Is there a high chance of approval if I use AMEX card as reference in applying a new card from other Card Issuer?

AMEX & BDO as Reference Card to other Card Issuers

Strong7Power: Same experience with other ISSUER. Kapag "BDO" cards, declined. Pero kapag "AMEX" (in spite being BDO issued), approved agad.

gibsonfan: If stricter ang process ng AmEx, then yeah it really should be a good reference card kasi it will show na nakapasa ka sa AmEx processing. Higher ang requirements nito compared to similar cards in BDO (AXP Platinum Credit vs other BDO Platinum Cards for example).

Strong7Power: Better use AMEX than BDO branded cards, for card references.

Are AMEX and DCI card points eligible for BDO Rewards Card points conversion?

    NOT ELIGIBLE.

Why AMEX Cards cannot consider BDO Credit Cards (technically)

Though issued by the PH's Largest Bank, American Express and DCI cards are somehow separated among BDO credit cards arsenal.

MasterCard, Visa, JCB, and CUP brands are considered BDO Credit Cards.

AMEX (even Discover/DCI) has own different business model and separate membership rewards program and catalogue (AMEX MR & AMEX Incentivo) from BDO Credit Cards catalogue.

Albeit BDO-issued, AMEX card is considered under American Express Company (AMEXCO), not BDO.

Unlike MC and Visa, AMEX cards are products of the AMEX Company. AMEXCO is not just an electronic funds processor but Bank and Issuer of credit card, debit card, charge card, and traveller's check. AMEX has its own network.

Aside from partnering with other financial institutions (in our case, BDO), AMEXCO also works as the credit card issuers.

Check the https://www.binlist.net/ to see if BDO-issued AMEX card is tagged as BDO credit card or not.

Maybe (my assumption), this is also the reason why AMEX Card (even Diners/Discover cards) does (do) not qualify as a requirement for BDO Rewards loyalty program

OPINION: How high the acceptance of AMEX and DCI cards?

    MERCHANT ACCEPTANCE
gibsonfan: Kaya rito sa NCR, very widely accepted na ito for me. Or at the very least may extra na BDO terminal for AmExCo and other brands. I'd say 80-90% acceptance sa NCR.

Low margins kasi sila so every percent counts.

MERCHANT DISCRETION IN AMEXCO and DINERS ACCEPTANCE
schizophresiac: Actually, minsan hindi talaga. The merchant has the discretion of not accepting AmExCo or JCB or CUP if they ONLY applied for MC/Visa/BancNet/MegaLink/ExpressNet. I applied sa BDO for Merchant Accreditation, iba-iba ang Merchant Discounting ng card brands. Premium Brands ang AmEx, JCB, CUP, and Diners Club International.

i.e. BDO POS Terminal (sa contract usually ng RTW and Dress Shops) MC and Visa 6% merchant discounts + 0.5% WT = 6.5% kaltas sa kada swipe. 3.5% merchant discount for BancNet, MegaLink, and ExpressNet, walang withholding tax. And then sa CUP, JCB and AmEx nasa 7 to 8.5% plus 0.5% WT sa bawat transaction.

Tumatanggap ng MasterCard, Visa, CUP, JCB, and AmEx (including Megalink, Bancnet and Expressnet) ang mga BDO-issued POST. However, nasa discretion din kasi ng merchant iyan kung ie-enrol nila ang POST nila sa mga tinatawag nilang "Premium" Cards na JCB, CUP and AmEx na mas mataas magporsyento kaysa sa mainstream na MasterCard and Visa. Kaya minsan, hindi talaga pwede

What are the options in changing my card type?

    CHANGE OF CARD TYPE OPTIONS
CARD DOWNGRADE – change of card type in lower tier within the same card brand. (e.g. AMEX Platinum Credit to AMEX Blue)

CARD UPGRADE – change of card type in higher tier within the same card brand. (e.g. DCI Standard Credit to DCI Premiere)

CARD CONVERSION – change of card type between two card payment brands. (e.g. MasterCard Credit to Diners Club International)

In BDO, there's P400 replacement card fee for card conversion/downgrade/upgrade.
  • Strong7PowerStrong7Power Member PEx Moderator

Will my points forfeit when ask for change of card type?

    (a) Kung pareho ng spend to points/miles/rebate ratio pati ang Rewards Catalogue, mananatili ang nakuha mo sa rewards system (e.g. Visa Platinum to JCB Platinum; Classic Visa to Gold Visa, JCB Gold to CUP Gold).

Is there any change in MEMBER SINCE when card type changes?

Mananatili ang taon ng MEMBERS SINCE once na na-down/upgrade o conversion ang card regardless of card brands.

This may only be applicable to BDO Cards ONLY.

    What is Card Security Code?

A card security code (CSC; also called card verification data [CVD], card verification number, card verification value [CVV], card verification value code, card verification code [CVC], verification code [V-code or V code], or signature panel code [SPC]) is a security feature for "card not present" payment card transactions instituted to reduce the incidence of credit card fraud.

    The codes have different names
    • CID": "Card Id", "Card Identification Number", or "Card Identification Code" – Discover, American Express (four digits on front of card)
    • "CSC" or "Card Security Code" – American Express debit cards (three digits on back of card)
    • "CVD" or "Card Verification Data" – Discover, sometimes used as the common initialism for this kind of code

For Pilipino-issued American Express Card, the last 3-digit in the rear side is purposely used in BDO Online Banking enrollment only.

*The card security code is different from the Verified by Visa, MasterCard SecureCode, JCB J/Secure or AMEXCO SafeKey, or DCI ProtectBuy password [known as One-Time PIN (OTP)] which is set by you when you enroll your card online with those 3-D Secure services.*

What are the credit limit options in BDO credit cards?

    According to BDO’s discretion
SEPARATE CREDIT CARD LIMIT – Each BDO card of yours has a separate credit line.

SHARED CREDIT CARD LIMIT (SCCL) – the consolidated Credit Card Limit assigned to you across all your BDO Credit Cards.

*BDO may, at its sole discretion, give a separate Credit Card Limit for each of the card issued or a consolidated Shared Credit Limit (SCCL) for all such cards.

According to Cardmember’s Request, subject to Issuer’s Approval
CARD LIMIT CONSOLIDATION – combination of credit line and outstanding balances of two or more credit cards into one account (surviving credit card account). This will be resulted for the permanent cancellation of the remaining non-surviving credit card accounts.

CARD LIMIT ALLOCATION – Conversion of Card Limit Scheme from Separate to Shared and Aligned, assigned to two or more or across all your BDO Credit Cards.

CARD LIMIT REALLOCATION – Transfer of portion of credit line from one credit card account to another account of yours. Temporary and Permanent options are available.

Note: To check if your credit card account is under the Shared Credit Card Limit or NOT, your TOTAL CUSTOMER LIMIT [TCL] (or the sum of all credit limits of your BDO/AMEX/DCI credit cards) should be equal to your Credit Card Limit (as indicated on your Welcome Pack card carrier).

*Simple Installment Card (SIC) is excluded in these card limit options.

    ---

TEMPORARY INCREASE IN CREDIT LIMIT - You may request for temporary ICL in times of emergency such as vacation abroad, hospital expenses, etc. Still, subject to Bank's approval.
