BLACK EYED PEAS TO PERFORM “BAD BOYS FOR LIFE”

SONG “RITMO” AT SEA GAMES CLOSING CEREMONY IN PH DEC. 11

Pacing for the most-anticipated comeback in recent memory, Black Eyed Peas resurface with a smash on par with their legendary run of hits…

The six-time GRAMMY® Award-winning, genre-bending pioneers x history-making reggaeton superstar J Balvin—who remains one of the hottest acts in the globe today and possibly the biggest Latin star of the millennium—share a new collaborative single entitled “RITMO (Bad Boys For Life)” today. This marks the group’s first release under their newly minted deal with Epic Records. Uniting these two titans, this is undoubtedly the biggest song of 2019, to say the least.

The song heralds the arrival of the anxiously awaited Bad Boys For Life Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Album. It lands in stores and at all digital retailers on January 10. Meanwhile, the mega-anticipated Bad Boys For Life—starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence–opens in Philippine theaters on January 2020. It stands out as the third installment of the classic Bad Boys franchise, one of the most successful action series of all-time.

“RITMO (Bad Boys For Life)” similarly captures the high-octane action the franchise remains known for. Breaking boundaries, it fuses Black Eyed Peas’ inimitable hybrid of hip-hop and pop with Balvin’s incendiary and infectious take on reggaeton. Fittingly, the word “Ritmo” translates to “Rhythm” in English. The song impacts Top 40, Latin, and Rhythm Crossover on Monday November 4. Meanwhile, Colin Tilley [Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna] helmed the accompanying music video intercut with explosive sequences from the movie.

After two decades signed to Jimmy Iovine’s Interscope Records, Black Eyed Peas find a home with Sylvia Rhone at Epic Records. They join an iconic roster and align with the culture’s most trusted label.

Black Eyed Peas co-founder will.i.am said, “I wanted to reimagine ‘The Rhythm of the Night’ by Corona and give it a minimal, futurist, afro-fused reggaeton vibe. The final song and video feel like the classic next level futurism that the Black Eyed Peas are all about.”

Last week, Black Eyed Peas jetted to Brazil to co-Headline RockInRio. Meanwhile, they appeared on Luciano Hucks’ show the day after. Next up, they fly to Australia & New Zealand for the next leg of their tour, and then wrap up on stage at closing ceremony of the SEA Games in the Philippines on December 11 for a performance of “RITMO (Bad Boys For Life).”

“BAD BOYS FOR LIFE” BRINGS BACK BADDEST CRIME-FIGHTING DUO

The first two Bad Boys films introduced Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, who each had previously headlined a hit television series, to motion picture action-comedy fans. Now, everybody’s favorite crime-fighting duo is back on their beat – and they’re as fun, dangerous, and unpredictable as ever.

In Columbia Pictures’ new action-thriller Bad Boys for Life, Smith and Lawrence return in two of their signature roles, Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett. In the film, just as Marcus is trying to step back and spend more time in his family, a dangerous threat will emerge to endangers Mike’s life – pulling Marcus back in… after all, Mike is family too, and he’s not going to let Mike go on that mission alone.

For producer Jerry Bruckheimer, revisiting these iconic characters and their world was something he and his team had long been planning. So, he’s especially pleased that audiences will have the opportunity to again spend some time with Mike and Marcus – and their bad boy ways. “The film is action-packed with incredible stunts, great new characters, and surprising revelations,” he points out. “But even if you haven’t seen the previous Bad Boys films, you’ll jump right into this one and fall in love with these characters and the ride they take you on.”

Indeed, the filmmakers conceived Bad Boys for Life as an opportunity to delve into what it means to be a Bad Boy after all these years. “What happens when Bad Boys become men?” asks producer Doug Belgrad. “Do they lose that maverick quality and become soft? Or do they mature?

“Of course, Mike and Marcus are still badasses,” Belgrad concludes. “They are always going to do whatever it takes to get the job done. While they may not be quite as fast as they once were, they’re still damn good at their jobs. They’re resourceful and when push comes to shove, they have the skills to get it done.”

Bad Boys for Life also stars Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton, Paola Nunez, Kate Del Castillo, Nicky Jam, and Joe Pantoliano.

Moroccan-born Belgian filmmakers Adil & Bilall (Black, Gangsta, FX’s Snowfall) direct from a screenplay by Chris Bremner and Peter Craig and Joe Carnahan and a story by Peter Craig and Joe Carnahan. The producers are Jerry Bruckheimer, Will Smith, and Doug Belgrad, with Chad Oman, Barry Waldman, Mike Stenson, and James Lassiter serving as executive producers.

NEW LATINO ACTOR LANDS VILLAIN ROLE IN “BAD BOYS FOR LIFE”

British born Latino actor Jacob Scipio (upcoming Without Remorse) portrays the main villain in Columbia Pictures’ new action thriller Bad Boys for Life, opposite Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.

    \

In the film, Smith and Lawrence’s characters Mike and Marcus, certainly have their work cut out for them. Their prey – and vice versa – is a beautiful criminal overlord from Mike’s past, Isabel, along with her strong-willed and lethal son.

While Isabel was imprisoned, she gave birth to Armando – now a fully-grown assassin (Scipio). Upon her release, she works with Armando to make sure there’s no escape for those who wronged her, turning Armando into a spiteful weapon.

“Armando is a warrior who’s trained his entire life in martial arts and high-tech weaponry,” says producer Chad Oman. “He’s physically fit and essentially fearless. So, in every confrontation with Mike and Marcus, the two guys are overmatched. It’s going to take every bit of their resourcefulness, wisdom, and physical prowess to deal with him.”

“But Armando also has a code,” adds Scipio. “And that code is closely tied to his mother’s. They’re incredibly close. He was raised in prison – it was just the two of them in a cell until he was six years old. So, their bond is incredibly powerful. Then he was torn away from her and taken into the care of the cartel. So, Armando has been bred and raised on hate. His mom loves him, there’s no doubt about that, but it’s a tainted love.”

Ultimately, Armando and Mike go mano-a-mano in a fight to the…well…that goes in unexpected directions. “They really get into it,” says Scipio, in a grand understatement. “It was a huge thrill for me to share scenes with Will, who’s an icon.”

According to producer Doug Belgrad, Scipio was a perfect match for the character. “Jacob’s physicality, athleticism and acting chops helped him bring a combination of intensity, depth and empathy to his scenes. Armando is a stone-cold killer, but you want to know what’s going on in his soul.”

WILL SMITH, MARTIN LAWRENCE BACK FOR ONE LAST RIDE IN “BAD BOYS FOR LIFE”

25 years after Bad Boys, 17 years after Bad Boys II, Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) are back for one last ride in Columbia Pictures’ new action thriller Bad Boys for Life (in Philippine cinemas January 22).

For producer Jerry Bruckheimer, there’s one simple reason why the time is right for Will Smith and Martin Lawrence to return to their signature roles.  “It’s always the right time for good movies, fun movies, entertaining movies, like this one is,” says Bruckheimer. “People love good entertainment. We have these two wonderful actors coming together with their humor and their edge. It’s very exciting for an audience and for me to make a movie like this.”

And Bruckheimer says that though so many years have passed, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have picked up right where Lowrey and Burnett left off.  “It’s the same fun as it was twenty years ago,” he says. “They have a good time. Will is the friendliest person in the world, and Martin is just funny – anytime you cut to Martin, you’re gonna get a laugh. You want to be in the presence of these two guys. That’s what it’s all about.”

The key to the Bad Boys saga is the energy and chemistry between its stars. The relationship between Will Smith and Martin Lawrence is so powerful and entertaining that today it seems obvious to pair them.

The fun of the movie in 1995, is the same fun in 2020: the odd-couple pairing of Lowrey and Burnett. “They’re entirely different,” Bruckheimer says. “One is a bachelor and wealthy. The other is a middle-class family man, a straight-ahead guy who tries to do things the right way.”  But while Smith and Lawrence are still the bad boy cops you know and love, the new film picks up the dynamic duo after many years have passed, so the guys have certainly evolved – well, at least Marcus has. “Mike is the same guy he’s always been – he loves catching the bad guys,” Bruckheimer continues, “but Marcus is starting to think it’s time to retire. Mike has slowed down a little, but doesn’t want to accept it, while Marcus realizes he’s slowed down and tries to make Mike appreciate that.”

“We wanted to immediately embrace the fact that time has gone by for Mike and Marcus, as it does for everyone,” says Smith. “The opening sequence with Marcus becoming a grandfather is new territory that launches these characters’ stories into another chapter.”

Smith’s on-screen partner adds that he couldn’t wait to “get back with Will to do another Bad Boys movie. Audiences wanted to see us together again because the two characters work so well together. But as Marcus says in the film, ‘This ain’t the same old song. This here’s the remix.’”

ADIL & BILLAL: TWO HIP GUYS DIRECT “BAD BOYS FOR LIFE”

To helm Columbia Pictures’ new action adventure Bad Boys for Life, producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman brought aboard two young filmmakers, Moroccan-born Belgian directors Adil & Bilall (Black, Gangsta, FX’s Snowfall) who themselves personify the Bad Boys vibe.

Oman recalls how he and Bruckheimer became aware of the talented partners. “About four years ago, we screened a movie called Black, an action-crime drama about gang warfare in Brussels, which Adil and Bilall had directed, and we loved it. The film had so much edge, texture and beauty. It’s very emotional but also intense. We loved their work on it, and always kept them in mind for a new Bad Boys film.”

It was a match made in heaven, as both directors cite Bad Boys as being influential in their careers. “We grew up with those movies,” states Adil, with Billal adding, “We’re the luckiest fanboys ever because the Bad Boys pictures are iconic – and now we’ve directed one.”

Will Smith says the two filmmakers were indeed a perfect fit for the world of Bad Boys: “Adil and Bilall’s energy is just so right, and they’re coming at the film with a different angle. They have so much love for this franchise and the characters, and it was great to work with them.”

An unexpected bonus for the two filmmakers was the opportunity to not only meet but direct one of their idols, filmmaker Michael Bay, who helmed the first two Bad Boys pictures, as well other blockbusters, such as Armageddon and the Transformers films, and has a cameo in this film.

Even with their love for what Bay did in the earlier films, Adil & Billal were eager to change things up. They take the franchise in a new direction, while keeping all the action and the electric Lowery/Burnett dynamic that have thrilled and entertained audiences since the arrival of the first film in 1999. “There’s a ton of action in this movie, and things get crazy, so all the fans of the first two films have a lot to look forward to,” points out Adil.

“To see Will Smith and Martin Lawrence together on screen was like magic,” concludes Billal.

In Bad Boys for Life, Smith and Lawrence return in two of their signature roles, Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett. In the film, just as Marcus is trying to step back and spend more time in his family, a dangerous threat will emerge to endangers Mike’s life – pulling Marcus back in… after all, Mike is family too, and he’s not going to let Mike go on that mission alone.

Bad Boys for Life also stars Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton, Paola Nunez, Kate Del Castillo, Nicky Jam, and Joe Pantoliano.
