Yung mga nanood daw ng 'My bebe love' nakatanggap ng ticket ng 'Beauty and the Bestie' and vice versa.

So ano masasabi niyo? Ready. Set. Fight!

Please watch and support quality Pinoy films like this:

    Honor Thy Father

    [video=youtube_share;1MwgB4Jk8j0]

Honor Thy Father is directed by Erik Matti starring John Lloyd Cruz. This movie is from the makers of On The Job, one of the few quality Pinoy movies that received positive response in Cannes. I believe this new one by Erik is good too and I will definitely watch it tomorrow.

Film buff ako dati when I was in college.

I don't judge if it's pang-masa o pang-box office. My only criterion is kung enjoy ako sa panonood ng pelikula.

My problem with Pinoy films like Honor Thy Father (judging from the trailer) is that it's too dark. It's like the only way to say that a Pinoy film is of legit good quality is if it features heavy dramas or dark topics. Hence, I don't blame people if they watch Vice Ganda or the AlDub pair.

Walang problema sa light type of movies kahit anong genre pa yan comedy, romance, drama etc.

Yung ibang pelikula tig-isang araw lang ipalabas tas pinu-pull out agad. Malamang may kalokohan sa loob. Ayaw ba nilang malamangan sa kita? Tangena nila.

Rather than make a good film, they make crappy films to be used as outlets for they gay shenanigans. If he's gay well thats still ok at least he is producing films without gay shenanigans.

Its good that he is speaking against the pull out issue. Anyway, I think the movie industry needs a cleaning.

I guess it all boils down sa mga networks dito saten. Especially on events such as MMFF. Malamang, dun sila kikita eh.

It will be a huge gamble kung ang mga mabababaw na temang ganyan eh tatanggalin sa movie industry natin at papalitan ng movies like that of OTJ at honor thy father. They can try yes, but in reality what matters the most eh yung kikitain nila.

Quality of a pinoy movie = to what's trending nowadays (no matter how jologs it is) + how much income they can get with it

    RIP Pinoy movie industry.

It's so unfair!
  • I have nothing against the masses who patronize either the aldub love team or vice ganda. Just as long as they have the money to spare (which they earned through honest means) to watch something they want , we dont have the right to question the type of movie they wanna see.

What makes me cringe about this issue is the business aspect of it. Assuming I wanna watch aldub and i fall in line for cinema 3 which would show aldub. I got my ticket and when i saw that its 'bestie' printed there on cimea 3 instead of aldub, i would initially protest. but if the theater manager says na 'promise, Aldub yan. punta na po kayo sa sinehan, naubusan na kasi yung ticket na pang aldub pero madami pong move house talaga nag sho-show ng aldub' i wouldnt think anything of it, kasi for me, the ticket its just a piece of paper, and i'd still get to see alden and yaya dub anyway.

However, if i were mr tuviera, i'd really raise a howl on this issue. eh di sa ticket sales, bestie ang lalabas na panalo kasi kahit na aldub ang pinanood ng mga tao, lumalabas na bestie yung bumenta. Kaya I really don't mind if he investigates the matter. curious talaga ako eh . gusto ko talaga malaman kung talagang totoo o hindi eh...

for the record, i neither watch aldub nor vice ganda pero kasi naiirita ako sa fez ni vice ganda at mas pleasant naman itsura ni alden at yaya kesa kaya i tend to be a little biased dun sa mga bata just because they are better-looking :glee:

“I love films that make me think AND films that are mindless fun. Nothing wrong with either. what’s wrong is telling people they’re wrong. Support local films because we do need a more solid industry and variety.” – Jako De Leon, a Filipino producer.

But what happens when the local film festival itself is the one shaking grounds for destroying the reputation of Filipino films.

The recent happenings in the 41st Metro Manila Film Festival make me run out of proper terms to describe the whole woolah that just happened. There’s the issue of a quality-movie, Honor Thy Father, being disqualified in a single category just the day before the awards night and there are couple of rants about Maine Mendoza for not ‘deserving’ the “Best Supporting Actress” title given to her.

On the same day Honor Thy Father was disqualified, their director Erik Matti pleaded his concern over the internet questioning the timing of the abrupt disqualification. MMFF said that the grounds for disqualification is that the movie was already shown in some other film fest making it not exclusive for MMFF. This was the only freaking reason of MMFF for disqualifying it in only one category.

With every anomalies that had occurred during the film fest I came up with questions to ponder and a theory that may or may not reflect the truth behind the [#]MMFF2015Scandal[/#]

Q1: Why was Honor Thy Father disqualified for the Best Picture Award only after the first official release on December 25? Are the people behind MMFF are just plain reckless for not noticing their concern earlier? Or there is a dirty reason behind the “urgent” disqualification? I honestly do not understand the rules and regulations of the MMFF as an ordinary person but Q2: if Honor Thy Father violated a rule of the film fest, why is the movie only disqualified in one category? And why the Best Picture Award? Is it because there is an underlying grounds for disqualification that common people do not know about or the whole shebang is part of a bigger scheme?

I will be inserting snippets of Direk Erik Matti’s latest Facebook post dated December 28, 2015 while I state my theory behind the [#]MMFF2015Scandal[/#]

    So here’s my theory:

December 25, when all the films for the so-called grandest film festival during Christmas Season are now showing in cinemas, issues of ticket swapping aroused all over the news. This is more than printing other movie ticket to see the movie you really wanted to watch. There were stories where cinemas tell movie-goers that the movie they want to see is already sold out so they suggest another movie instead.

Let’s not fool each other. I’m pertaining to My Bebe Love movie-goers who allegedly received Beauty and the Bestie tickets instead of MBL. As anticipated, hundreds of people will crowd the cinemas to see MBL because of the current hype that is Aldub. I mean seriously, whether you’re a fan or not, I know this already crossed your mind.

This means that even though you get to watch MBL, the ticket that you pay for is accounted to another movie that you did not watch. There goes the money-making scheme. But even though this incident happened, the movie MBL really grossed a lot of money. The director of MBL, Direk Joey Reyes cautioned the fans with this ticket swapping incident just right after the spark of the issue in Twitter and thanked them for supporting the movie.

“We need to involve the theaters!”.

    Brilliant idea.

So they hopped and skipped and grand jeted their way into the drive-in theaters making deals. Festival organizer on a donkey with one patch and an eye arm got the theater managers drunk and happy and made a deal with them. He whispered in a loud booming voice atop his donkey, inside the bar, near a table, on a stool:

“Theater managers, we have competition. Stay with us and we’re all good. (Burp) You show our films. Only our films. Keep it as long as you can in the theaters.”

Theater manager with a pearl earing and a missing tooth raised her hand with just four fingers (missing a thumb)

“But what if they want to watch something else?”

All the other managers, some with earrings and some without, nod in unison and in agreement.

Kaijo raises his hand too pretending to be naive and ignorant about the whole racket, but his protruding knees and folded cuffs can’t hide his evil intentions,

    “Yes! what if no one…”

Festival Patch riding an arm with one eye and a donkey patch shushes them all.

“Naive criminals! Just play our movies. If someone wants to watch a different movie, give them our ticket. If someone wants to buy a ticket to another movie that is not ours, tell them the movie is full and still give them our ticket instead. And any competition, on the first day with less than half of the theater full, take out the film and change it into our films!”

(Excerpt from Erik Matti’s Facebook post)

The ticket swapping is a disastrous scandal for the film festival organization. It questions their credibility for the 40 years they are running the business.

So what they did was to spark another issue and draw out the attention of the people. [This is a freaking theory!!!!]

Come December 26, they disqualified Honor Thy Father. This caused a stir in Twitter and a lot of netizens who have seen the movie cried out their lungs and demanded for a fair process before disqualifying the HTF and pulling it out from the cinemas.

So at first, a lot of people got mad at MMFF.

“What the ***** is happeneing [#]RIPMMFF[/#]”

“Bakit nila dinidisqualify ang magagandang films?”

“Dapat My Bebe Love na lang ang idisqualify!”

So there! They are successful for making it look like they play favoritisms with MBL and causing “elites” to draw all the hate to the said movie. I saw a tweet in my timeline saying:

“Hindi ginawa ang film festival para pasikatin ang aspiring maging artista [#]RIPMMFF[/#]”

They are really amazing for making their scheme flow smoothly in their way.

December 27 was the most awaited awards night. The night when all suspicious things caught my attention.

HTF is disqualified for the Best Picture Category
Maine won the Best Supporting Actress Award
The 1st and 2nd best picture films both have the same producers. Google it.
Beauty and the Bestie was not nominated for any major awards

This makes me really suspicious and think that maybe there is an alliance between producers, MMFF organizers and someone who wanted to shut down the popularity of a loveteam. Let’s name that someone: Big Boss.

In Point 1: It seems to me like they disqualified HTF to include MBL as the 3rd Best Picture Awardee to draw the hate to the said movie. People will obviously be like “Utang na loob Best picture ang MBL??? At dinisqualify ang Honor Thy Father?” And yup they succeeded. People’s responses were like that. No offense to MBL team because I know that they worked hard for the movie as well as the others, but again this is only my theory.

In Point 2: It is indeed very suspicious that Maine Mendoza was awarded the Best Supporting Actress Award when she is technically compared to award-winning actresses like Iza Calzado and Nova Villa. Again no offense to Maine and her acting skills, but I guess this is again only to draw more hate and bashing to her. Even Maine tweeted her disbelief for her winning.

In point 3: This is where Direk Erik Matti’s tweets and facebook posts tie the knots of uncertainty. He thinks there is an alliance between the producer of Walang Forever and Buy Now Die Later, (because in fact, the two movies are under the same Production Co.) and MMFF organizers. Well, I think so too.

Kaijo suddenly stands up from his chair, excited to share an idea.

“Hey, festival organizer, why don’t you also make our movies win the awards?”

Festival organizer riding a horse with one finger and an eye patch let’s out a boisterous angelic booming malicious laughter.

“Kaijo…you are a genius. We got it covered in the theaters. I got it covered inside the festival with the awards and you…by the way, what would you do Kaijo?”

Kaijo slowly walks toward festival donkey riding an eye patch and an arm organizer and confidently whispers,

“Don’t worry, I will always be there to defend you!”

(Excerpt from Erik Matti’s Facebook post)

In Point 4: How come BATB is not nominated for most awards? Come on let’s not fool ourselves. It is the second highest grossing film to date but there are no nominations in major awards at all? (FYI: their only nomination was for the Best Child Performer category) What kind of eyes do the judges and organizers have that most people who watched the movie do not have? Vice Ganda and Coco Martin have their own loyal supporters. And I know they are really good performers for I have seen their past movies too. Vice Ganda took home major awards for his past movies in MMFF too. Their director is actually known for creating great films. But why weren’t they nominated? Kahit Best Original Theme Song man lang po? This is, again, my theory. To whoever is behind this, Big Boss maybe, I think it is to not point fingers to them and get the sympathy of the people for they didn’t receive an award. Tactics maybe?

It’s really hard to decipher all that has been happening. Whether it is really to hide away good quality Filipino movies or just shut down the current success of an uprising star, it is really frustrating that our beloved Metro Manila Film Festival has gotten to this extent. It’s sad that MMFF can now be properly named Money Making Film Festival because of all the recent anomalies. I believe that all 2015 entries are masterpieces in their own ways . The actors and actresses gave their best to showcase their art and entertain Filipino viewers. It is really unfair to hate a movie or anyone from the movie before even watching it. I hate the fact that actors are being bashed just because of a film festival that is supposed to uplift the spirit of these Filipino actors in coming up with local films.

If there is one thing that I can think of that I am thankful for for this Metro Manila Film Fest turned money making film fest, that is it was so frustrating that it caught my attention and made me really care for the importance of Filipino movies.

Oh before I forget, ano nga po palang tawag sa pagdisqualify nyo ng pelikula sa Best Picture Award na ang direktor ay tatanghalin niyong Best Director sa film fest niyo?

    Kalokohan.

Frankly, I could not care less. I hardly watch tagalog movies anyway (I'm not a big fan of horror movies and rom com which seems to be the theme of most MMFF movies). At the very least, curious ako sa Honor Thy Father, and If they look at the bright side, all this publicity could work for them (if they do not stop airing HTF at cinemas, that is).
