Chet Cuneta was beaten by mayor-elect Emi Calixto-Rubiano, na outgoing Congresswoman.

Hindi nga umubra ang pag-e-emote ni Sharon which she had videotaped shortly after Chet and his party’s miting de avance. Sa nasabing video, inamin ni Sharon that she was upset, angry even, dahil bumaklas kay Chet ang running mate nito na aniya’y nabili raw ng kalaban.

Kinailangan naming i-validate ang paratang ni Sharon, only to be told that there was no money involved in the withdrawal of her brother’s running mate.

Inetsapuwera raw ni Chet ang taong ‘yon, deliberately not keeping the latter informed tungkol sa mga strategic plans ng partido on the suspicion na nag-switch ito ng loyalty.

Anyway, game over na. Ang minimithing pangarap ni Chet na susundan niya ang yapak ng kanyang ama who had served as Pasay City mayor for the longest time ay nasilat like a burst bubble.

One term only? Sounds familiar. Narinig na namin ‘yan mula sa bibig ng talunan ding mayoral candidate sa Maynila na si Erap Estrada, who had better spend the rest of his life enjoying what’s left.

Ang yawning gap o agwat ng boto ni Chet sa nanalong mayor, the first woman mayor in the history of Pasay, ay mahirap nang iapela on the grounds of pandaraya.

Truth be told, Chet wasn’t a formidable opponent, sana kung neck-and-neck ang naging labanan. Maaga pa lang, the residents knew who’d win and who’d later throw in the towel.

“Saka masyadong kumpiyansa si Chet who was backed up by the President. Hayun, hayahay lang siya for the most part of the campaign period,” sey ng maraming taga-Pasay. And internally pala, Chet didn’t take good care of her allies na isa-isang nangawala.

But as we’ve written, this could yet be a prelude to the biggest plan of the Cunetas, either Chet or Sharon, in 2022.

Kumbaga, kinalampag lang nila ang kamalayan ng mga Pasayeño that the Cunetas still exist in the realm of local politics.

For all we, the Pasayenos, know, mismong ang Megastar na ang tatakbo.

Aniya, espesyal pa rin ang relationship nila ng aktor na inilarawan niyang, “more than friend but less than lovers.”

“Hindi naman naging kami to begin with.

Maraming qualities si Jerome na nagustuhan ni Jane as a person and as a friend, “Sweet siya as a person. Hindi ko lang maalala kung may ginawa siya for me noon. Pero as a person, sweet siya, maalalahanin naman siya. Mabait.

‘Yung comfortable ako at ikaw. Ganoon lang, walang pretensions,” aniya pa.

Nang tanungin naman si Jerome about sa past nila ni Jane, “Wala naman yata kaming…we’re friends, ‘yun lang.

Nananatili kaming magkaibigan kasi madalas naman kaming nagkikita dahil ‘pag nakikita kami nagkukwentuhan nang matagal, tapos nagkakayayaan lumabas with other friends.”

Sa pagkakaalam namin, very much together pa rin sina Jerome at volleyball player Mika Reyes.

    Rosette Adel (Philstar.com) - May 16, 2019 - 11:49pm

MANILA, Philippines — At the age of 95, it seems like former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile is finally ending his more than 50 years of public service in the country following his recent loss in the 2019 midterm polls.

Enrile, known as “Manong Johnny,” currently ranks 22nd in the partial and unofficial results of the Senate race of the Commission on Elections with 5,263,047 votes.  At 9:28 p.m., the results are now at 97.69% election returns processed.

This is not the first time that Enrile lost in his senatorial bid. He did not enter the winning circle in the 1971 elections and also lost a Senate seat in 2001.

The nonagenarian previously served four terms in the Senate during the 8th (1987-1992), 11th (1995 to 2001), 13th to 16th (2004 to 2016) Congresses.

In July 2014, Enrile surrendered on plunder and graft charges for his alleged involvement in the multi-million peso pork barrel scam.

He was freed a year later after the Supreme Court in August 2015 allowed him to post bail for P1.45 million.

Prior to being a senator, Enrile was a member of the House of Representatives from 1992 to 1995 for the 1st District in Cagayan, where he hails.

He also served as acting Secretary of Finance from 1966 to 1968, Secretary of Justice from 1968 to 1970 and Minister of National Defense from 1972 to 1986.

Enrile announced he would retire from service during his last Senate session in July 2016.

Last October, however, Enrile filed a certificate of candidacy to run for senator anew citing that he wanted to “join the fun.”

He campaigned independently for the 2019 midterm elections but ran under the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino. He still went by his famous campaign slogan “Gusto ko happy ka (I want you to be happy).”

Enrile was able to serve the following seven presidents throughout his political career: Ferdinand Marcos, Corazon Aquino, Fidel Ramos, Joseph Estrada, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and Rodrigo Duterte.

Had he won in the May 13 polls, Enrile could have been hailed as the oldest living politician in the world dethroning 91-year-old Mahatir Mohammad, the current prime minister of Malaysia. Mahatir was also named as the Oldest Prime Minister by the Guinness World Records.

READ: Aged 94, Juan Ponce Enrile may break a world record if elected in 2019

Despite his loss, Enrile took to social media to thank his supporters.

Enrile said in a post last Tuesday.

(Thank you to everyone who supported me in the past months!)

(It is heartwarming to see you all for the betterment of our nation’s future)

    (Philstar.com) - May 17, 2019 - 4:17pm

MANILA, Philippines — Reelectionist Sen. Bam Aquino, the last hope of the opposition coalition for the 2019 senatorial race, asked for prayers Friday as he remained outside of the winner’s circle.

Aquino placed 14th in the latest partial and unofficial Comelec rankings with 14,055,212 voters supporting his bid to extend his stay at the upper house.

With about 2% of election returns left for canvassing, the Otso Diretso candidate needs to edge out fellow reelectionist senators JV Ejercito at 13th spot and 12th placer Nancy Binay to snag the last spot in the Senate race.

In the partial and official count accounting for 77.25% of the total votes, the Liberal Party bet is barely hanging at the 12th spot. Counting of the partial, official tally takes longer since these are subject to canvassing.

The results of the unofficial and official counts should match.

The Liberal Party bet, in his first post since Monday's elections, addressed his supporters: “I just want to tell everyone out there that I’m OK!”

He added: “Please continue praying for me, better yet, please continue praying for and loving our country.”

Aquino also said his love for his fellow Filipinos will not falter regardless of the outcome of the elections.

“Love, love, love and gratitude to all those sending their messages of support!” he said.

The Otso Diretso slate has suffered a major heartbreak as Aquino’s seven co-candidates failed to win in the Senate race.

Allies of President Rodrigo Duterte, meanwhile, dominate the top 12—a development seen to fortify the chief executive’s powers and pave way for his controversial projects. — Gaea Katreena Cabico

    Jess Diaz (The Philippine Star) - May 18, 2019 - 12:00am

He made the initiative five days after his PDP-Laban ticket made a clean sweep of the elections in his province, beating candidates fielded by the mayor’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago, including three belonging to the Floirendo-del Rosario political clan.

MANILA, Philippines — Reelected Davao del Norte first district Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez yesterday offered to reconcile with his political enemies, including Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, with whom he had a bitter feud before he was ousted as House speaker in July last year.

He made the initiative five days after his PDP-Laban ticket made a clean sweep of the elections in his province, beating candidates fielded by the mayor’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago, including three belonging to the Floirendo-del Rosario political clan.

“Now that elections are over, I offer my hand in peace to heal our deep and divisive wounds,” Alvarez said in a statement, without referring specifically to President Duterte’s daughter or his former friend, outgoing Davao del Norte second district Rep. Antonio Floirendo Jr., with whom he had an equally acrimonious quarrel before his feud with Mayor Sara.

“Borrowing the words of a statesman from an era long past: ‘A house divided against itself cannot stand... though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. We are not enemies, but friends. The mystic chords of memory will swell when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature,’” he said.

Alvarez called for “unity and progress in our Davao region and our beloved country.”

“Let us consolidate our efforts in making true change and uplift the lives of our countrymen,” he said.

He thanked the President and Mayor Sara, who founded Hugpong months before Monday’s balloting, “for their leadership, both at the national and local level, in making sure that the 2019 elections in Davao del Norte were peaceful, orderly and fair.”

Alvarez defeated outgoing Gov. Anthony del Rosario, while Vice Gov. Alan Dujali beat Floirendo. Alvarez’s chief of staff, Edwin Jubahib, prevailed over long-time governor-congressman and Marcos-era minister of environment and natural resources Rodolfo del Rosario Jr.

The Del Rosarios and Floirendo were candidates of Hugpong, while Alvarez, Hubahib and Dujali ran under PDP-Laban, of which the former speaker is secretary general.

Alvarez’s allies trounced Hugpong bets in other areas of Davao, except Davao City, where Mayor Sara won reelection and her bothers Sebastian and Paulo were elected as vice mayor and first-district congressman, respectively.

While speaker, Alvarez deprived his former friend Floirendo his House posts, including his membership in the powerful Commission on Appointments. Floirendo was also removed as PDP-Laban member. He later joined Hugpong.

He reclaimed his posts when the House ousted his Davao del Norte colleague and replaced him with former president and Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

In several speeches, the President has repeatedly acknowledged that it was his daughter who “maneuvered” the ouster of his Davao del Norte ally as speaker of the House of Representatives.  –  With Edith Regalado

Kadenang Ginto continues to reign afternoon TV hits over 800 million views on YouTube

"Kadenang Ginto" has taken over afternoon with its intense scenes and trending catfights, making it the most watched afternoon program and one of the most talked about Kapamilya series on social media.

Since the show aired on television, the show headline by Beauty Gonzales, Francine Diaz, Andrea Brillantes, at Dimples Romana has consistently reigned its timeslot and remained unbeatable in national TV ratings. It recently hit its all-time high rating of 27.3% — an exceptional feat for an afternoon series — and remained within the 20%-mark, according to data from Kantar Media.

It has also reached massive success online as its daily highlights on YouTube hit over 800 million total views, with almost each video reaching more than one million views. The series is also a major hit on iWant as it topped the list of most watched programs on the streaming service last April, earning over 1.5 million views daily.

Its success also has also translated on social media as the series has spurred countless of memes that netizens enjoy. Some even make their own versions of the iconic confrontations, such as vlogger Kyo Quijano, whose parody series "Kadenang Tanso" has earned over one million views.

The show was also hailed the Best Daytime Series in the 2019 Golden Laurel Awards at the University of the Philippines-Batangas for its gripping scenes and compelling story.

Meanwhile, “Kadenang Ginto” brings more explosive twists, starting off with the addition of former “PBB Otso” housemate Seth Fedelin to the cast.

From the success of “Kadenang Ginto,” Dreamscape Entertainment launches “The Gold Squad” of Francine, Kyle, Seth, and Andrea – four fun, responsible, driven, and family-oriented teens from different backgrounds with diverse life experiences. Together, “The Gold Squad” will bring surprises that their young fans will be able to relate to, starting off with their own album that will soon be released by Star Music.

Aside from “The Gold Squad,” more unexpected revelations will grip viewers now that Romina (Beauty) is finally acquitted from the case filed against her. But Daniela (Dimples) will not allow to be dethroned and will do what it takes to defeat her mortal enemy. Seeing her mother struggle because of Romina, Marga’s (Andrea) hatred towards Cassie (Francine) will grow even more and make her realize that she is not worthy of being a Mondragon.

Where will the conflict of the female Mondragons lead them to?

Keep this series more intense scenes coming its way as well as increasing ratings.

Idol hopefuls get praises from foreign singers YouTube reactors

The Idol hopefuls of “Search for the Idol Philippines” are making waves in the international scene as they earn praises from various foreign singers and YouTube reactors for their impressive audition performances.

Despite his audition only aired last Sunday (May 12), Lance Busa already caught the attention of the American singing legend Anita Baker, who followed him on Twitter and tweeted “Soul music alive and well with our friends in the Philippines.” Another American singer Brian McKnight also became Lance’s instant fan as the RnB star followed him on Instagram.

Lance’s audition piece also earned approval from “American Idol” season 7 alumnus David Hernandez, who commented on one of his online posts, and was reposted by the foreign Instagram account @theyhavetherange.

Meanwhile, several reaction videos of YouTube reactors showing how they were impressed by the Idol hopefuls’ audition performances also surfaced online, with some of the even earning hundred thousands of views.

Juancho Gabriel’s performance of the song “Your Man” left the reactor from the Music Games News channel, which has 475,000 subscribers, in awe and commented that “it was surprising and it was different” as he praised Juancho’s unique baritone voice.

“She has so much emotion and she was singing from her heart,” said the reactor from the Brothers channel, which has 442,000 subscribers, as he felt the emotional performance of Angie Kristine who sang “Jar of Hearts.”

Partners Yani and Fabio, who has 136,000 subscribers, were thrilled with Matty Juniosa’s rendition of “Natural Woman” as they admired his “technique” and “sass” while performing.

Another set of Idol hopefuls will try to impress and touch viewers’ hearts this weekend. Who among them will get the chance to step on the Idol City?

Meanwhile, “Search for the Idol Philippines” continues to reign on weekends. Last Saturday (May 11), it recorded a national TV rating of 31.3% versus “Daddy’s Gurl” (16.9%), according to data from Kantar Media. It also won last Sunday (May 12) with 27.8%, beating “Studio 7” (14%).
I'm overwhelmed at Lance Busa and he might be the next R&B-pop star soon in not only in Philippines but also in worldwide like Anita and Brian did.

PresiDebt Duturtle: @Bobong_Marcos “Sana naisip mo yan during 2016 Presidential Election db?

“You have no idea how hard it is to crush peoples dreams right in front of them.

That’s the burden we carry as judges to try and give one special person a chance of a lifetime. Just wait. The auditions isn’t even the hardest part.

“Like I said, Luke Baylon is a good singer but we’re looking for the total package. Wait till you see the 12 finalists. You’ll see why I said he wasn’t ready. For now, I wish Luke all the success is his music career. That rendition of If I Ain’t Got You was sick,” ani James.

(Athena Yap)
