LVPI firm on sending volleybelles to Asiad

    http://tribune.net.ph/index.php/2018/07/01/lvpi-firm-on-sending-volleybelles-to-asiad/

Even without government support, the highly popular Philippine national women’s volleyball team will still see action in the 18th Asian Games.

LVPI Vice-President Cayco said if the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) refuses to finance its participation, they would have no choice but to look for private funding so that their participation and the entire program would not be hampered.

    -snipped-

    After 36 looong years, finally!
eventhough there are more qualified countries who deserve a slot in the ASIAD.

how much is MVP willing to cough up for the ASIAD committee just to get a slot for the LVPI team. ang rich rich.

Yes correct. Thats why they need exposure. Similar to the situation ng football ng pinas. Umaalagwa sa rankings due to exposures.

Are they expecting more than 22k athlete? Parang andami.

Kung walang constraints from indonesia. Send more athlete.

Yes they need exposure. Im not against that. But they seem to have jumped ahead of other sports that have athletes that will perform better who failed to make the criteria. Its not about whether or not Volleyball needs exposure. Who else who is non qualified and failed to make the guidelines do you see asking for exposure.

There was qualifying guidelines that have to be kept at all costs. If you dont stick to guidelines that were originally made, you open the floodgates of conflict and bickering.

For Die hard Volleyball fans i can see they want there team to be at Asian Games. However what about those athletes who miss on the slots who say didnt get 4th place qualifciation but got say 5th or 6th place qualification based on the last Asian Games? The Philippines was 8th at Asian Champs right, that is not even as strong a competition as Asian Games as Asian Games involves all nations almost.

not to take away from other athletes from other sports. I mean their federations were given priority in past years. for example, athletics, they cant seem to produce more LOCAL talents than fil-foreigns that can match international standards/intl-caliber players. swimming is spiraling downwards. etc.

obviously, theres something wrong with their grassroots program even though they have been given more funds and included in the top tier bracket in psc. looking at this perspective, why not try other sports/federations that might produce local talents that can match international opponents in the near future. we are looking at the learning curve of the federation itself rather than the players it accumulates. and with this perspective, womens vb, is definitely having a good and very steep learning curve recently. from just participant in 2015 to semifinalist in SEAG2017. they also entered the top 8 in Asian championship. basically, the support spent on the federation were used correctly. and thus, I believe should be given more support to reach their full potential.

    ----
and for those people who keeps comparing team sports over individual event players. I feel that this actually UNFAIR for TEAM sport to be unprioritized because it can only produce 2 medals at most and rather focus on events requiring single athletes. a team sport IMO is a harder sport than individual sport. it needs proper scouting of members of the team, an individual sport can just send one and discard the rest. team sports need more coordination than individual sports. team sports has fewer international competition over individual sports. basically, if you send 3 or 4 from individual sports for multiple events, you already showed your support for the federation. I cant seem to understand why they cant support a mere single event like vb when they will not even pay a cent for their participation in the event. a mere approval for multi sport event is already a reward for those team sport federations.

    ----
going back to my comment earlier here. no hard feelings if volleyball will not be included. I just find my reasoning as reasonable to defend. yes its unfair for those athletes who had been in 5th place etc in the past Asian game. they should be included. pero obviously they should have shown improvement in 4 years. it should be part of their resumes. if they cant improve their standings, why should the federation and psc invest on you?

    -----
anti progress and anti equality have no room in PH sports who had been plaguing the PH sports decades-long now kaya hindi nagiimprove.. kahit di nagiimprove ang federasyon, bigay pa rin ng bigay ng pera, pero mukhang type ng marami. sige lang. walang mangyaayri sa PH sports pag ganyan. kung individual sports dapat hindi lang 4 or 5 na medal lang dapat ang naiibibigay ng federasyon. dapt may computation. total medals/achievement divided by total athlete/team supported by the federation. naku baka mas mababa pa score ng ibang federation compared sa vb na 2 team lang naman ang sinusuportahan plus under brackets. hilig kasi tignan ng PSC/POC Ang face value like medals ang achievement ng isang federasyon, pero sa totoo lang underperforming. yung iba nga kumukupit nalang sa iabng bansa ng players.. medyo nakakahiya. pinagtatakpan nalang ang kapalpakan sa grassroot program.

ilang dekada na.change the sytem. so we can see better result. medals are not the only Key performance result that PSC and POC should measure. look at long term hindi yung short term like yung makakabigay na players ng medal. elevate the sports and not a single and few player alone. dahil pag tumanda na yan, hindi na makakabigay ng medal yan. pag ang sports mismo ang pinagtibay mo, kahit may magkainjury or magretire, tuloy tuloy ang pagbibigay ng medalya.

'Pag walang support ang club teams (like basketball) ang daming batikos.

Pero 'pag katulad ng VB na may willing sponsor, hindi pa din pwede? Sa totoo lang nakakalungkot na kailangan pa magsumbatan ng mga sports fans dahil lang inutil ang mga sports officials natin.

Para sa akin (I am a fan of VB but I'm a fan of basketball, tennis and athletics as well), if an athlete has a willing sponsor and they have proven that they can compete at Asian level, then dapat payagan sila.

Ang PWVT ay may mga willing sponsors like F2 Logistics (who actually expressed their willingness to support).

Like other sports federation sa Pinas, magulo at mapulitika din and LVPI. Kung hindi lang dahil dun, kaya na nating mag2nd sa SEA.

Kailangan ba talagang targetin ang VB?

Good Person. The VB Team has been included in the final listing. I will post the final list of all athletes included on my blog as it was cc. to me and the other media a few days back.

^^ thanks for the article. just noticed two items:

    1. we are fielding a volleyball team not basketball team
    2. Girls are for u16. Women for adult athletes.

    :)

    Anyways,

Hidilyn Diaz, 271 others comprise PH contingent to Asian Games

    http://tv5.espn.com/story/_/id/23971280/hidilyn-diaz-271-others-comprise-ph-contingent-asian-games

Rio Olympics silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz leads a total of 272 athletes and 63 officials that will comprise the Philippine delegation to the 2018 Asian Games to be held August 18 to September 2 in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia.

There is a list/table showing each sport and how many athletes will be sent but I'm kinda doubtful about the authenticity of this table. It shows that we will be sending Men's volleyball too. Interestingly, women's basketball 5x5 is also part of the total count.

This is the final list i was CC. by the Taskforce. I also graphed. With Womens Volleyball and Softball (asian champions) their is now 54% men and 46% women comprising the total number of athletes. Maybe we can argue Volleyball Women's was included to establish gender equality in the team?

These officials which are 1 for every 4.3 athlete are just the coaches. These officials are officials from NSAs and do not include POC and PSC Officials, Medical staff, Masseurs, etc.

Im happy that Cray is included in the final list. He is obviously  medal contender. But we didn't hear any news about his explanation why he didn't make it to Korea Open.

Speaking of Korea, Korean Peninsula will field joint teams on certain team sports. This is history. I can already imagine a loud roar upon their entrance in the opening ceremony. But this can potentially affect the overall medal standing of Republic of Korea.

If i had to guess its because he had to work and support his family. He has 3-4 kids now.

I did a write up report on how i think the team will do.
My guess for Cray is Abderrahman of Qatar 46.98 #2 all time recently, and Abe of Japan 48.61 and 48.97 for Gold and Silver. Abe is 2-0 against Cray at Olympics and at a meet in Japan about 2 months ago. Cray PB is 48.98 from 2016 he has ran 49.68 this year. Another Japanese 49.33 (PB 48.31 in 2012) and a young Indian has ran 49.46. I think between Cray and this young Indian for Bronze.
