Humanity needs culture, not religion

Religion is all about subservience and kowtowing to a particular symbol in order to suppress natural human drives because those are deemed chaotic and disruptive.
Culture is about channeling those drives into productive and artful outlets. For example, even the drive towards aggression, when expressed via martial arts, is turned into a beautiful performance.
When religion keeps evolving it eventually hits a certain point where it now becomes a culture. Fundamentalism can be seen as a regression towards a simpler, less evolved mindset that is unable to apprehend or handle culture.
I believe this was the case with Islam, which had its golden age when it contributed tremendous amounts of art and science to the world. Today, Islam (as represented in western media at least), has all the indications of being in its Dark Ages, where its main indulgence is in its attack of people who don't share the same belief and a spreading - not of its associated art and culture - but of its proscriptions (e.g. we see halal food and sukuk finance proliferating today).

The problem with this is that you set your own definitions of religion and culture. Couldn't that religion permeates culture or culture breeds religion. You see we may create quasi questions which may arise depending on the philosopher. You philosophize on culture and religion and created a fancy or quasi or false dichotomy.
Religious fundamentalism is another thing.0 -
religion is culture externalized.0

I can always give examples of how religion and culture contributed to human atrocities.so stop fooling yourselves by saying that we need them both.
Religion is mostly don'ts - NEGATIVE and SELF-DEFEATIST.
Culture is mostly do's and exploration of beauty - generally POSITIVE.
The distinction between the two is not necessarily black and white and is more of a gamut, but I consider culture a more evolved concept that eventually arises out of more primitive, barbaric religions (esp. the dogma-driven ones).0 -
religion is cuture
culture is tradition
tradition is culture
one could turn a simple folklore or superstition into a religion. in short, it is human nature to be imaginative and gullible.0 -
Humanity needs the true religion that Christ established for God's nation for their salvation.

^ korek,
in our field, our college professors pointed out that culture is one of the biggest factor for the development of architecture. this includes religion. the most influential religions that made great achievements are those with living human demi-gods who pass down their POWER to their offsprings.
call it a religious monarchy.

^ oo nga ...... the egyptian empire was ruled by catholics just like the chinese, inca, hindu and japanese empires. yan did ang ginawa ng mayayamang pamilya sa vatican at europa nun medieval period.
and, the A History of Architecture by Sir Banister Fletcher was actually co-authored by Cardinals which was supported by the Roman Catholic Church.
ang New Era college ay may architecture course. ano ba yun tinuturo nila sa history of architecure at theory of design?
bottomline, religion is culture.0 -

Agree ako sa sinabi mo tungkol sa religion is culture, culture is tradition and tradition is culture.
So ito ang lumalabas na nakikita ko in a real, real world......
#1. Religion is culture. Ang majority founder ng religion ay men.
a. Jesus
b. Joseph Smith
c. Allah
d. Buddha
...at maraming, maraming iba pa. Sabi ko, majority. Hindi man lahat pero karamihan. If baga ay outstanding and predominant ika nga.
#2. ---at dahil Religion is culture, well, ang ibig sabihin lang nun is patriarchal religion and so, patriarchal culture po siya.
Patriarchal culture.
Ang patriarchal culture ay predominantly by men at men ang nagpapa-inpluwensya sa moral and ethics ng mismong society. Iyan ang naririnig ko na katawagan na male social norm or its a man's world at dahil patriarchal culture ay andiyan nagsilabasan na paternal law katulad ng......
#1. Keep the virginity na it is a sign of ownership and property.
You know ayaw ng ibang lalake na inuunahan sila.
#2. Property and ownership sa wife at sa anak. To be sure po na ang anak mismo ng lalake ay kanya lang talaga at wala ng iba pa.
#3. Men authority over women...... maraming, maraming iba pa. Nakakapagod po kase magsulat e. Iyon na lang ang sinabi ko.
Ang bansang Pilipinas ay patriarchal culture sapagkat 80% ay Catholic at hindi lang po Catholic kungdi, we are in a Christian country po. Ang naririnig ko pa ay we are in a religious country kuno, na keyso we are conservative daw.
Men are victorious gamit lang ang word of mouth at religion.
Anyway, if we do not follow the law of God ay siyempre, mapupunta tayo sa hell so realistic na majority ng mga tao ay kakapit kay God.0 -
^ from what i have observed, intellectual thinking usually takes a down turn is a female psuedo-deity is in power.
for example:
cleopatra and the empress dowager. simply because they are too preoccupied in having the next male psuedo-deity. they are also busy eliminating any possible threats including intellectuals to their heirs. as a result, their military focuses in internal affairs instead of expanding their influence and gathering new technology from their neighbor empires.0 -
Sabi nga ni gotta lick it ay religion is culture
@ gotta lick it
