Duterte: 'My state of health is immaterial'

President Rodrigo Duterte dismissed concerns about his health as he said Vice President Leni Robredo can always take over in case he dies or falls into a coma.

"Do not worry. There is a Vice President who will take over. My state of health is immaterial," Duterte said in an interview with reporters in Butuan City on Saturday, June 17.

Duterte ended the interview by addressing his political opponents: "Magdasal na lang kayo (You can just pray)."

Yup... that is whats the VP is for... but unfortunately... thats only applicable if the VP is on the same side as the Pres.

If the Pres dies, does that automatically make his cabinet secretaries resigned or deem vacant? I dont think so, Leni will assume as President as part of succession but the Secretaries will out her.. Maybe she will be President for few hours before getting kicked out by the Cabinet.

...see, thats how stupid the 1987 Constitution is.

Can you cite any reference that if the President dies, the CabSec are automatically considered resigned? Remember that the line of succession leads all the way to the very last cabinet secretary... US even have a "designated survivor" role for one of the Cabinet Sec.

Even if Leni takes her oath of office... The Cabinet is still on position until they tender their courtesy resignations. Digong's Cabinet can declare her "unfit".. Ofcourse Leni will fight, but who will the Military follows in that scenario?

This is nonsense. The line of succession, if you're referring to the one for the Presidency, does not include Cabinet secretaries. The Constitution is clear.

Cabinet secretaries, as we've heard before, serve at the pleasure of the President. If Robredo becomes President, she can appoint her own Cabinet.

Siguro yung cine noon sa US with Martin Landau as president and Rebecca De Mornay as a bomber pilot. The US was in a nuclear war with the Russians and the only one left was a minor cabinet member who liked to spend his time in Las Vegas (doon sya sinundo ng Secret Service.)

Sa Philippine Constitution lang ang loyalty ng military, at ang sabi sa Philippine Constitution, ang VP ang nasa line of succession ng President. Palaging nasa commander-in-chief na sinasabi sa constitution ang loyalty nila.

At isa pa, walang power ang cabinet secretaries na magdeclare na unfit ang President (in this case, si Leni). Walang ganun!
