Isaiah's Bird of Prey: Cyrus the Great or Felix Manalo?

Isaiah 46
11 From the east I summon a bird of prey;
from a far-off land, a man to fulfill my purpose.
What I have said, that I will bring about;
what I have planned, that I will do.
12 Listen to me, you stubborn-hearted,
you who are now far from my righteousness.
13 I am bringing my righteousness near,
it is not far away;
and my salvation will not be delayed.
I will grant salvation to Zion,
my splendor to Israel.

INC admits that the context was Cyrus. But argues some sort of 'difference' when the Bird of Prey was mentioned:
THE RAVENOUS BIRD

The ravenous bird will execute God’s counsel… Is. 46:11
God’s counsel is to bring his righteousness and salvation to those who are stouthearted and far from righteousness… Is. 46:11-13
The ravenous bird will snatch people out of the fire… Jude 1:23
This is God’s counsel… Is. 46:13
The name of the ravenous bird, a man, is not mentioned… Is. 46:11

CYRUS

Cyrus shall perform all of God’s pleasure… Is. 44:28
God’s pleasure is that Jerusalem be built and the temple’s foundation be laid. Cyrus, king of Persia did this… Ezra 1:1-11
Cyrus is to subdue nations before him… Is. 45:1
The kingdoms of the earth were given to Cyrus… Ezra 1:3
Cyrus’ name is mentioned in the prophecy… Is. 44:28, 45:1

These are merely some of the differences between the ravenous bird and Cyrus

INC failed or is deliberately suppressing the biblical and historical facts that Cyrus actually fulfilled God's councel of bringing salvation to Israel....

1. Historical Proof:

250px-Cyrus_Cylinder.jpg
The Cyrus cylinder, which confirms that Cyrus allowed captives in Babylon to return to their native lands, earning him an honored place in Judaism.

2. Biblical Proof:

Isaiah 45:1
“This is what the Lord says to his anointed,
to Cyrus
, whose right hand I take hold of
to subdue nations before him
and to strip kings of their armor,
to open doors before him
so that gates will not be shut:

Isaiah specifically named Cyrus as God's MESSIAH.
A Messiah is someone destined to bring salvation to Israel.

Cyrus the Messiah
by Lisbeth S. Fried
Many people are anointed in the Hebrew Bible, and many are referred to as the messiah or anointed one. The high priest is called the anointed priest (Lev 4:3). God tells Elijah to anoint two different men as kings of their people: Hazael as king of Aram (1Kgs 19:15) and Jehu son of Nimshi as king over Israel. God also instructs Elijah to anoint his own successor, Elisha son of Shaphat, as prophet (1Kgs 19:16). At this point, the term messiah or anointed one did not refer to the apocalyptic savior of humankind.

The Persian emperor Cyrus is the only foreigner in the Bible to be identified as the messiah or anointed one of Yahweh, the Israelite God. Isaiah tells us that Yahweh spoke “to his messiah, to Cyrus, whom I [Yahweh] took by his right hand to subdue nations before him” (Isa 45:1). The other people called messiah or anointed one in the Bible aren’t designated Yahweh’s messiah, as Cyrus is.

The biblical writers - scribes who were back from exile were quick to arrogate the famous Persian emperor as a tool of salvation by their god. Presumptuous Jews! Cyrus had been using cultural acceptance as a political tool in dealings not just with Jews but with many other peoples under the Persian empire. Feeling important lang ang mga Jews. They invented a prophecy that Cyrus the Great was under the command of their god, hahhaa.

Now, nothing will prevent the INC from arrogsting that same prophecy for Felix Manalo. A fake prophecy remains fake however it is used.

  • FELIX MANALO: The true story of a man who locked himself in a room for three days

March 27 2017 at 6:33 PM Sebastian Rauffenburg (Login Sebastian_Rauffenburg)

    True Story:

Once upon a time, "before the ends of the earth, hahah" there was a man from Taguig, Rizal. A short 5'4" Filipino man whose name was Felix Manalo. One day in November of 1913, he locked himself in a very humid dark room in Eusebio Sunga's house for a 3 days and 3 nights, without food, water or sleep. Have you ever gone without sleep for 72 hours? What about without food or water?

Well Felix did, and he came out alive and coherent to claim he was God's chosen! Yes, that he was chosen by God. (You can't make this stuff up).

For three days and nights. He overcame hunger, thirst and sleep for three days straight locked in this room. He didn't even so much as leave this dark room to go urinate or poop. So I can imagine how disgusting the room must have been during his "intensive study" time and conversation with God.(Seriously, you can't make this stuff up...all true so far)

If my friend locked himself in a room and he emerged three days later smelling like a homeless man telling me, "I know what God wants me to do, because I am chosen". I would call 911! Because my dear Felix has just gone "over the edge" of insanity, suffering from mental illness.

Yet here we in 2017, with logical thinking adults who are devout INC members actually believing a 5'4" thin Filipino would lock himself in a room with his own excrement near-by in a hot, humid, toxic filled room (because of the poo-poo and urine) and come out perfectly normal? If Felix Manalo were alive today telling his story of how God called, he would get a one-way ticket to the loony-bin.

And they call us "crazy" because we left the church and decided to use that brain God gave you. Whose "crazy" now.

  • Prophecy: God's Last Messenger

“Calling a bird of prey from the east, the man who executes my counsel, from a far country. Indeed I have spoken it; I will also bring it to pass. I have purposed it; I will also do it.” Isa. 46:11

The prophecy also tells us whom God would use as his instrument in bringing his children from the Far east into the church of Christ. In Isa. 46:11, it was prophesied:

“Calling a bird of prey from the east, the man who executes my counsel, from a far country. Indeed I have spoken it; I will also bring it to pass. I have purposed it; I will also do it.”

God’s instrument is a messenger who is likened to a bird of prey or to a ravenous bird. God would call him from a far country in the east or the Far east to execute messenger is likened to a ravenous bird because the people—god’s sons and daughters—to whom he was sent are being held back by “the north” and “the south”.

That’s why God said, “I will say to the north, give them up! And to the south, Do not keep them back!” The north and the south that are holding back God’s people signify the two large and dominant religions from where the sons and daughters of God would be taken out through the instrumentality of the messenger. They are Catholicism and Protestantism as can be gleaned from the book The reformation:

“… In the north the Protestants were in control—Lutheran churches in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, the northern and central states of Germany; Calvinist or reformed churches in Scotland, the Netherlands, Hesse, The Palatine and a few of the western German states. In the south the Catholics were in control—Spain, Italy, Austria, Bavaria, and elsewhere in southern Germany.” (p.366)

Protestantism, which dominates the north and the Catholic Church, which dominates the south represent the north and south, respectively. From these two religions, the sons and the daughters of God would be snatched out by the messenger, thus, he is likened to a bird of prey. As a fulfillment of the prophecy, majority of those who became members of the Church of Christ in these last days came from the Catholic Church and protestant denominations.

    The ‘worm Jacob’
The humble beginnings of the messenger of god and his work in these last days is being reflected by the phrase “worm Jacob” in Isa. 41:14 “Fear not, you worm Jacob, you men of Israel! I will help you, says the Lord”

Jacob, a son of Isaac, was not the one being prophesied here through, because when this prophecy was declared, he was long dead (Gen. 49:33). The one signified by the phrase “worm Jacob” is a “new threshing sledge” (Isa. 41:14-15). And God also declared that when the new thing would come, the former or old things should no longer be remembered:

“Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing…” Isa. 43:18-19

The old or former thing is ancient Israel, the first nation of God (Isa. 44:7). He has “given Jacob [or Israel] to the curse” (Isa. 43:28). Hence, Israel ceased to continue as his nation. This is why God said that he would make “a new thing”. That is his commissioning of the messenger ascribed as “worm Jacob” in the prophecy of Isaiah.

‘From the ends of the earth’
When would this new ‘Jacob’ emerge as prophesied? From “the ends of the earth” as stated in a verse preceding Isa. 41:14.

“You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, And called from its farthest regions, and said to you, ‘you are my servant, I have chosen you and have not cast you away’.”

The “ends of the earth” is equivalent to what Christ referred to as the time when the end of the world is near, “at the doors” (Matt. 24:33). When his disciples asked him when the end of the world or his second coming would take place, He said: “when you see all these things”, that is, the signs of his coming, then, “[the end] is near—at the doors” (matt. 24:33). One of the signs given by Christ that the end of the world is near or that the time is already at the “ends of the earth” is that there would be a war that would be rumored or heard around the world (Matt. 24:6-8).

    FULFILLMENT

The fulfillment of this is the first world war which broke out on July 27,1914. This was the time when the “worm Jacob” would be called by god (Isa.41:14). Fulfillment in the person of Brother Felix Manalo who first preached the Iglesia Ni Cristo in the Philippines and had it registered with the government on July 27, 1914.

But others insist that the Jacob prophesied in Isa. 41:14 is the seed or descendant of Abraham as stated in verse 8.

How can be Brother Felix Manalo be the seed of Abraham if he is a Filipino?

One should understand that in the Christian era, those who are counted as the seed of Abraham are not the children in the flesh but “the children of the promise” as pointed out in Rom. 9:6-8:

“But it is not that the word of God has taken no effect. For they are not all Israel who are of Israel, nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but ‘In Isaac your seed shall be called’. That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed.”

In relation to this, Apostle Paul taught that Christ is the one and only seed of Abraham (Gal. 3:16). But, if Christ is the one and only seed of Abraham, how can anyone else be counted as the seed of Abraham? Apostle Paul said that “if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise” (Gal. 3:29).

The ones belonging to Christ are the members of the Church He built, His church (Matt. 16:18) or the Church of Christ (Acts 20:28). Hence, they are counted as Abraham’s descendants according to the promise. This is why the messenger of God in these last days was ascribed in the prophecy as Jacob, seed of Abraham, not in the flesh but according to the promise.

    God’s covenant transcended

The following prophecies show that god also bestowed upon his messenger in these last days that which he bestowed upon Abraham, Jacob’s forebear:

“You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called from its farthest regions, And is said to you, ‘you are my servant, I have chosen you and have not cast you away: Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous hand’.” Isa. 41:9-10

The one prophesied in these verses has the covenant of God. God said to him: “You are my servant… I am your God.” Likewise, God told Abraham:

“I will keep my promise to you and to you and to your descendants in future generations as an everlasting covenant. I will be your God and the God of your descendants.” Gen. 17:7

Hence, the covenant of god made with Abraham and his seed transcended to God’s messenger in these last days, thereby granting him and his converts the exclusive privilege to serve and worship god.

    Why ‘worm Jacob’?

God’s messenger in these last days is called ‘worm Jacob’ because he was mocked, belittled, and despised by the people just like Christ, who is alluded to as “a worm” and would be “scorned by men and despised by the people” (Ps. 22:6-7). Indeed, harsh were the insults and severe were the persecutions hurdled against Brother Felix Manalo and the Iglesia Ni Critso especially during its early years.

But, how would God’s help and strength be manifested to his messenger who is called “worm Jacob”? the prophecy states: “Behold, I will make you into a new threshing sledge with sharp teeth; you shall thresh the mountains and beat them, and make the hills like chaff” (Isa. 41:15)

The “sharp teeth” or instrument that god’s messenger in these last days would use in carrying out his missions are god’s words described as “living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword” (Heb. 4:12). The “mountains” represent kings or kingdoms (Rev. 17:9-10), “rulers of darkness” or the false religions in this world (Eph. 6:12).

    FULFILLMENT

As the fulfillment, the messenger of God in these last days was able to triumphantly persuade many people to come out of false religions and join the true church. All the tirades and criticism that were unrelentingly marshaled against Iglesia Ni Cristo failed to prevent its rise. While at first, this church would be ignored, hated, and deserted, god promised to make it great:

“You will no longer be forsaken and hated, A city deserted and desolated. I will make you beautiful, a place of joy forever and ever.” Isa. 60:15

Brother Felix Manalo looked beyond what was merely apparent and humanly possible. He held on to these promises of God. And the Almighty kept them.

    Glowing testimonies
Here are some of the numerous testimonies of neutral observers who are non-members of the church. In 1983, Manila Magazine reported:

“Iglesia ni Cristo: from ridicule to reverence”

“Felix Manalo formally started the INC in a makeshift bamboo chapel… he and the church were ridiculed and looked upon with scorn by the predominantly Catholic populace. …But gallant as he was, Manalo preserved though all the mockery.”

“Slowly, the Iglesia ni Cristo gained recognition and following that unbelievably spread afar and wide, around the country and all the way to the west.” (p.33)

Dr. Robert Reed of the university of California, in the US, in his work published in 1990 said:
“… the INC has been transformed into the most dynamic and powerful indigenous belief system in the Philippines. Growing at a phenomenal rate… this upstart community of faith may have recently surpassed Islam as the nation’s second largest religion. …Indeed, the INC… may be the most successful form of ‘Indigenous Christianity’ emanating from the Third world in this century.” (Patterns of Migration in Southeast Asia, pp. 154-155)

In 2001, Dr. Reed updated on the Iglesia Ni Cristo, describing its spread and progress worldwide as “from an obscure Philippines faith to a global belief system.” Its strides, even in the US, “has been nothing less that spectacular” (Journal of the Humanities and school Sciences of southeast Asia and Oceania, 2001)

    [and etc…]

All these, including the success of the social and educational programs of the church and more importantly, the strong faith of its members in thousands of local congregations throughout the world who are now rendering the true worship to god, helping spread the message of salvation and supporting all the endeavors of the church, are proofs that the ‘worm Jacob’ has triumphed!

‘Our glorious power is from God’
Considering the fulfillment of God’s promised wondrous works for this Church, we, Iglesia ni Cristo members, acknowledge that “our glorious power is from God and is not our own” (II Cor. 4:7)

Though today, while most of mankind are grieving in helplessness, we, the recipients of a priceless spiritual heritage, make these declarations of faith and resolve of the Psalmist also our own.

“My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.” Ps. 121:2

“…You have been my strength and protection. That is why I can never stop praising you; I declare your glory all day long.” Ps. 71:7-8

Our exultation in the triumphs of this church leads us to thank and praise God and to be faithful to him even more. We look forward to where the glorious state of the church will reach, thus: “Your sun will never set again, and your moon will wane no more; the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your days of sorrow will end” (Isa. 60:20). This refers to the certainly of our salvation—our most important glory.

  • THE EMERGENCE OF the Iglesia Ni Cristo in the Philippines fulfills the prophecies of God written in the Bible concerning His sons and daughters whom He will call from the Far East in these last days (cf. Isaiah 43:5-6 and Moffatt; 41:9-15; 46:11-13; Acts 2:39; John 10:16; Revelation 7:2-3). These biblical prophecies have also pointed to a servant of God whom He will send to lead God’s chosen people from the ends of the earth:

"Thou whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the chief men thereof, and said unto thee, THOU ART MY SERVANT; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away. Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." (Isaiah 41:9-10 KJV, enphasis mine)

God said to His “servant” whom He “have taken from the ends of the earth” that “I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away.” Another biblical prophecy points out that God’s messenger from the ends of the earth will came from “a far country” in the East, or the Far East:

"Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it. Hearken unto me, ye stouthearted, that are far from righteousness: I bring near my righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not tarry: and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory." (Isaiah 46:11-13 KJV)

The “ravenous bird from the east” mentioned in Isaiah 46:11 is also the the man that executeth God’s counsel from a far country. Through him, God will bring near His righteousness. Thus, the messenger of God from the ends of the earth, from the Far East, is a preacher of the Gospel for the righteousness of God that He will bring near to the people through this messenger is the the Gospel which is also the power of God to salvation:

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, ‘The just shall live by faith.’" (Romans 1:16-17 NKJV)

Brother Felix Y. Manalo is the messenger of God from the ends of the earth and from the Far East, whom God sent to perform this task. God has given His messenger the assurances that He will help and strengthen him un pursuing such noble task in the face of tremendous odds and difficulties. God said to Him:

"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." (Isaiah 41:10 KJV)

The growth and development of the Iglesia Ni Cristo from its humble beginnings to its present dynamic stature, attest to the fulfillment of these prophecies. The membership of the Church increased at a phenomenal rate from a handful of adherents gathered in its pioneering years to the millions now scattered in many parts of the world.

The houses of worship that the Church has built has effectively changed the Philippine landscape which the Catholic Church used to dominate. The iglesia Ni Cristo houses of worship now can also be seen in different parts of the world where the Church gained a foothold.

The power of the unity of the Church members, their vitality in their practice of religion, their fidelity to the doctrines taught to them, and their unswerving resolve to surmount all difficulties are indications of a vibrant faith – the result of the preaching functions of the late Brother Felix Y. Manalo.

  • Various are the ways and means employed by the enemies of tryth in order to hinder people from accepting the commission of Bro. Felix Manalo as God’s last messenger. We sincerely believe that Bro. Felix Manalo is the fulfillment of the prophecy mentioned in Isaiah 46:11.

Lately, our critics have found, allegedly, a prima facie evidence to prove that Cyrus is the fulfillment of Isaiah’s concerning the ravenous bird. The evidence, they aver, is Isaiah 46:11 itself. They cite The living bible thus: ”I will call the swift bird of prey from the east—that man Cyrus from far away.”

At first glance, it seems that our critics are justified in believing that Cyrus is the ravenous bird mentioned by the Prophet Isaiah. Our readers must take note of the fact that our detractors conveniently used Isaiah 46:11 of the living bible which was translated in a paraphrase style.

What are paraphrases, by the way? “To paraphrase is to say something in different words than the author used. It is a restatement of an author’s thoughts, using different words than he did.” (Preface, The living Bible) Take note to that, Is there any danger in this style of translation? “There are dangers in paraphrases, as well as values. For whenever the author’s exact words are not translated from the original languages, there is a possibility that the translator, however honest, may be giving the English reader something that the original writer did not mean to say.”

If there is danger whenever the author’s exact words are not translated from the original language, thus giving the readers something the original writer did not mean to say, how much more when the translator inserted something that the original author did not say.

Most of the translations and versions of the bible do not contain the name Cyrus as far as Isaiah 46:11 is concerned. The conclusion is inevitable—the name Cyrus was inserted by the translator of The living bible. Such an actuation is extremely dangerous.

We are not against from The living bible or any translations or versions of the bible per se, but we reject and do not use any verse erroneously translated.
Is our rejection of Cyrus as the alleged fulfillment of Isaiah 46:11 merely based on our refusal to accept Isaiah 46:11 of the living bible because it was erroneously translated? What differentiate the Ravenous bird from Cyrus?

These are merely some of the differences between the ravenous bird and Cyrus. The conclusion is inevitable: Cyrus is not the ravenous bird mentioned in Isaiah 46:11. Who then is the fulfillment? We sincerely believe Bro. Felix Manalo is the fulfillment of the said prophecy. We will therefore proceed to unravel the prophecy and to show its fulfillment.

Let us quote Isaiah 46:11-13, King james Version:

“Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.”
“Hearken unto me, ye stouthearted, that are far from righteousness:”
“I will bring near my righteousness; it shall not be far off, and salvation shall not tarry; and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory.”

Who are the stouthearted or hard –hearted and are far from righteousness? Certainly not Israel although they were hard-hearted for them belonged to covenants, giving of the law, the right to serve God, and the promises (Rom. 9:4). For the benefit of Israel, Cyrus’ spirit was moved by God to build him a house at Jerusalem (Ezra 1:1-11). Who then, are not only stouthearted but are also far from righteousness? The gentiles: “You were not born Jewish. You are the people the Jews call "uncircumcised."Those who call you "uncircumcised" call themselves "circumcised." (Their circumcision is only something they themselves do on their bodies.) Remember that in the past you were without Christ. You were not citizens of Israel, and you had no part in the agreements with the promise that God made to his people. You had no hope, and you did not know God.” Eph. 2:11-12

The Ravenous bird from the east is actually a man from a far country. He is, therefore, from the far east. This is supported by a related prophecy in Isaiah 43:5-6 wherein it is stated that God’s chosen messenger and his seed are from the far east:

“Don't be afraid, because I am with you. I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west.I will tell the north: Give my people to me. I will tell the south: Don't keep my people in prison. Bring my sons from far away and my daughters from faraway places.”
Students of history will readily admit that Cyrus is from Persia (presently called Iran) a country geographically located in the middle east, (webster’s new world dictionary of the American language) another proof that Cyrus is not the Ravenous bird prophesied by Isaiah 46:11.

By the name will the seed from the far East, the object of God’s counsel to be performed by the Ravenous bird, be called? They will be called by the name by God for his glory (Isa. 43: 5-7). The name Christ is for God’s glory (Acts 2:36; Philip. 2:9-11) How is the name Christ called upon the beneficiaries of God’s counsel, that is, his righteousness and salvation? They are called Church of Christ (Acts 20:28, Lamsa). The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation and God’s righteousness is revealed therein. The ravenous bird , therefore, is a preacher of the gospel and not a subduer of nations as Cyrus was, another glaring proof that Cyrus is not that Ravenous bird.

The time element involved in the prophecy concerning the ravenous bird and his seed from the far east, recognized by God as his sons and daughters, is ends of the earth. The end of the earth is Christ’s second coming (Mt. 24:3). So, when is the ends of the earth? “In the same way, when you see all these things happening, you will know that the time is near, ready to come.” Mt. 24:33 Which are the things to be seen heralding that the end of the earth is near, things that will happen during the ends of the earth?

“You will hear about wars and stories of wars that are coming, but don't be afraid. These things must happen before the end comes. Nations will fight against other nations; kingdoms will fight against other kingdoms. There will be times when there is no food for people to eat, and there will be earthquakes in different places. These things are like the first pains when something new is about to be born.” Mt. 24:6-8

And all these referring to the First World war that started on July 27, 1914 is the time where the Church of Christ registered on the Philippine government.

    1. Historical Proof:

    https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/35/Cyrus_Cylinder.jpg/250px-Cyrus_Cylinder.jpg
The Cyrus cylinder, which confirms that Cyrus allowed captives in Babylon to return to their native lands, earning him an honored place in Judaism.

We do not deny that Cyrus, indeed, released captives in Babylon which is OPPOSITE of the "Bird of Prey". To prey means to "snatch" and imprison which is what FYM exactly did, he snatched God's people trapped in the false religions of RCC (south) and Protestant (North) and "imprison" them in the true church, INC! ;)

Cyrus' work is DIFFERENT from FYM. Cyrus was to release all Jewish captives so they can return to Israel. I BELIEVE (on my own) that this was done so Jesus Christ will be born in Israel and not in Babylon.

FYM is to "return Israel to salvation", meaning return God's people to God through the true teachings.

Remember that Cyrus is Pagan and not a religious leader. FYM is a religious leader SENT by God and Jesus Christ as attested by prophecies in the bible. :)

This is not the type of salvation that God means when He sent Jesus Christ. Cyrus' "salvation" is simply freeing Israelites from Babylon. The kind of salvation by Christ through His messenger FYM is the one in the kingdom of heaven.

Who anointed felix manalo? Who declared him a messiah? Wala manloloko lang yun![/QUOTE]

FYM is definitely not a messiah, he never proclaimed that, neither did any of the succeeding executive ministers nor even the ordinary ministers. He was a messenger of God's truth through Christ's body or church in these last days.
