You guys are indeed right. However, there is a flaw in your reasoning. A low student population will not always mean a high pass rate. The pass rate will always depend on the individual abilities of the student which in UP Manila seems to be very high. Likewise, a high student population will mean high pass rates only if the students are good. Throw in one bad student and you nix up the whole bunch. That's partly the reason why UPCN takes in just so many students- they don't want to be tainted with bad ones.

I quoted this number not from thin air but from the numbers from the UPCN's College Secretary. You can call them up just to make sure. And FYI, most of the nursing graduates don't end up as nurses. They're far to good to be just that. My fiance, for instance, is at AIM finishing her MBA. She's from UPCN and she never bothered being a nurse because it's a menial job with low pay. UPCN Class 1991's Valedictorian was my groupmate back in the good old days and now he's doing a fellowship in TCVS at PGH.

I can even recall a time when the PGH never recruited any nurses who came from other schools. The place was just closed to non-UPCN graduates. Now that the economy has gone sour, things have changed. The ward's been populated with nurses who just can't/don't/won't/never think. Think about that.

One last thing: please never assail my integrity again.

Let's get it straight from the horse's mouth- will someone, anyone, who graduated from UPCN clarify your Board Pass Rates? I'll gladly verify the Board Pass rates myself and post them if someone says otherwise.

'yun nga ang point dun, andrew_296, eh kung may babagsak pa sa nursing licensure exams ang up eh 'd ba nakakahiya 'yun? sabi n'yo kasi eh puro "magagaling daw" ang kinukuha ng upcn. pero i doubt na 50 years na 100% ang passing rate ng upcn. ang magaling kasi sa UST eh 200-400 ang kumukuha ng exams and ang passing rate n'ya eh 98-100% palagi (this year nga lang medyo naging 91% which is not bad naman, of course, kasi lahat naman eh bumaba ang passing rates). ikumpara mo ngayon 'yan sa upcn na wala pa 'atang 30 ang prino-produce na nurses kada taon. saan naman ang hustisya run, 'di ba? :D

    Braveheart:

I totally agree with your statement (except the Board Pass Rates, which I am willing to believe unless proven otherwise). Nung unang kinuwento ng fiance ko sa akin, hindi rin ako naniwala kasi medyo far-fetched. Pero nung na-meet namin yung may ari ng Review Center for the Nursing Boards (who happens to be their college secretary as well; the review center's name is Far Eastern Review Center, I think), hindi din lahat ng 40 students nakakapagexam. "Iniipit" nila yung iba (pardon the pun), and the ones who look weak are actually given a hard time or pressured to shift courses.

What I think is remarkable with UST is their ability to turn tons of supposedly"mediocre" students into good nurses, as opposed to UPCN's policy of getting the "good" ones initially and subsequently weeding out a few more.

I actually don't blame these people when at times they're proud of what they've done. I even remember this one time when my fiance was suspended for a few days because she was caught wearing their uniform outside of a clinical environment. My fiance said "Akala ko makakalusot ako na studyante ng ibang eskuwela", forgetting that the only school who has dared to copy their uniform is Makati Med's College of Nursing. Both schools wear this blue and white pinstriped uniform, the only difference being that Makati Med wears black stockings (na sabi ng fiance ko baduy daw, sorry sa mga taga MMC). UP's Rayadillo and UPCN's students wear exactly the same uniform, excluding the swords and headgear of course. My point is that these people are quite proud of their heritage and it would be a blow to the College if its high standards are compromised by a single individual.

On a different note, I hope the Thread Starter applies to and gets into UP's College of Nursing (or any other College in UP Manila for that matter). I hope you get to meet the supremely gifted students (even though some will be as dumb as rocks) and faculty (who can sometimes give reason for failure even if there isn't one). If you do get in, I hope you feel inferior. I hope you realize you're not the best guy around, as I have.

    Answer to the above question:

    College of Nursing- UST

But once you made it here in the US, the school where you came from doesn't matter as long as you have the BSN, RN penned after your name.
Tayo lang namang mga PINOY ang mahilig magtanong.."ay saang school ka gradweyt?"..."ay da best ang school namin"
tingnan nyo na lang ang topics posted dito :-)

anyway...we really need RNs here.....so mga kababayan..magshift na kayo ng nursing...gayahin nyo ang ibang mga MDs..they're studying Nursing.....so far it's the easiest way to the USA....and definitley one of the high paying jobs in the US....care to have a $50-$55/hr (agency staff-RN) wage?

    goodluck!

UP Manila nursing also has flaws here and there, as I said in past post, UP manilas' population is so insignificant compare to ust(very much out numbered kayo) and hello who are you to equate our freshies to 'mediocrity' did you know that almost every year the college of nursing accepts' 100+(they accept what 200 freshies?) valedictorians and the other mostly belonged to the top 10% of their respective higschools? These demographics can be validated by the UST-OSACS which gives a scholarships exams for freshies (The St. Thomas Aquinas Scholars) like the college of Rehab(PT/OT) most of their students either did top the USTET or refered to by their respective HighSchools; kaya it doesn't necessarily mean that if you get accepted sa UP e "Henyo ka na!?" may mga iba na either ayaw sa UP o gusto talaga sa UST!

minsan 'exag' na talaga ang tingin nyo sa UPCAT ofcourse mahirap ang upcat, it should be because the poor juan de la cruz would be subsidizing the education of these bunch of people who i hope would not turn out to be arrogant individuals just because they are from UP! minsan nakakairita na ang sobrang pag claim nyo sa excellence even if the fact would slum it into your faces!

Ikaw ba naman ang mag claim na for 50 years eh walang bumabagsak sa inyo kundi ba naman delusions yun? e ewan ko na! lest you can prove it here by posting every result of the nursing board since its humble beginning e sasabihin kong ' nahihibang ka!

Tanong ka pa sa mga Member ng Ched Technical Panel for Nursing at isa lang ang sasabihjin nila sa inyo "Too strict for comfort and system ng UP!" Lest you can prove us wrong by producing atleast 100+ graduates and making them all pass and get employed eh sasabihin kong and yabang naman nyo! mag claim ng excellence when your school is contributing so little man power to the nursing profession itself.

in ending these wala akong balak maki pag huntahan ng ka ewanan sa mga nananaginip, unless you can provide us the record for the past 50+ years na sinasabi mo!

Sa liit ng population n'yo DAPAT LANG WALANG BUMAGSAK! or else nakakahiya naman sa napakagaling na UP!?

i think ust college of nursing. in fact, pagtapos nila ng 2nd year, before sila mag 3rd year, kailangang may general weighted average sila na 2.51 or higher. pag di umabot, kahit wala kang bagsak, madedebar ka from the college. posted yong average ng student sa bulletin board after ng finals. wala ngang lusot dahil arranged from highest to lowest.

i read sa issue ng collegian (up student's official newspaper) last month yata na indeed, 100% ang passing rate ng mga taga UPCN...medyo nagkaroon daw ng slight gulo sa UPCN dun sa last result ng board exams coz for the first time may isa yatang nag fail kaya the whole college went gaga over this matter...at the end they found out that yung isa pa lang bumagsak is not a graduate of their college...someone na taga leyte...something like that

i'll try to find that issue and post the whole story here...

    Is agent 1611 a nurse?

She's so mad about something that's clearly not something to be fussed about. I hope Andrew doesn't bite lest he stoop down to this kid's level.

Dapat 2 or above ( i.e 1.75, 1.5, 1.25, 1.00) ang general weighted average before you enter Level II. Minsan kahit 2.00002 pinapalusot na.
