Team Philippines Chef de Mission : Richard Gomez
Budget : up to P200 million

POC approved a proposal from former chef de mission Camacho that only gold and silver medalists at the 2017 SEA Games and medalist of any color from the previous edition of the continental competition would compete in the 2018 Asian Games. (Not so sure what is Gomez's position on this now)

    2014 Asian Games Medal Output

1 Gold - courtesy of BMX
3 Silver- courtesy of Wushu and Boxing
    11 Bronze

    FINAL RANK: 22ND
    (7th among SEA Nations)

    Gilas was 7th place. :anguished:

We'll surely make a good placement this time.

Leviste aims for 6th Asian Games’ stint (Equestrian)

“I will definitely join the 2018 Asian Games, even if I have to join as an individual but still representing the country. I would go also for the 2020 Olympic Games if I qualify,” said Leviste

"Leviste bested 60 of the world’s best riders in a Grand Prix event in Slovakia and for the first time the Philippine National Anthem was played on European soil"

PH Weightlifting federation appeals to POC for more slots in 2018 Asian Games

Federation president Monico Puentevella endorses 7 promising weightlifters to see action in Indonesia

According to Puentevella, the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) only assigned two slots to the federation, but there are 7 promising athletes who qualified under Asian Games standards.
"Now, what I appealed to the POC is the fact that they are giving us quotas. The quotas they set before was only two women, but it should be that whoever qualifies for the qualifying mark of the Asian Games should be considered," said Puentevella

The federation president also stressed the importance of the Asian Games' weightlifting tournament to the POC as it will serve as an Olympic qualifier for the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.

Another concern that Puentevella raised was the selection of Subic as venue of weightlifting competitions in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, which the country is hosting. According to the federation president, the POC did not even consult him for the venue. "They have assigned us to play in Subic. They haven’t even consulted me. I want to promote the sport, I want it to be in Glorietta, Greenbelt or Trinoma."

we should send more athletes just to give them exposure. kung yun (W) Volleyball na kulelat sa SEA Games nakalusot bakit hindi magpadala para sa ....

    Bowling
    Golf
    Fencing
    Sailing
    Sepak Takraw
    Table Tennis

yup, esports will be introduced as demonstration sports.

8 national teams na ang nagqualify - China, Korea, Chinese Taipei, Hongkong, Macao, Japan, Mongolia, and Indonesia.

SEA, South Asia, Middle Asia, West Asia will each have 1 qualifier to be determined through regional competition.

^ im betting it is Malaysia for the last SEA qualifier.

with three medals for each of the 7 games. sending a squad of 5 players and a substitute looks cheap because they are playing for at the most 21 medals. hindi tulad ng basketball at volleyball tapos 3 medals lang ang available for a team of 15.

Indonesia is near. budget wise it would be better to send a larger contingent for exposure to international competition.

FEATURED Thread yun SEA Games 2019. the ASIAD will be in 2 months. the SEA Games 2019 is within a year.

    THEORY:
many expect the Philippines is be part of the lower end of the losing bracket of the ASIAD.
    it is the norm.
those who FEATURED the SEA Games thread are trying to condition social media with the orchestrated OVERALL winning success of the Philippines next year.
it only happens every time the Philippines host SEA Games.

TENTATIVE NUMBERS OF FILIPINO ATHLETES GOING TO THE 2018 ASIAN GAMES IN INDONESIA

(Image courtesy of Kristel Satumbaga Twitter, Manila Bulletin & Tempo Sportswriter)

Note: Women's Volleyball will select Top 24 but will be trimmed to 14 who will fly to Jakarta. The other 10 will still be part of continuous training for the Asian Cup and SEA Games 2019.

With Swimming now considered a focus program of PH sports, I hope we can send more athletes in the next edition. Swimming is one of the most exciting events. But it turned out we can only manage to send 4.
