Male-to-Male Sex can now spread Dengue!

TrollmeisterTrollmeister B?nned for trolling PEX PEx Veteran ⭐⭐

Spanish health authorities confirmed Friday a case of a man spreading dengue through sex, a world first for a virus which until recently was thought to be transmitted only by mosquitos.

The case concerns a 41-year-old man from Madrid who contracted dengue after having sex with his male partner who picked up the virus from a mosquito bite during a trip to Cuba, said Susana Jimenez of the Madrid region’s public health department.

His dengue infection was confirmed in September and it puzzled doctors because he had not travelled to a country where the disease, which causes severe flu-like symptoms such as high fever and body aches, is common, she added.

“His partner presented the same symptoms as him but lighter around ten days earlier, and he had previously visited Cuba and the Dominican Republic,” Jimenez said.

“An analysis of their sperm was carried out and it revealed that not only did they have dengue but that it was exactly the same virus which circulates in Cuba.”

A “likely’ case of sexual transmission of dengue between a man and a woman was the subject of a recent scientific article in South Corea, Jimenez said.

In an e-mail sent to AFP, the Stockholm-based European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), which monitors health and disease in Europe, said this was “to our knowledge, the first sexual transmission of the dengue virus among men who have sex with men.”

According to the World Health Organization’s website, dengue is transmitted mainly by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, which thrives in densely-populated tropical climates and breeds in stagnant pools of water.

It is most serious — and deadly — in children, especially young girls though scientists don’t know why.

Dengue is most commonly caught by people travelling to hotter climates such as southeast Asia, Africa, Australia, the Caribbean and South and Central America.

    Oh am I being funny?

I feel pity for you kasi at least ang pamangkin kong 10 y.o alam niya how dengue is being transmitted and he also knows that a regular heterosexual couple may engage in an anal sex without malice.

Maybe you need to go back to a primary school? That is if you are humble enough to admit being a fool.

The title stands! male to male sex is CONFIRMED to transmit dengue!
It is the man to woman sex that is likely to transmit sex which is just a subject of recent scientific article in South Corea....

Konting reading comprehension naman any kailsngan......

^ So a SINGLE case will change everything we know how dengue is being transmitted?

There is a reason it's quote as "likely" kasi kahit confirmed pa ang case na iyan, it should appear in greater numbers and be confirmed consistently until it reaches 100% certainty just like what the editorialized title implies.

You guys are obviously just homophobes trying to spread your oblivious opinions in this medical issue.

There's such thing as immune system. Those with good ones can protect themselves from germs, microbes or virus specially if properly vaccinated or stay healthy.
Women have better immune system that men don't have to protect them and their babies during pregnancy.
That's why there is more risk for male to male sex transmission for disease like dengue specially if one has not had dengue before or been vaccinated. Male engaging in risky  behavior are more likely prone to getting infected due to weakened immune system. If you are unhealthy you are easy prey to microbes, germs, virus, etc.
Why else most medical staff wear masks and gloves to avoid getting infected or contaminate equipment..

FYI .... WHO survey show women are more susceptible to dengue than men.

but only a HOMO will have sex even though they already feel sick.

Generally speaking, women have stronger immune system responses than men. The good news for women is that this “show no mercy” response means they are less prone to bacterial, viral, fungal and other types of infection than the dudes are. The flip side, however, is that women’s immune systems are more likely to overreact.

Women’s Immune Systems Are Stronger Than Men’s

    By Gemma Tarlach | December 23, 2013 2:00 pm

a new study, researchers found that women’s immune systems responded more strongly than men’s to flu vaccine. Old and young women alike produced both more antibodies and a higher inflammatory cytokine count — one sign of potential immunological overreaction — than male participants.

    His vs. Hers Immune System

While the gender gap in immune reactions has long been known, the mechanism behind it has remained a mystery. But in this study, the scientists identified a handful of genes, apparently regulated by testosterone, that they think are a key part of the response mechanism. The higher the testosterone levels of a participant, the lower the immunological reaction to vaccination.

The flip side, however, is that women’s immune systems are more likely to overreact.

When an immune system is overstimulated, it can attack healthy tissue, which is what happens with autoimmune diseases such as lupus. It can also cause potentially fatal post-infection complications, such as a cytokine storm after getting the flu, in which an overproduction of immune cells overwhelm the body’s normal functions.

    It’s in the Genes

Researchers in the current study analyzed immune response to a seasonal flu vaccine in 37 men and 54 women aged 20 to 89. From blood samples they were able to isolate a cluster of genes involved in fat metabolism that were also associated with the amount of antibodies and cytokines produced. The genes appear to be regulated by testosterone, and researchers found the male participants with the highest levels of the hormone had the lowest antibody response.

Previous research has focused on how genes located on the sex chromosomes might affect the immune response to vaccination. But by exploring the role of testosterone, today’s findings, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, could be a new avenue for understanding — and eventually treating —immunological overreactions. The results also point to possible reasons for women having a higher rate of autoimmune disease
