    Bb. repeaters follow Pia’s advice

    If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again.

    “No harm in trying again,” so said 2015 Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach after winning Bb. Pilipinas-Universe on her third try (first as first runner-up and then as one of the semi-finalists).

    Indeed, if there’s a will, there’s a way. Aim for the star and don’t blink. They also serve who only stand and wait. (A winner never quits, a quitter never wins. — Sweepstakes winning agent Manuel Uy.)

    Heeding Pia’s advice, several repeaters are among the 40 official candidates in the 2017 Bb. Pilipinas search for six winners who will represent the country in the following pageants: Universe, International, Intercontinental, Supranational, Grand International and Globe. Thus, the repeaters and other aspirants have more chances of bagging a title.

    Among the “comebacking” binibini candidates:

    • Maria Angelica de Leon (2013 Top 15 semi-finalist), daughter of actors Christopher de Leon and Sandy Andolong;

    • Jehza Mae Hueler (2016 second runner-up);

    • Arienne Louise Calingo (2013 Bb. Pilipinas-USA first runner-up/2014 Miss Asian Global/2014 Miss Asian California/2016 Miss World Philippines First Princess);

    • Dindi Joy Pajares (2016 Top 15 semi-finalist);

    • Charmaine Elima (2013 Top 15 semi-finalist);

    • Vanessa Saliba (2014 candidate);

    • Angelique Celine de Leon (2014/2016 candidate);

    • Elizabeth Clenci (2011 candidate)

    • Jennyline Carla Malpaya (2016 candidate/Top Six Best National Costume and 2013 Miss World Philippines candidate);

    • Mae Liezel Ramos (2014 Top 15 semi-finalist/2008 Miss Bicolandia second runner-up/2009 Mutya ng Ibalong first runner-up/2010 Miss Kaogma Festival/2011 Miss World Philippines candidate/2013 Mutya ng Magayon first runner-up); and

    • Sarah Jireh Asido (2014 candidate/2013 Miss Philippines Earth candidate).

    Many of the candidates have competed in other beauty contests, namely:

    Dindi Joy Pajares, Charmaine Elima, Sammie Anne Legaspi

    • Dane Felisse Marasigan (2012 Miss Philippines Earth candidate);

    • Maria Gail Devora Tobes (2012 Miss Northern Samar/2015 Miss National State Colleges & Universities Athletic Association [SCUAA]/2016 Miss Best Model Asia Pacific Philippines candidate);

    • Joselle Mariano (2013 Mutya ng Pilipinas Top 10 semi-finalist/2014 Miss Philippines Earth/2015 Miss R.P.-Luzon);

    • Ma. Bejieleen Nama (2011 Miss Casino Filipino candidate/2011 Miss Yacht Model International candidate/2013 Bb. Unibersidad and 2014 Miss World University candidate);

    • Kimberly Pajares (2012 Miss Casino Filipino second runner-up/2014 Miss World Philippines Top 13 semi-finalist);

    • Sirene Sutton (2014 Miss Global Philippines first runner-up);

    • Leitz Camyll Ang (2015 Miss World Philippines candidate);

    • Larah Grace Lacap (2012 Mutya ng Pilipinas second runner-up/2012 Miss World Philippines candidate);

    • Nelda Ibe (2014 Miss World Philippines second princess);

    • Rachel Louise Peters (2014 Miss World Philippines fourth princess);

    • Jamaica Elysse Ambal (2011 Bb. Calamba);

    • Chanel Olive Thomas (2015 Miss Philippines-Air);

    • Arah Saleintes (2016 Miss World Philippines Top 12 semi-finalist);

    • Ruffa Nava (2014 Miss World Philippines candidate);

    • Beatrice Valente (2014 Miss Tierra Ilalia/2014 Miss Earth candidate representing Italy/2015 Miss R.P. International);

    • Juliana Kapeundi (2010 Mutya ng Batangas/2011 Reyna ng Aliwan candidate);

    • Karla May Manongsong (2016 Miss Bulacan candidate);

    • Katarina Sonja Rodriguez (2014 Season 2 Asia’s Next Top Model second runner-up);

    • Thoreen Halvosen (2012 Miss Philippines Earth-Fire);

    • Mae Lanie Chan (2009 Mutya ng Pilipinas Top 12 semi-finalist);

    • Kristel Guelos (2013 Miss Philippines Earth candidate); and

    • Sammie Anne Legaspi (2016 Miss Global Philippines second runner-up/2016 Miss Sophie Paris Philippines/2017 Saniata ti Ylocos Environment).

    Rounding up the 40 aspirants (winnowed down from almost 100 applicants) are: Jessica Ramirez, Maria Camille Manalo, Christagale Borja, Clarice Marion Villareal, Kristi Rose Cequena, Gabriela Patricia Ortega and Ana Patricia Asturias.

    The grand coronation night will be held on April 30 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. — With a report from Celso de Guzman Caparas

    Stephany, walang ipinaglalaban!
    March 4, 2017 at 12:01:47 am

    Binura ni Miss Philippines Earth 2012 Stephany Stefanowitz ang kanyang Facebook post tungkol sa pagkakaligwak niya sa 40 official candidates ng Bb. Pilipinas 2017.

    Nang hindi siya makasali sa Final 40, nag-post sa Facebook ang 27-year old ex- beauty queen ng “If Miss Universe is open to accept candidates until they reach 28, why can’t our local pageants do the same?”

    Apparently, nahimasmasan si Stefanowitz kaya binura nito ang komento at puwedeng may nagsabi sa kanya na wala siyang ipinaglalaban dahil klarong-klaro ang age requirement ng Bb. Pilipinas Charities Inc., ang organizer ng Bb. Pilipinas, para sa mga aspiring beauty queen: Applicants should be from 17 to 26 years of age at the time of the pageant.

    2017 Bb. Pilipinas Format Change: 2 Q&A Portions Just Like Miss Universe

    It looks like Bb. Pilipinas has a new format. Rumor has it that the new format included TWO Q&A portions just like in Miss Universe. Is Bb. Pilipinas now tightly screening its winner’s communication skills after what happened with Maxine Medina in Miss Universe 2016?

    Isabella Montano/CNN PH

    The new format rumor comes from Powerhouse PH, and it goes like this:

    Twenty (20) semifinalists will be selected; they will compete in the swimsuit portion;
    Eleven (11) will move to the next round: the evening gown competition;
    From the 11, four (4) runners-up will be announced;
    The remaining seven will compete in the Q&A portion to determine their placings;
    Five will be announced as winners of BB. Pilipinas Supranational, Bb. Pilipinas Globe, Bb. Pilipinas Grand International, Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental, and Bb. Pilipinas United Continents (new title);
    The remaining two(2) finalists will compete in another Q&A portion to determine who will be Bb. Pilipinas International and Bb. Pilipinas Universe.

    Wow! Now this is what I call a real competition! Hopefully, the rumor is true. It seems we have learned something from Miss Universe 2016 after all.

    But if I may add, can we do away with the compulsory English Q&A please? Let the candidates answer in Pilipino, with no point deductions for such a choice. Hopefully, that’s another change we can implement after Miss Universe 2016.

    BTW, there’s another rumor that new Bb. Pilipinas crowns will also debut this year!

    MANILA – Expect some sibling rivalry in this year’s Binibining Pilipinas pageant as Dindi Joy and Kimberly Pajares compete for the coveted crown.

    The sisters and flight attendants both made it to the official list of candidates of Bb. Pilipinas 2017. Dindi is Bb. 24, while Kimberly is Bb. 11.

    Dindi and Kimberly are not new to the local pageant scene. Dindi joined Bb. Pilipinas last year and finished in the Top 15. She also competed in Miss Philippines Earth 2011 and ended up in the Top 20.

    Older sister Kimberly, on the other hand, was a candidate of Miss World Philippines 2014, where she finished in the Top 20.

    Here are some photos of the Pajares sisters. Will they be successful in winning a Bb. Pilipinas crown this year?

    Binibining Pilipinas 2017 candidates in swimsuits designed by Jeffrey Rogador
    Binibining Pilipinas/Bruce Casanova

    MANILA, Philippines — “Aside from fashion, I love pageants!” said award-winning fashion designer Jeffrey Rogador.

    For the past two years, Jeffrey has been designing the swimwear for the opening videos of the Binibining Pilipinas pageant. This year, he is tapped to do all the presentations with swimwear exposures---the press conference, TV plugs, official photoshoot, and coronation night.

    “Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. called me and asked me to be the official swimwear designer for Binibining Pilipinas 2017,” Jeffrey says. “I’ll be doing five to six swimsuits for the official 40 candidates.” (Unfortunately, that number has gone down to 39 as one candidate has resigned or has been disqualified.)

    Jeffrey also did the swimwear for two editions of Century Tuna Superbods and the recent Miss San Fernando, La Union.

    “I gave sketches and designs to [BPCI], most of them two-piece with cutouts and plays on patterns and colors, then they chose and approved a particular design for each event. I made young and modern designs in terms of colors, looks, cuts and details. They requested for bright and happy colors. I just infused my DNA as an urbanwear designer because I don’t know which ones will be approved. ”

    For the press presentation, Jeffrey used Spandex with chiffon wrap and color-blocking of neons. When the candidates sauntered in at the ballroom of the Novotel Hotel in Cubao, their JR Swimwear caressed every curve and showcased their toned physiques. “We did three fittings before the press presentation,” Jeffrey shares.

    “Madam Stella [Marquez de Araneta, BPCI doyenne] is very keen with the fitting and how the swimwear hugs the body of the ladies,” he says, adding, “She’s happy with the swimwear.”

    What about the girls? “The candidates love the swimsuit.They were all asking if they can take it home.”

    Can they? “I’m not sure. It’s the decision of BPCI.”
