Report: IT: CHAPTER TWO Will Begin Filming This Summer

According to an email exchange IndieWire recently had with IT producer Roy Lee, the sequel to Andy Muschietti's wildly successful horror epic will begin filming this summer, which puts it very much on track to hit its already-announced September 6th, 2019 release date.

Says IndieWire:

"The sequel to It, the highest-grossing Stephen King adaptation to date, will begin filming in July.

“The script is still being finalized and the locations are currently being scouted in anticipation of shooting then,” confirmed producer Roy Lee in an email to IndieWire."

As you know, IT: Chapter Two (or whatever it ends up being called) will cover the second half of Stephen King's iconic novel, which deals with an all-grown-up Losers' Club returning to Derry, Maine to put Dat Boi Pennywise in his place (Pipe?) once and for all. Who will survive and what will be left of them, indeed.

With filming set to begin in just three months, odds are we're going to start hearing some solid casting news in the very near future. While we're waiting on that to arrive, who are you picturing for the adult versions of Ben, Bev (who, yes, will probably end up being played by Jessica Chastain, but just play along here), Bill, Stan, Richie, Eddie and Mike? Give us your best choices in the comments below, and stay tuned for more on IT: Chapter Two as it becomes available.

As Expected, Jessica Chastain Is Now In Talks For IT: CHAPTER 2

For months now, director Andy Muschietti, producer Barbara Muschietti and actress Jessica Chastain have been playing coy about one of Hollywood's biggest ongoing rumors - that Chastain would be playing the adult Beverly Marsh in Muschietti's highly-anticipated IT sequel.

Today, in a hilariously overhyped reveal that will come as a surprise to almost literally no one, Variety has confirmed the thing we've all been hearing since September:

"Jessica Chastain is in negotiations to star in New Line’s It sequel as the adult version of Beverly, sources tell Variety.

Director Andy Muschietti is expected to return, though his deal to helm has not yet closed. Gary Dauberman will pen the script. Beverly was played by Sophia Lillis in the 2017 horror hit."

Variety goes on to stress that negotiations are still underway and that the IT: Chapter 2 script is not yet finished, but for now it appears safe to assume that Chastain will appear in the film (worth noting: while this might not be the most terribly exciting scoop you've ever heard, it is a strong bit of casting and we're all for it). Variety also notes that "official talks" were not in play until just a few weeks ago, which we suppose is a pretty clever way to save face after breathlessly hyping up a scoop that turns out to be a thing everyone's been assuming for months.

Stay tuned for more on IT: Chapter 2 as it becomes available. While we're here, why not hit the comments and list our your picks for the rest of the adult cast (we would've gone with little-known or entirely-unknown actors for these roles, but what do we know).

IT: Chapter 2 hits theaters on September 6th, 2019.

IT: CHAPTER TWO: Sounds Like Bill Hader’s Headed For Derry

Earlier today we learned that IT: Chapter Two would begin filming this July, a development which suggested it wouldn't be long before we heard further casting news for Andy Muschietti's sequel (until now, only Jessica Chastain has been directly tied to the film).

And, hey - whatta ya know? Less than an hour later, that's exactly what's happened.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bill Hader (HBO's Barry) and James McAvoy (Split) are both in talks to star in IT: Chapter Two, taking on the adult roles of "Trashmouth" Richie Tozier and "Stuttering" Bill Denbrough, respectively. THR also confirms that Chastain is onboard to play Beverly "January Embers" Marsh, and that Bill Skarsgård will reprise his role as Pennywise.

This is extremely exciting news. While we've long championed the idea of casting relative unknowns for the adult version of the Losers' Club, it's hard to deny how great this casting is: Hader's a perfect choice for the motor-mouthed, constantly "on" Tozier, and McAvoy's just a goddamn force to be reckoned with (see also: the aforementioned Split). One can't help but wonder what other talent will be drawn to the remaining roles; performers of Chastain, Hader and McAvoy's stature indicate that WB is really swinging for the fences here.

We're hyped. How 'bout y'all? Sound off in the comments below, and stand by for more on IT: Chapter Two as it becomes available.

Director Andy Muschietti reunites the Losers Club—young and adult—in a return to where it all began with “IT Chapter Two.”

Check out the film’s official teaser trailer below and watch “IT Chapter Two” in Philippine cinemas September 5th.

“IT Chapter Two” is Muschietti’s follow-up to 2017’s critically acclaimed and massive worldwide box office hit “IT,” which grossed over $700 million globally.  Both redefining and transcending the genre, “IT” became part of the cultural zeitgeist as well as the highest-grossing horror film of all time.  Because every 27 years evil revisits the town of Derry, Maine, “IT Chapter Two” brings the characters—who’ve long since gone their separate ways—back together as adults, nearly three decades after the events of the first film.

James McAvoy (“Split,” “Glass”) stars as Bill, Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain (“Zero Dark Thirty,” “Mama”) as Beverly, Bill Hader (HBO’s “Barry”) as Richie, Isaiah Mustafa (TV’s “Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments”) as Mike, Jay Ryan (TV’s “Mary Kills People”) as Ben, James Ransone (HBO’s “The Wire”) as Eddie, and Bill Skarsgård returning in the seminal role of Pennywise.  Andy Bean (“Allegiant,” Starz’ “Power”) plays Stanley, and reprising their roles as the original members of the Losers Club are Jaeden Martell as Bill, Wyatt Oleff as Stanley, Sophia Lillis as Beverly, Finn Wolfhard as Richie, Jeremy Ray Taylor as Ben, Chosen Jacobs as Mike, and Jack Dylan Grazer as Eddie.

Muschietti directs from a screenplay by Gary Dauberman (“IT,” “Annabelle: Creation”) based on the novel IT by Stephen King.  Barbara Muschietti, Dan Lin and Roy Lee are producing the film.  Marty Ewing, Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg are the executive producers.

The behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Checco Varese (“The 33”), Oscar-winning production designer Paul D. Austerberry (“The Shape of Water”), editor Jason Ballantine (“IT,” “Mad Max: Fury Road”), and Oscar-nominated costume designer Luis Sequeira (“The Shape of Water,” “Mama”).
