Nakakamiss lang yung mga movies na talagang de kalibre at makabuluhan i think the last one i remember from Star cinema was Sayo Lamang. Kahit na yung classic films ng Viva nakakamiss din they usually make movies that reallymatter. Ngayon kasi parang too commercialized na yung mainstream filmmaking na kung sa ano nalang yung mas kikita at mas patok.

I do miss the classic filipino films. Too bad, I just started to appreciate them only around 2008. I started to build my DVD and VCD collection of whatever title available in those formats. Yes even collecting pirated DVD of those movies na hindi nakarelease and VHS ripped na lang. Ngayon wala na halos makikitang DVD na available sa record bars dahil na din sa limited market nito.

That is why I appreciate a lot the effort ABS CBN film restoration team is putting up to save the classics and releasing a few titles in DVDs. I do have their first 5 titles and for 399-450 pesos each they are soooo worth it! Aside from the digitally restored film, siksik yung DVD ng audio commentaries, still photos, additional features etc. I bought Himala, Oro Plata Mata, Virgin People, Ganito Kami Noon... Paano Kayo Ngayon and Karnal. The Double Disc edition of Nora-Vilma starrer is also on the way. Mike De Leon trilogy is also in the process of seeing the light to be on DVD so I will definitely have copy of those movies as well.

Ikaw ano ang mga pinakapaborito mong Classic Filipino movies? Maybe we can start listing down atleast 10 Best/Favorite Filipino Classic Movies, 10 Best Filipino 90s to Present Movies, 10 Best Filipino Indie Movies.

I have very limited list of indie movies that I have seen. Im sure na mas maraming magaganda pang Indie movies. It's just that they are really hard to find and possibleng hindi na din talaga mapanood unless mag issue ng DVD or mabili ng Cinema One yung rights to air the movie.

I hope bumalik ulit sa ganyan ang qualities ng mga movies and sana maappreciate ng younger generation ang mga classics and that will set a bar of excellence para simulan na din na manood ng iba't ibang movies na outside sa "template offering" ng big film studios. Sure there are good films na nagagawa lately pero kulang sa support from the viewing public.

I have a few lang naman na favorite local films. Mostly mga family themed, its just my cup of tea.

Some of my most favorites are
Sayo Lamang - I literally cried buckets sa movie na to. Ang galing nilang lahat lalo na sina Bea, Christopher and LT. Cry fest talaga!
Tanging Yaman - like i said i have a soft spot pag family themed haha pero aside from that sobrang ganda lang talaga ng dialogue ng movie na to
Patayin sa sindak si Barbara the one from LT - Its probably my most favorite local pinoy horror movie of all time. Again sobrang ganda ng concept ng film sobrang galing ni LT
Magkapatid - When i watched this it reminded me na Sharon is really one of the greatest actors in the country. Sobrang ganda as in sobrang ganda ng cinematography nito lalo na yung last scene where Sharon threw a bouqet of flowers at a lake na parang symbolism ng pag let go niya sa namatay niyang anak. And the theme song both sides now I really cried a lot
Kailangan koy ikaw - Medyo cheezy yung story pero iba kasi talaga yung cinematography ng viva films. plus its not just about romance between regine and robin may connect din siya sa families nila. basta nakaka miss yung viva films diverse kasi ng films nila unlike Star Cinema ngayon pa ulit2x nalang lol
Mano Po films - halos lahat nito gusto ko pero the 1st one yung kay Maricel Soriano for me is the best

I agree on your favorite movies. Family drama is one of Philippine Cinema's strengths/forte. Sugatang Puso (Jose Javier Reyes) and Ang Tanging Ina (Wenn Deramas) are also worth mentioning. I've seen Sa Yo Lamang twice in cinema. First with my friends then na-realize ko maganda syang ipapanood din sa family ko. It was really a good family drama movie considering na ang huling ganitong uri ng movie eh a decade ago pa which is Tanging Yaman. Akala ko nga yan ang hahakot ng awards nong 2011 and could be Bea's Milan/Nasaan Ka Man moment ni Claudine. Another family drama which is so so is Filipinas (Joel Lamangan). Only remarkable about this movie is Ms. Maricel Soriano's performance.

I haven't seen the rest of Mano Po except the first one. Mano Po is a league of it's own pero sa MMFF 2002 mas bet ko ang Dekada 70. Also a non-conventional Star Cinema offering.

As much as possible, I try to see these once-in-a-blue-moon type of movies in cinema para naman maka-contribute sa kikitain ng movie and ma-encourage pa ulit ang producers na magproduce ng quality and out of the box kind of films. Minsan nga kahit hindi ganon kaganda, I still watch it. The likes of Rosario (period drama), Emir (musical) and Baler (historical drama) are not really that outstanding but I still watched them in cinema. RPG Metanoia, Senior Year (Jerrold Tarog), Lola (Briliante Mendoza), Ang Babae sa Septic Tank are some of the good ones I've seen on the big screen.

Last year's MMFF got a good set of movie line up. Ang inuna kong panoorin ay yung mga possibleng mapull out agad after the festival. Saving Sally and Sunday Beauty Queens ang napanood ko and hindi ako nagsisi sa ibinayad ko. I'll just wait for the remaining entries to be shown on Cinema One or if magkaron ng DVD release.

OMG i agree so much with you akala ko rin talaga hahakot ang Sayo Lamang ng awards. especially Bea like you said. Lalo na yung scene niya with LT yung sa church na silang dalawa lang and LT revealed to her yung terminal na sakit niya. it was a very moving and piercing scene sobrang tagos sakin yung reaction ni Bea plus the calmness of the setting na umuulan pa yun. there was something about that scene na sobrang husay talaga. I wish gumawa ulit ang SC ng ganitong klaseng movie. I havent seen Filipinas yet ill watch it this weekend. Nakakamiss lang noh? Today kasi mainstream films revolve around loveteams and vice and pangangaliwa. im not complaining i just wish may variety
  • Super. Classic films are incomparable. I personally hope that more and more old films will be restored so that the generations of today and even the generations in the future will be able to watch and appreciate them.

The problem is it takes gigantic effort and money to do restorations and preservation of these films. May ibang classic movies na yung may ari ng rights ay ayaw ipagbenta yung film for distribution or tv/cable broadcast. Napakadaming magandang movies and hindi man lang masilayan ng bagong generation. I worry too na yung magagandang indie movies ay hindi din na mapanood dahil hindi available sa DVD or hindi nabili ng Cinema One and rights or if nabili man ang rights maraming cuts especially those R rating indie films and I find it a waste also kung hindi mapapanood ang movie with cuts. Probably some of the crucial or key points ng movies, yun pa ang makaka-cut. Walang chance to see these movies without cuts unless may special screening, film festivals or sa Cinema76. As of the moment I want to see Apocalypse Child, Transit, Baka Bukas, 2 Cool to Be Forgotten, Anino sa Likod ng Buwan etc. even if I pay through pay-per-view sites if ever available, but no luck at all.

Ayaw ko man imention dito dahil I support Filipino movies to the extent that I can like buying original DVDs and watching them in cinemas pero yung iba talaga na hindi available or hindi ko na naabutan sa cinema, umaasa na lang ako sa illegal uploads and noong 2010 yung mga classic movies na naitransfer to pirated DVDs pinatulan ko din.
  • As much as possible, I also want to support the industry by watching the films the most legal way. Patiently waiting for the release via TFC or TFC IPTV like https://pinoyonlinetv.com/ cinetropa, Hooq but sad to say it is very limited. Been itching to see Kita Kita and I already saw the list cinemalaya and Ate Shawie's Ang Pamilyang Hindi Lumuluha looks so promising. So many Filipino movies to watch so little time and resources.

Hi alexxx, I find Silip as one of the few daring and brave films Philippine cinema ever produced. You may find it exploitive and explicit to some extent (depends on your mind setting when you watch the film) but if you watch the totality of the movie with an open mind it can be said that it is unique, there's a solid story line and convincing acting.

Isa sya sa mga napili ng ibang lahi to restore and distrubute worldwide. That explains the picture quality of the DVD or even the DVD ripped video uploaded online.

Same here. Nong 2012 kahit sobrang sabik na ako panoorin ang The Mistress inintay ko pa din yung original DVD bago ko sya pinanood. Good thing now TFC has earlier online premier of mainstream and some indie movies. Even Hooq and iflix pinapatulan ko na din. Hirap din ng nasa ibang bansa. Hindi makanood ng Cinemalaya and Cinema One originals.

First time ko napanood ang Six Degrees of Separation with Lilia Cuntapay sa Hooq. Then yung 1st ko si 3rd (Nova Villa, Dante Rivero and Freddie Webb) sa in-flight entertainment ng isang airline ko naman napanood.
