Huelgas, Mangrobang lead 6-man triathlon team to Asian Games

    https://sports.mb.com.ph/2018/06/15/huelgas-mangrobang-lead-6-man-triathlon-team-to-asian-games/

Southeast Asian Games gold medalists Nikko Huelgas and Kim Mangrobang will head the six-man national triathlon team in the Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games in Indonesia this August.

Joining the two are John “Rambo” Chicano and Mark Hosana for the men’s, and Claire Adorna and Kim Kilgroe in the women’s division of the Aug. 18 to Sept. 2 Asian Games

This year’s edition of the Asian Games will feature three events for triathlon – meaning three gold medals are at stake, the individual male and female, and the mixed category.

Carrasco said that Mangrobang and Kilgroe are competing in the women’s individual, while Huelgas and Chicano are the two participants in the men’s division of the Asian Games.

The mixed team will be decided by TRAP officials and the coaching staff of the national team possibly a day or two before the competition but Hosana and Adorna are assured of slots, according to Carrasco

PH Weightlifting federation appeals to POC for more slots in 2018 Asian Games

Federation president Monico Puentevella endorses 7 promising weightlifters to see action in Indonesia

According to Puentevella, the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) only assigned two slots to the federation, but there are 7 promising athletes who qualified under Asian Games standards.
"Now, what I appealed to the POC is the fact that they are giving us quotas. The quotas they set before was only two women, but it should be that whoever qualifies for the qualifying mark of the Asian Games should be considered," said Puentevella

The federation president also stressed the importance of the Asian Games' weightlifting tournament to the POC as it will serve as an Olympic qualifier for the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.

Another concern that Puentevella raised was the selection of Subic as venue of weightlifting competitions in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, which the country is hosting. According to the federation president, the POC did not even consult him for the venue. "They have assigned us to play in Subic. They haven’t even consulted me. I want to promote the sport, I want it to be in Glorietta, Greenbelt or Trinoma."

My Picks for Athletes sent to Asian Games for Athletics of the 8 approved. Juico wants to send 10 more. The deadline was June 15 and the organizers deadline is June 30.

    https://pinoyathletics.info/2018/06/15/juico-wants-21-athletes-for-asian-games-and-june-30-deadline/

Of the 8 that are currently approved. For me in order of most to least medal chance.

    1. Ernest Obiena
    2. Eric Cray
    3. Marestella Torres
    4. Trenten Beram 400 then 200
    5. Harry Diones (if he is in the 16.70 PB shape not his current 15.94 shape)
    6. Mary Joy Tabal
    7. Aries Toledo
    8. Marco Vilog

is Cray competing in the dash? or hurdles siya naka-focus.

happy to see Trenten there! i'm curious to know their prep. since a lot of them are foreign-based. kanya-kanya ba sila?

Yup, Carlos Yulo is heading to Jakarta this August

    https://www.ptvnews.ph/gymnast-yulo-captures-bronze-medal-world-cup/

Yung women's volleyball hindi nila nameet ang criteria at all. But PSC will gamble on them to gain experience that they need for the Asian Cup sa September and then eventually for 2019 SEA Games. They will fly to Japan on August 2 for a two-week training and a couple of rubber matches against clubs there. But yeah, I agree Perlas should also be on the list

I'm betting on our dragonboat team too to take home a medal :)

    agree on three points.

about Carlos Yulo, send him for exposure for the 2020 and 2024 Tokyo Olympics. at sana huwag ma injure. this is the ASIAD and expect China and Japan to lead the medal haul in gymnastics.

our volleyball teams are soooo hyped. kung sa SEA Games hindi nga maka porma. kahit lagyan pa iyan ng naturalized player mahina pa rin at baka makagulo pa kasi walang practice yun foreign mercenary. it is a waste of taxpayers money. dapat ABSCBN ang gumastos para sa volleyball teams natin. Archery and Football is also weak. our Youth Olympiad gold medal in Archery was tied with the Sokor tandem. makokompleto ba yun strong lineup for the Asiad? most of the players have commitments in foreign leagues.

we havent made an impact in the ASIAD Games dragonboat event but if the POC is seriously looking for a ASIAD level team, it is our dragonboat athletes. hindi lang ASIAD level kung di WORLD CLASS level. they should put all backing in this team and send them early to acclimatized and train at the events area.

remember in 2016 IDBF Asian Championship in Australia, nabokya tayo sa GOLD sa dragonboat racing. something that has never happened before. alam naman ninyo gaano ka strikto ang Australia sa immigrations.

sana matauhan ang POC kung ano talaga ang priority sports at hindi yun commercially popular lang. letting Valdes be the flag bearing over Huelegas was a joke.

^ let's see who will be the flag-bearer this time. Pero I am betting on Hidilyn. She is the most deserving of all.

Btw, Gabriel Moreno, our 2014 Youth Olympics gold medallist in archery was teamed up with China's Li Jiaman (mixed team event).

This is the policy in Asian and even in SEA games. Tourists sila from Colombia and Venezuela.

    uh oh

A source said the PATAFA has yet to make a final decision as to the fate of Cray and Beram as its executive committee is still finding solution to the impasse.

“Nothing final yet. The two (Cray and Beram) have an issue of non-compliance and were asked to explain,” said the source. “And then the PATAFA board will then deliberate about it and decide what to do.”

Cray and Beram were two of the eight “shoe-ins” in the quadrennial games for the national athletics team.

I wonder what is the real story behind that "miscommunication" between them and PATAFA.
Pero giving up Cray and Beram for Asian Games will be a disaster for athletics team.

Sasabak ang Volleyball Team natin for ASIAD, para makagain ng experience and not to win a medal. Support nalang tayo malay nyo naman in the near future, makabalik sa World Championship ang PH Team natin :)

The Big question is why is the Womens Volleyball being sent they finished 4th in the
SEA Games same as the womens Basketball, who have done better at previous SEA Games yet there was no major effort made to get the Womens Basketball in for Asian Games.

The criteria as of December was either Gold, Silver at SEA Games or 4th at the last Asian Games.

So how did the Womens Volleyball bypass the selection criteria put in place by the POC Taskforce?

^ haha. siempre hindi. cannot be. Flag bearer na siya nung SEA Games. Could be Hidilyn Diaz sia ang pinaka worthy for that role.

Richard Gomez is currently the Chef de Mission para sa Asian Games. I would like to think na talagang pinush din niya ang inclusion ng vball team para sa Asiad knowing na he is (was) also a vball player. It's about time na din naman. More than 25 years na rin bago yung last appearance ng Team PH sa Asiad. But then again, am also rooting for Perlas and Malditas. Sayang. Kulang talaga suporta sa Perlas unlike Gilas.

Perlas - Division 1 Team sa 2017 FIBA Womens Asia Cup
Malditas - 2018 AFC Women's Asia Cup 5th placer (1 place shy of a World Cup appearance)
