rehab from drug/alcohol abuse

has anyone, or do you know anyone, who has undergone rehab from drug or alcohol abuse?

is it really effective? does it really help?

how do you convince someone to undergo rehab if he's not willing or if he thinks he doesn't need it, when he actually does?

where's a good institution for this?

please share any info, your insights, ideas, or maybe experiences...

The person himself has to commit to forego alcohol and/or drugs!

No rehab can claim being successful of "curing"someone. The person must deal with it himself!

Try seeing the movie "28 Days" with Sandra Bullock as the alcoholic! She was terrific, specially so, because she is a very beautiful woman and her portrayal of an alcoholic makes her look ugly and disgusting, not in the superficial, physical way but in her attitude towards others. Alcoholics should relate to this movie and realize why non-alcoholics sort of dislike them.

ok... that's hard.... coz i'm not the one involved... i just want to help someone really close to me.. but the problem is, i don't think he wants to be helped...

Hi puffgirl, that's tough. The first thing that you need for someone to go through successful rehabilitation is acceptance. The person should know that he has a problem, and should accept that he needs help.

I honestly don't know how to convince someone so I'll just wait for the replies of the others.

yun na nga e... i think he should want to be helped too...
    mahirap yan in our case...

anyway, at least can you tell me if you've experienced it
or do you know of anyone who has? does it really help?

    How's your friend?

some were helped and some were not. depende yan sa tao rin if he or she is determined to be helped. pag di niya matanggal sa system niya yung drugs and alcohol medyo mahirap yun. i've known a friend who's been in and out of rehabs. walang effect. make sure he stays at a drug and alcohol free environment and friends who are good influences.
