Spider-Man spinoff Venom coming to movie theaters in 2018

[center-hidden]venom.0.jpg[/center-hidden]
Sony Pictures is bringing Spider-Man’s longtime nemesis Venom to movie theaters in a stand-alone film next year. Venom will be hit theaters Oct. 5, 2018, according to a report from Variety.

Venom was one of a handful of Spider-Man-related projects in the works at Sony prior to a deal struck with Marvel Studios to bring the webslinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While other projects, like a movie based on the supervillain team Sinister Six, were scrapped, Venom has persisted in some form of development through the years.

It’s not clear whether the 2018 Venom movie will take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or if it will feature Tom Holland’s take on Spider-Man. Spider-Man: Homecoming, the next stand-alone Spidey film, hits theaters July 7, 2017. Holland signed on for at least five appearances as the wallcrawler.

The character of Venom officially debuted in 1988 in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man. Venom is an alien symbiote — originally believed to be a harmless costume worn by Spider-Man — that bonds with a human host. Venom hosts have included Peter Parker’s rivals Eddie Brock and Flash Thompson, as well as the supervillain formerly known as the Scorpion, Mac Gargan.

Venom made an appearance in the movie Spider-Man 3. Actor Topher Grace played the role of Eddie Brock and Venom in Sam Raimi’s 2007 film.

Tom Hardy to Star in ‘Spider-Man’ Movie ‘Venom,’ Ruben Fleischer to Direct

    tom-hardy-venom-spiderman.jpg

Tom Hardy will star in Sony’s long-awaited “Spider-Man” spinoff “Venom,” with “Zombieland” helmer Ruben Fleischer on board to direct.

While “Spider-Man: Homecoming” is still two months away from opening, Sony is acting quickly to build its extended universe, which starts with the “Venom” movie.

Although the studio has been meeting with directors for some time, the actor selection process sped up after Hardy exited J.C. Chandor’s action-thriller “Triple Frontier,” and Sony saw an opportunity to go after an in-demand talent.

Fleischer showcased his ability to bring together dark themes with humor in “Zombieland” and according to sources, Hardy is a huge fan of Venom.

Hardy’s only previous film in the superhero genre is 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises,” in which he played another villain, Bane.

Scott Rosenberg (“Jumanji”) and Jeff Pinkner (“The Dark Tower”) will write the script for “Venom,” with Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach producing the movie, along with Amy Pascal. Palak Patel and Eric Fineman are overseeing the project for Columbia Pictures.

“Venom” is set to hit theaters on Oct. 5, 2018.

Since its inception in 1988, Venom has been one of “Spider-Man’s” most popular characters, making it a top priority for the studio to get a movie off the ground. The character is an alien symbiote that needs a human host to survive. The alien vests its victim with incredible powers. Venom made his first big-screen appearance in Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man 3,” where he was portrayed by Topher Grace.

Throughout the history of Marvel Comics, Venom has appeared alongside Spider-Man, Iron Man, Deadpool, Hulk, and many other Marvel Comics characters.

Hardy most recently starred in the FX series “Taboo” and can be seen next in Christopher Nolan’s World War II epic “Dunkirk.” He is repped by CAA and United Agents.

The film marks Fleischer’s first major tentpole since signing with CAA last year. He has primarily been working in the TV world, specifically on the Netflix’s “Santa Clarita Diet.” He is also currently developing a sequel to “Zombieland.”

He is also repped by Management 360.

Hardy posted a photo of himself in a Venom T-shirt.

FANS `WELCOMED' TO THE SET OF “VENOM” IN NEW FEATURETTE
    via press release

Tom Hardy and Director Ruben Fleischer welcome you to the set of Columbia Pictures' upcoming super hero movie, Venom.

The Studio has just released new footage from the Brazil Comic-Con panel last month, showing Fleischer and Hardy from the Venom set in Atlanta.

Check out the newly released featurette and watch Venom in Philippine cinemas this 2018.

One of Marvel's most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.

Venom will be the first film out of the gate from Sony’s Marvel Universe after Spider-Man: Homecoming. The film will be released worldwide on October 5, 2018 and is now in post- production.

Scott Rosenberg (Jumanji) and Jeff Pinkner (The Dark Tower) wrote the script for Venom, with Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Amy Pascal as producers. Palak Patel and Eric Fineman oversaw the production for Columbia Pictures.

Venom is one of the most popular superheroes in the Marvel Universe and is unique because Eddie Brock is able to converse and have a relationship with the symbiote, which culminates to him becoming Venom.

Throughout the history of Marvel Comics, Venom has appeared alongside Spider-Man, Iron Man, Deadpool, Hulk, and many other Marvel Comics characters.

Venom is distributed in the Philippines by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

Maybe the Sony Spider-verse and the MCU aren't that disconnected after all?

Sony's standalone Venom movie has been said to be completely separate from Tom Holland's Spider-Man that appears in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, leaving many comic fans wondering just how you could tell a Venom story without some kind of Spider-Man. Fortunately, it looks like we may not have to find out.

Scooper Jon Schnepp appeared on the most recent episode of Collider Movie Talk this week, and informed the hosts that Tom Holland's Spider-Man, which was most recently seen in Spider-Man: Homecoming last July, is set to make an appearance in the Tom Hardy-starring Venom film, which is currently in production.

"I'm gonna say it right here on this show, Spider-Man is gonna be in Venom," Schnepp revealed. "For the last couple months, we've been talking about Venom, we've been hearing about how Sony's keeping it all separated. Spider-Man's in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but every other character that's in the Spider-Man universe is separate."

When Schnepp was asked if the appearance of Spider-Man might be a cameo, he hinted that it might even be more than that.

"Like a cameo, like a who-knows-what-eo," Schnepp answered. "All I'm sayin' is Spider-Man, and I'm talkin' about Tom Holland's Spider-Man, is gonna be in Venom."

As far as whether or not the Spider-Man appearance will come during the actual film or as some kind of post-credits scene, Schnepp said that he "couldn't answer that at this time."

If Holland's Spider-Man does appear in the film, the speculation can begin as to whether or not Sony's Venom will have some kind of connection to the MCU. All of the Spider-Man characters' rights still belong to Sony, but they have a deal with Marvel Studios for Spider-Man himself, along with others, to appear in MCU films.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer and starring Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Jenny Slate and Woody Harrelson, Venom is set to hit theaters on October 5.

TOM HARDY TRANSFORMS INTO “VENOM” IN RIP-ROARING THRILLER

Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy (Dunkirk, The Revenant, Mad Max: Fury Road) stars as dedicated journalist Eddie Brock, in Columbia Pictures’ new action-thriller Venom, one of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters.

At the center of Venom is not one but two antiheroes in one body: Eddie – the ego-driven, obsessive reporter driven to expose the powerful and corrupt – and Venom, the chilling alien symbiote with incredible superpowers who fuses with Eddie.  Together, they are capable of anything – a terrifying proposition as Venom is fueled by rage.  In a truly symbiotic relationship, they will influence each other, for better or worse…

When director Ruben Fleischer – a Sony Pictures success story with his cult hit Zombieland -- took the helm as Venom’s director, the producers knew they had someone with a full grip on how Marvel’s most badass character could make for a rip-roaring movie unlike any other. But the Venom filmmakers also realized that it would take a talented actor to straddle both the personalities of Venom and Eddie Brock.

They got more than they hoped for when critically acclaimed actor Tom Hardy – the man behind some of the most complicated characters in modern film – signed on to star.

Fleischer sees Hardy as a man of the moment, an actor of his time. Says Fleischer, “Tom is one of the all-time great actors, just so inherently talented and captivating on film. He’s a real movie star, and he is in his prime right now, firing on all cylinders, and brings so much to every look, every moment, every detail, every word.”

Fleischer continues, “He’s just really inspiring. And I think everybody on the crew is just fully invested in how he’s chosen to realize Eddie Brock. And on top of all that, Tom is hilarious, and that was exactly what we needed to bring Venom to life for moviegoers.”

Hardy says that the idea of symbiosis – needing each other to survive – is built into the characters of Eddie and Venom.  “There was a lot of range to play within the psychological dynamics of this superhero movie,” he says. “And I found that to be exciting because it is multi-personality; one is a human character and the other is an alien. I get to play opposite a seven-foot-tall creature. And Eddie Brock has to handle that living inside him. The two of them have a union in one. ‘We are Venom,’ is their mantra.”

Hardy was especially excited about playing this particular character.  “Venom is cool, man – he’s a badass. My son was telling me all about him – he loves Venom.  He’s is a great character to play because Venom is ruthless and, basically, there are no rules.  He’s so complex.”

Venom’s beginnings are the kind every comic creator dreams of: the brash introduction that sparks its own expansive life, thrilling fans every step of the way. Since his first full appearance thirty years ago in The Amazing Spider-Man comic book issue #300, Venom’s supervillain persona has become one of the most intriguing and entertaining for Marvel’s dedicated readers.

Initially Venom was portrayed in the Spider-Man comic books as the kind of terrifying antagonist readers would be afraid of, but the opposite happened. Fans fell in love with this outspoken and quirky anti-hero: enormous fangs, merciless mindset and all. Between the arresting look, freaky origins, and dark/light themes, people were hooked, and a fan base was born, driving the character’s own eponymous series and becoming one of the most popular characters in Marvel history.  Now, the character comes to the big screen in his own film.

Opening in Philippine cinemas Thursday, October 4, Venom is distributed in the Philippines by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.
