sushihunk26sushihunk26 PEx Rookie ⭐
Galit ba karamihan ng pinoys sa pera? Bakit marami mapa-ofw at local employees walang ipon? Do they practice one day millionaire lifestyles? Do they spend more? Do they have bahala na si batman mentality? How to break this habit?

  • Hindi sa pagiging one day millionaire, but many Filipinos' idea of wealth is having a lot of real properties and cars instead of having 20M in the bank account. I guess it's something that arose due to our former agricultural-heavy economy.

That's why many OFWs retire with barely any savings but have a house and lot and one or two condo units or two to their name. Nasa iyo na kung tingin mo that's a wise decision or not.

Pero ako, I prefer being cash heavy. A condo unit can't pay the bills for a sudden medical emergency.

Kasi napansin ko kahit yung mga tumama sa lotto dati like 5-10 million ang prize, they still ended up broke.

As a working pinoy, if you save at least PHP 250.00 a day. In one month, it is already 5,500.00 Sa loob ng one year siguro mga at least 50k - 60 k na siya. I don't work locally pero siguro pag ako nasa pinas, ganun and ways to save money.

kelangan talaga may retirement plan, mahirap talaga maka ipon as in cash na nasa banko.

maganda pa nga yung straight from the pay, before taxes para ganahan ang mga tao, nothing feels better than knowing youre escaping liabilities. :hiya:

  • Because Filipinos are an emotional race.

We are no. 1 as the most emotional people in the world.

    sjkxkpppnu6uo9nsaaoe0w.gif

We are a nation where men are cry babies. We've seen grown men in front of the camera cry and cry.

So, when you put this fact into the financial equation, the emotional well being comes first. You buy this, spend this, splurge here, splurge there, beer tayo! yabayabadooo! Having fun like there's no tomorrow. Lol!

It's always pleasure first with Filipinos. Saving money destroys the very purpose of existence.

Actually, it is still possible to have heavy cash in your savings account. Yun nga lang, most pinoys are not trained in terms of financial literacy. Bihira lang may alam ng mutual funds, UITFs and other investment vehicles. Walang emergency funds. Kaya when they got laid off, mangungutang agad. If you ask me, dapat kasama sa high school and college subjects ang personal finance. Hindi naman masama magipon and saying no to you relatives is not bad para they can learn how to stand on their own feet. Kasi pag bigay ka ng bigay, relatives won't learn and they become lazy overtime.

My principle is to pay myself first and don't give in to "Palibre mentality"

Lol

  • Eating out once in a while is alright. It affects your finances but it won't make you poor. You know what makes middle-class people poor? Loans and debt  A car loan and amortizations for condo units can make even a person earning 50K poor.

Most OFWs are actually thrifty. They're the ones working so they know how hard it is to earn money. They just end up spending a lot because of the persistence of their families here in the Philippines.

We don't know how to take advantage of the power of compounding and how interest on liabilities are enormous. Also the appreciation and depreciation and the inflation and deflation.

Long time ago Europeans and North Asians saved their harvest to lasts over the winter. Years later that habit translated to money.

In a tropical country, you have food to harvest year round as well as fish from the ocean. Years later, this habit made money seem meaningless.

Emergency funds must be liquid and available to you in case of sudden job loss, major illness just to name a few. You can't just sell a condo or a prestigious car once you got laid off from work. It will take some time. It's better to have at least 3-6 months of emergency funds available. Then, you can have UITFs, mutual funds or traditional business. These vehicles can give you returns but it would still depend on your risk appetite and holding period. But, it is reasonable to have emergency funds first before investing in other financial instruments.

Well it's not just Filipinos naman, 60-75% of Americans don't have savings (most have less than 500 in emergency funds), and average American household has 17k in debt. So most Americans are actually are net worth negative.

If you think about it Filipinos, where income is hard to come by for most, it's not surprising.

I use to think 'oh maybe it's the financial infrastructure' as I've encouraged banking here in the past...but that's not it either because obviously the financial infrastructure of US still many Americans don't, meanwhile poor African countries like Equatorial Guinea has close to twice (now I don't know the actual numbers perhaps it's is eschewed by statistical inadequacies) that says it has twice savings rate than Philippines.

I think really it's 'one' thing ie culture or infrastructure or economics....it's combination of all.
