Comments: Robert Mitchum was awesomely terrifying and gave me Robert Walker from Strangers on a Train vibes. Equally great was Lillian Gish, playing the badass but kind-hearted woman that I'm always drawn to in films. I didn't know how dark the film would be so I had to restart it after 30 minutes in so I could pay more attention as I was mostly playing with my phone before. :hiya: Of course, by today's standards, it's mostly over-the-top but the gorgeous cinematography could give a lot of films nowadays a run for their money.

Comments: Lots of great shots on this one, especially those with minimalism feel. A dark comedy that just keeps on surprising. Jerry’s voice is similar to a radio announcer and is a bit distracting. The goons look like the goons in Home Alone :glee: Frances McDormand was great.

Very good movie about King George and his "madness".

Soundtrack includes the music of baroque master G.F. Handel.

Comments: Wedding receptions, it’s awkward when you are tabled with strangers. I usually just stick with the people I know. But anyway, I think the premise was okay, a group of strangers bonding over the wedding of a common acquaintance(s). They were the outcast of the invited guests. But the focus of the story is Eloise. She meets a potential love interest in the wedding reception while she also deals with her ex (the best man & brother of the bride). It was more of a light drama than a comedy.

Comments: Very hard to follow this movie if you don't really pay attention because it's Russian. It's certainly a challenge because there's a lot of slow moments. Thankfully the actress playing the lead role is good and charming enough to hold your attention.

Comments: The opening scene reminded me of a scene in Koreeda’s debut film. Some scenes are predictable, cliched, and exaggerated. Nora was good, Amy Austria was beautiful. I don’t like the ending. It’s cheesy, they should have ended it when Nora was still at the station even after the train has left.

I am usually into detective, mystery thriller stuff, but I can't seem to get too involved with Angels & Demons. I just do not understand why a murderous villain had to go through an elaborate masterplan when he could have easily killed whoever he wanted dead. Parang bobo lang? Or maybe because the main antagonist was too obvious from the get-go that I lost interest and mocked the supposed reveal (no, I have not read the book).

That said, it's always fun to watch exposing hypocrisies of the Catholic Church and stupidity of its people. Cheers!

Comments: Some good fight scenes c/o Jackie Chan of course but I wasn't really feeling this. Gusto ko yung medyo serious yung role nya dito pero ewan kung bakit hindi nag-click, maybe has something to do with the pacing of the story, bagal kasi. I liked seeing Pierce Brosnan as the villain though.

(full review)

Comments: So obviously pinanood ko lang to dahil kay Rooney Mara. :hiya: Actually sinimulan ko na sya last year pero inantok ako kaya di ko tinuloy. Pinanood ko na sya ng buo this year since eto na lang movie ni ateng na di ko pa natatapos tsaka miss ko na long hair nya. Okay naman yung movie but it's nothing special. Pero ang sarap pakinggan ng Portuguese language. Yung book daw pala nito was inspired by Smokey Mountain.

I love colorful animation movies, and musical to boot. Tho I kinda predicted the storyline, I still enjoyed the movie. It has Book of Life feels coz of the theme, good thing they managed to stand on its own.

Listed in the 1001 Movies to See Before You Die.

Although one may think this was a crude movie, consider though the era during which the time this movie was made .

The "superimposition" effect was crude in 1940 but comparing that to movies made by the Philippines using the same effect ... the Philippine's was still using a crude effect even by the 1990s.

Comments: I became a fan of Anya Taylor-Joy after watching The Witch that's why I wanted to watch this. Of course, expected ko na that James McAvoy will nail his role(s) and he didn't disappoint. But the movie did. I expected to be hooked and unable to look away from the screen but it was just somehow really boring. :( Parang wala masyadong nangyayari sa plot all throughout. Nagawa ko pang maglaro sa phone.

Comments: I'm not really familiar with Cleopatra's story so I didn't have many expectations for this but I still felt disappointed. The Ten Commandments is the only Cecil B. DeMille film I've seen previously, so I guess I imagined something of that calibre. Positives were the costumes, the sets, and Cleopatra herself, played by Claudette Colbert, whom I liked a lot here than in It Happened One Night.

As expected of movies from that time, the cast isn't diverse and is quite racist. There's a scene where some Roman gossips are talking about Cleopatra and one of them asks if she's black and the others just answer with derisive laughter. I almost expected someone to go Mean Girls on her and say "Oh my God, Aurelia. You can't just ask people if someone's black!"

The movie didn't explore Cleopatra's personality as much as I wanted it to and I felt like everything she did was in reaction to the powerful men around her. It also wasn't very interesting and, for an "epic" it felt very light. Thankfully, Colbert was fun to watch and the runtime wasn't too long even though it felt like it.
