    Seriously??
Nothing's gonna really happen if you try to put athletes down when they are trying to gain experience to be better. Again, they said their participation is to get more experience against top teams in Asia.

Other countries do this. They don't always send athletes that are sure-medalists. Besides, the volleyball team has commercial backing, so not all of the funds come from tax payers money.

^ like what the previous post mentioned, the Malditas and Perlas deserves more support than Philippine Volleyball teams because of their achievements. the volleyball teams are not even up to the SEA Games level. early in 2018, ang daming ASEAN volleyball international competitions at i-snub nila dahil sa Super Liga. kung seryoso ang PSC, dapat 2017 palang may national team na at nagco-compete internationally for exposure and cohesion.

hype ang volleyball players natin dahil sa commercialization ng HYPE este SUPER Liga.

honestly during the last SEA Games, i was caught up with the volleyball hype and im very very disappointed with the results. para college versus highschool freshmen. we were required to send a volleyball team to the SEA Games but not at the ASIAD. kaya dont waste our taxes.

^ haha. siempre hindi. cannot be. Flag bearer na siya nung SEA Games. Could be Hidilyn Diaz sia ang pinaka worthy for that role.

Richard Gomez is currently the Chef de Mission para sa Asian Games. I would like to think na talagang pinush din niya ang inclusion ng vball team para sa Asiad knowing na he is (was) also a vball player. It's about time na din naman. More than 25 years na rin bago yung last appearance ng Team PH sa Asiad. But then again, am also rooting for Perlas and Malditas. Sayang. Kulang talaga suporta sa Perlas unlike Gilas.

Perlas - Division 1 Team sa 2017 FIBA Womens Asia Cup
Malditas - 2018 AFC Women's Asia Cup 5th placer (1 place shy of a World Cup appearance)

oo nga. i remember before the SEA Games, the Perlas players were interviewed and they expressed disappointment that PSC has never attempted to get a naturalized player for the womens basketball team.

and, yet they had more achievements than the national volleyball team.

iyan ang PUSO at hindi commercialization.

Trenten cleared to join track team in Asiad; Cray asked to explain

    https://www.philstar.com/sports/2018/06/24/1827412/trenten-cleared-join-track-team-asiad-cray-asked-explain

Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) president Philip Ella Juico cleared Beram for missing the Korean Open last week while giving Cray 10 days to explain his side to avoid the possibility of being slapped with sanctions or outright expulsion.

“He made the mistake of going in the Ayala Open in Ilagan, Isabela really tired because the US NCAA had just concluded during that time,” said Juico of Beram, the 200m and 400m gold medalist in the Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last year.

“He was really tired. He wasn’t able to return to compete in Korea. He just really can’t,” he added.

While Beram cited fatigue as reason, Cray has allegedly skipped Korea to work and make ends meet.

“I heard he’s working. It might be because their monthly allowance was cut to P27,000 and he has a family to feed,” said Juico. “We have to find ways to make it work for him.”

    -snipped-

Akala ko ba priority program ang athletics?  Why was there a cut on the allowance? Cray is an elite athlete. (well, at least for me). Juico needed to justify Cray's inclusion in the team. Well, Cray took gold in the 400m hurdles sa 2017 Asian Athletics Championships and silver as 60m sprint sa AIMAG last year. Isn't that enough? Kaloka!

the most probable reason why VB womens was given slots in ASIAD is probably may backer/sponsor sila. probably walang gagastusin ang POC/PSC. I mean sobrang popular ng WVB sa pinas. they can easily get sponsors. besides I think Goma whos part of the organizing committee is a volleyball player. sama mo na ang cayetano siblings na mga volleyball players noon.

take note na pwedeng maging cashcow ang WVB sa darating na SEAG na gaganapin ditto sa pinas. I think its worth the risk to send the VB team now.

Yung women's volleyball hindi nila nameet ang criteria at all. But PSC will gamble on them to gain experience that they need for the Asian Cup sa September and then eventually for 2019 SEA Games. They will fly to Japan on August 2 for a two-week training and a couple of rubber matches against clubs there. But yeah, I agree Perlas should also be on the list

Yung reducing the number of athletes naman, medyo na overwhelm nga talaga ang organizers lalo na sa Archery and Football. Ala-World Cup daw kasi ang Asian Games kasi 32 teams ang nagsubmit ng intent haha.

I'm betting on our dragonboat team too to take home a medal :)
    agree on three points.

about Carlos Yulo, send him for exposure for the 2020 and 2024 Tokyo Olympics. at sana huwag ma injure. this is the ASIAD and expect China and Japan to lead the medal haul in gymnastics.

our volleyball teams are soooo hyped. kung sa SEA Games hindi nga maka porma. kahit lagyan pa iyan ng naturalized player mahina pa rin at baka makagulo pa kasi walang practice yun foreign mercenary. it is a waste of taxpayers money. dapat ABSCBN ang gumastos para sa volleyball teams natin. Archery and Football is also weak. our Youth Olympiad gold medal in Archery was tied with the Sokor tandem. makokompleto ba yun strong lineup for the Asiad? most of the players have commitments in foreign leagues.

we havent made an impact in the ASIAD Games dragonboat event but if the POC is seriously looking for a ASIAD level team, it is our dragonboat athletes. hindi lang ASIAD level kung di WORLD CLASS level. they should put all backing in this team and send them early to acclimatized and train at the events area.

remember in 2016 IDBF Asian Championship in Australia, nabokya tayo sa GOLD sa dragonboat racing. something that has never happened before. alam naman ninyo gaano ka strikto ang Australia sa immigrations.

sana matauhan ang POC kung ano talaga ang priority sports at hindi yun commercially popular lang. letting Valdes be the flag bearing over Huelegas was a joke.
Sasabak ang Volleyball Team natin for ASIAD, para makagain ng experience and not to win a medal. Syempre nagiging totoo tayo sa sarili natin, ang layo ng PH Team natin compare mo sa thailand, japan, china or even vietnam and indonesia. Rebuilding stage palang naman ULIT ang team natin. Support nalang tayo malay nyo naman in the near future, makabalik sa World Championship ang PH Team natin :)

pathetic at sobrang galing ...... este hype.

remember in 2014 ASIAD, our Wushu team was the one who gave us the bulk of medals. no gold medal but they showed Filipino Athletes are not mediocre and hyped. they are not commercially popular but they are ASIAD/Olympics level athletes. hindi tulad ng isang team na dahil lang sa Commercial League ay pang World Championship na in the future.

opo. even in the Beijing Olympics, a lone Filipino Wushu athlete brought home the only gold exhibition sport medal.

PH’s Asiad contingent gets P74M budget

    http://www.malaya.com.ph/business-news/sports/ph%E2%80%99s-asiad-contingent-gets-p74m-budget

“We are expecting around 320 to 330 members of the national delegation, including coaches and members of the secretariat,” said Gomez, who was scheduled to meet with POC president Ricky Vargas later in the afternoon to brief the latter on what transpired during the meeting with the PSC.

PSC would open the bid for the agency which will handle the air fare of the national team, adding they also discussed the other requirements of the National Sports Associations fielding athletes to the Games, particularly their competition uniforms.

Seriously though I agree with the above poster. As long as the VB Team is not being sent at the Tax Payers expense. But irregardless of that what if the Womens Basketball, Malditas or even the Netball team wanted to go on their own expense. Im certain there is only a certain number of slots due to contingent possibly being housed in an athlete village. Number of beds etc. Athletes really cant stay outside an athlete village as they can't be monitored.

What if every single athlete in all sports in the National team wanted to self fund? was this made an option for them aswell?

Yes i agree give Volleyball a chance? But why just stop at Volleyball. Why not send full rosters of athletes in medal rich sports like Athletics, Swimming, Gymnastics, Cycling, Wrestling and Combat Sports aswell if they are prepared to self fund themselves? If Volleyball why not them aswell?

Here is my summary of Track and Field athletes being sent which I am gradually updating each day. Obiena and Cray are the strongest medal chances in the current line up. But will have updates more on this if they acquite a certain Fil-American athlete who can deliver a sure medal as well.

    Nice read sir! Very informative!!

Here's to hoping na next Asiad we'll see more female sprinters. Vietnam has been investing heavily sa athletics nila and meron na silang high quality sprinters especially Le Tu Chinh so I won't be surprised to see her next month sa Jakarta.

4 more days and we'll see the complete list of Team PH.

  • pinoyathleticspinoyathletics ATFS Statistician PEx Veteran ⭐⭐
Le Tu Chinh will def be in Asian Games. She has been training over at IMG in the United States up till now. Also of note is how rapidly Indonesia has improved with American Coach Harry Mara (who mentored Ashton Eaton to a world record in Decathlon a few years ago).

Londa (leads long jump, 2014 AG Champion), Zohri (won the asian juniors 100m dash), Maholtra (won Korea Open), Sapturrahman (leapt 7.98m at Korea Open #3 all time south east asia), and Emilia Nova (13.5 in 100 Hurdles recently) are all doing very well.

On a note of the Volleyball. We do not see Basketball and Malditas insisting on going.

But from a newspaper Inquirer on March 18.

The final number of athletes, however, could reach 200 with the inclusion of the women’s softball team, which qualified to the Games by finishing second in the 2017 Asian Women’s Softball Championships.

Softball finished silver in Asian Champs in there event so deserve to go.

Also how is it putting down Volleyball. By clearly stating the facts. That the slots of the 12 athletes or whatever the number is. Should go to Athletes in individual events such as Combat Sports, Athletics, Gymnastics, Cycling, Archery, Weightlifting and dare I say it swimming. Officials have already pointed out not to expect any wins. So why send them and take the limited slots. Self funded or not (accommodation availability comes into play).

The qualifier for Asian Games was Top 4 or gold silver at SEA Games. Some sports have athletes that can finish top 10 out of 30 entries that are not being sent to make way for Volleyball. As their is a limitation of slots for the overall contingent.
