the biennial sporting event. This heavy focus on sports infrastructure is the first in a few generations – the last stadium was built around 100 years ago. Thankfully, the new facilities are here to stay for generations to come and they have been certified for sporting events like the Asian Games, even the Olympics. 2030 isn’t so far and our sports dreams can definitely achieve it.
