MMDA eyes malls sale ban, class suspension for SEA Games 08:22 AM
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said Friday it recommended a ban on mall sales and the suspension of classes in some Metro Manila areas to prevent heavy traffic during this month's Southeast Asian Games.
"Wala po sanang mall sales sa EDSA and all other SEA Games routes, billeting hotels man po ito o sports venues. Pangalawa, nag-recommend po ang MMDA ng class holiday from Dec. 2 to 6 sa 7 paaralan," said MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago.
(We hope there will be no mall sales in EDSA and all other SEA Games routes covering billeting hotels or sports venues. The MMDA also recommended a class holiday from Dec. 2 to 6 in seven schools.)
Pialago declined to name the 7 schools located near Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila, pending approval from Malacañang.
Running from November 30 until December 11, the 30th edition of the biennial SEAG will mark the fourth time the Philippines will host the regional event. Competition venues will involve 23 Luzon cities in Metro Manila, and Pampanga and Zambales provinces.
Events related to the SEA Games including a sendoff of athletes, opening ceremony rehearsal and elimination rounds will be held starting next week, said Pialago.
