Her floor defense is similar to Alyssa Valdez during her rookie year. Remember it took two years bago gumaling si AV sa floor defense.
Not all rookies can do that kind of attack..
bumbackrow pa  yan haha... d pa nga nag babackrow si alysa nung first yr nya

She's not called "The Phenom" if she isn't the complete package. Although not known yet for her floor defense in her rookie year, I believe all aspects in the attacking arsenal ay well-versed na siya. She can do it all - down-the-line, cross-court, front-row kill, end zone attacks, back-row hits, and her very deceiving off-speed shots.

Ang galing pa niya sa blocking and services.

Probably in my own personal taste, she's that one rookie that really IMPRESSED me up until now. Payat pa niya nun but you can sense that the girl really gives her all for their matches, evidently showed when time-to-time na nagcaca-cramps siya.

according to coach o, several high school players in the ongoing rebisco league, including 3 from overseas, have either tried out for, or have committed, to admu.

fyi, there are 3 foreign teams participating:
    hawaii, usa
    malaysia
    new zealand

Ang dami na niyang recruit this year. Mahihirapan siya to convince future prospects to commit to ADMU if makikita na may chance na di ito magamit.

recruitment is an activity that doesn't stop or shouldn't stop. at the same time coach o has no history of hoarding which is volume signing up and getting commitments. who knows, he might be genuinely interested in only 1 or 2 players from this tournament.

hoarding, especially in basketball (which you mentioned), resulting in people moving to other schools, is not a phenomenon in admu (unless di kaya yung academics or na-homesick). sa ibang school yung tradition na ganun.

Kung may mga magaling na sobrang battle ready na na recruits, why we'll we refuse them? Sorry pero Go and Jaycel as MBs mej not even close to BDL's rookie form or Maddie's s78 form. Optimistic masyado maabot nila yan in a year.

We also have to take note na next year talaga tayo rebuilding. And we're also not assured if the Team B recruits will be satisfactory na. Look at Coach Tai, he's the best trainer but he's not a miracle worker. Wala din syang naggawa kanila Abela, Basa, etc. They were still not good enough to be fielded in.

Siguro ang kailangan lang i-assure ng management is nakakapag-regular tournament din yung Team B just like the basketball team. There's always school, anyway.

  • IMHO, recruitment is recruitment, but for me development is much better. Look at the AMBT, coach Tab was more into developing rather recruiting and look where the team is now and with their “next man up” mentality.

Can't we have both? They don't have to be mutually exclusive. I don't think Tab is only into development. His controversial statement re: Dave Ildefonso shows how much he values great recruitment as well.

I think we also need to take into consideration how basketball is miles ahead sa volleyball in terms of grassroots developments in the country. Kahit sa kanto, paliga sa subdivision, may makikita kang magaling. I can't say the same thing for volleyball. If development was enough, Tai could have easily produced a Denden like libero again.

I think it will always boils down sa VB IQ ng bata at yung willingness to accept their role.

Parang si Denden Lazaro, converted libero from middle blocker. Her first three years as libero sobrang inconsistent nya pa. Her receiving is really her waterloo during her rookie and sophomore year. But Coach Tai gave Denden the confidence that she needs, yung mindset na happy lang, walang pressure yung nakatulong talaga kay Denden.

  • I’m not saying Ateneo shouldn’t recruit. Every team naman tries to recruit players, but sa akin lang try to develop players that we have already. Medyo yan ang na-o-overlook ni coach O. Case in point, that lot of pexers here talk about, is the development of Fanger and Raagas. Why doesn’t coach O try to olay them more often sa PVL? How about the players in team b? Any plans for their development? Any plans to enter them in tournaments or puro practice games lang? Sayang yung talent and time.

first of all, it's a little unfair at this point in time to claim that coach o. has overlooked the development of players. remember that he hasn't even coached the women's team in the uaap. maybe when he's already into his 2nd or 3rd year, we can give a more objective opinion about whether he was able to successfully develop his players or not.

secondly, everyone here knows that i'm a big fan of giving the rookies all the minutes possible in actual games like the ones in the pvl. but how sure are we (and how sure am i) that there is no development happening during their practices and scrimmages?

he's been a coach for some time now so i'm sure he knows he needs to develop the players in his pool. how he intends to do it, when he intends to it, etc. is his call at the end of the day. all i'm saying is that it might be better to reserve judgment about his ability (or inability) to develop his players after a more reasonable period of time.

for someone who just joined pex, you are spreading way too much negativity. you are talking as if coach oliver has been around for 2 years and nothing has happened. coach oliver has only been around for 6 months. 6 months. it's not even uaap yet and you are already expecting championship caliber skills from the lady eagles?

i have to disagree with you with the development part seeing how marck espejo, rex intal, peter torres, josh villanueva, ysay marasigan are playing right now or when they were in the uaap. marck wasn't known for his floor defense in high school. wong has improved her decision-making and distribution as a setter, even vanie gandler has grown in the last 6 months. she wasn't like that when she came in to join the team.

there will be another big batch of recruits for next year. and it could be the last big wave in another 2-3 years. 6 months ago, despite having 11 recruits, oliver wasn't satisfied. he said there's still players he wants to get, specifically in the middle blocker and outside position. if he is able to get the recruits he wants this year, we will have a complete line-up, a line-up that is pretty much solid in all positions and skills. as vince told me, "walang butas".
