Greatest Performance by an Actor in a Movie - EVER?

My votes go to George C. Scott as Patton in Patton and Marlon Brando as Don Corleone in the Godfather. Coincidentally, both actors refused their awards.

  • My personal favorite is Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. He's acting like a convict who's acting like a mental patient who ends up not acting at all in the final moments of the movie. Very moving performance...

It's really hard to choose one. Thanks to Aragorn for reminding me about Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest - great performance indeed. I liked John Malkovich and Dustin Hoffman in Of Mice and Men. (Did I get the actors right?) And I absolutely loved Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman in Shawshank Redemption.
  • Marlon Brando in 'The Godfather', Anthony Hopkins & Jodie Foster in 'Silence of the Lambs', Robert De Niro in 'Taxi Driver', Ed Norton in 'Primal Fear', Dustin Hoffman in 'Rainman', Kathy Bates in 'Misery', Al Pacino in 'Scent of a Woman', Robin Williams in 'Dead Poets Society'...shiyet dami pa, i would have listed more pero andito na mga asungot so i'll post again later.

  • robert de niro in raging bull.
jack nicholson in a few, good men, kahit natalo siya and kahit hindi siya ang bida.

gary sinise ata sa of mice and men (but im not voting for him, i find his acting there so-so).

  • kmunster dear,

yup dustin hoffman won the golden globe for best performance by an actor in a motion picture - comedy or musical. that was in 1983, but he lost to ben kingsley (gandhi) in the 1982 oscars.

    caramba:
I think Dustin H. and John M. were together in a play turned to a movie called "Death of a Salesman" by Arthur Miller and both had renowned performances. I think it was Gary Sinise in "Of Mice and Men".

My pick would be Jack Nickolson in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". Another oldy that I say during one of my english classes was Sir Lawrence Olivier in Hamlet.

    Peace.

  • ???§ÎNNëÐ??? darling,

TY for the info...hey i watched Gandhi also...nice movie, kinda boring in some parts but the guy who played gandhi (Ben Kingsley was it?) was great. he deserved the award :)

  • there's this movie na sobrang galing but i forgot the actor and the title na. sinned, help me on this one. it's about this son na pianist siya, where his father pounds on him rachmaninoff's masterpiece, until finally nagbreakdown na siya... corny ng summary ko but the movie is good.
  • Are you talking about Shine - the movie about David Helfgott's life? You are right, Geoffrey Rush was pretty good in that pic. He was also pretty good as Javert in the movie adaptation of Les Miserables.

  • b.u....nakana mo!
  • Tim Robbins and Morgan Fairchild
    of Shawshank Redemption
Kevin Bacon Of Murder in the First
    Kevin Spacey and Samuel Jackson
    of The Negotiator
and watch for Jim Carey in the movie
    Man in the Moon
  • yup Paruparo - the Aussie actor Geoffrey Rush in Shine. He won the Oscars Best Actor in a Leading Role in 1996 beating Tom Cruise (Jerry Maguire), the next favorite actor to win that year, I think.

jinx, umm you mean Morgan Freeman? By the way, Mr. Freeman was nominated for his role in that Shawshank Redemption movie. Tom Hanks(Forrest Gump) won. The year was 1994.

The best performance by an actor ever is by Christopher Reeves in that "Rear Window" remake wherein he plays a guy paralyzed from the neck down. Galing ng self control niya, he never moved (not even once) all through out the movie. He really played the paraplegic(?) role to a T!!!

Leonardo Di Caprio's acting in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" I thought was really good!

Sally Field did a really good job in "Steel Magnolias". Gosh, I cried my eyeballs out!
