on the topic, thread starter, medyo di ko makuha kung ano ang gusto mo sabihin (sorry!) sa topic mo, sosyal bang maituturing kung hindi mo gusto ang Aldub Phenomenon, yun ba?
OA mo naman. Everyone can escape it if they wanted too. All you have to do is not watch GMA (at ABS CBN na din), not follow any social media account or listen to radio stations affiliated with those networks.
If you want to watch the news do it on solar or cnn phils. If you want tv shows there are a lot on cable.
For me: PASOSYAL ang nababaduyan sa AlDub
Wala ako sa Ateneo ngayon but I'm sure marami ding AlDub fans dun.
Ang totoong sosyal (I define as someone who is a literati, or a culturati, someone who is cosmopolitan) walang pakialam kung baduy at jologs ang ginagawa niya.
People forget that Shakespeare, during the Victorian era, was considered jologs, baduy. Classical music was first and foremost popular music.
If you don't like aldub then don't watch it. Ganun ka simple.
But I am not sure if AlDub's popularity will endure like Mozart or Shakespeare.
We will only know in ten years, or in twenty years.
AlDub's popularity may not endure but it will be a rich case study in media, sociology, and business literature.
OA
[#]IkonekMoNaSaLahatWagNaMahiya[/#]
I'll just repeat this for everyone lalo na yong mga pasosyal who hate AlDub, especially the intellectual snobs.
The Philippines is not poor because the masa is bobo, as exhibited by its AlDub mania. The Philippines is poor because of low economic freedom. Our low economic freedom was/is brought about by our protectionist government policies that favor the elites and oligarchs.
Check out the Coca-Cola video below, how the masa exercises its economic freedom in the Kalye (not the in air-conditioned mall, business district, or sosy neighborhoods), making the Kalye[Serye] an appropriate representation of the masa's perseverance, to better themselves in their own way without much help from the elites and oligarchs:
AlDub is different. Have you seen their commercials, their social media metrics?
Have you had any experience in generating your own business plans and examining the PH business landscape?
Have you taken any business course when you were in college?
[#]HibangNaOA[/#] :glee:
What do you mean by low economic freedom? If you could expound in layman's terms, please.
Anyway, I agree that Filipinos are not bobo because being bobo is just on a different level and there are lots of evidence that pinoys are resourceful at magaling dumiskarte -- a typical pinoy has to be street smart to survive, and that's not bobo at all. I think it's being uneducated that's the culprit, since some more 'intelligent' programs are a little more challenging to understand. They were just not exposed to 'higher learning' to appreciate the better quality shows.
When it comes to entertainment, I believe masang pinoy is fond of simple things, easy to understand. Aldub is pretty simple, it's just a love story that they gave a little twist and a new spin to. If you study the core of it, it's no different from teleseryes with the guy pursuing the girl against all odds.
You see AlDub merely as a media sensation.
:rotfl: :bop:

Ang pagkakaiba siguro ng AlDub or Aldub from other teleseryes is Maine is just a fan or crush of Alden before, pero ngayon ka-love-team na niya.
Economic freedom encompasses so many things. But this will explain it a bit.
TAXES
Low economic freedom: High personal income taxes, high corporate income taxes, high VAT sales taxes
High economic freedom: Low/zero personal income taxes, low/zero corporate income taxes, low/zero VAT sales taxes
REGULATIONS
Low economic freedom: So many government regulations, very onerous regulations
High economic freedom: Common sense regulations only when someone needs to open up a business, or operate an existing business
INVESTMENTS
Low economic freedom: Foreigners could only own a limited % of business and land, in PH that is 40% for important sectors (energy, telecoms, media - explains why we have expensive electricity, expensive but slow internet, and Lopez-Gozun dominated media sector) and 0% for land (hence not much mega-farms)
High economic freedom: Foreigners could own 100% of business and 100% of land
TRADE
Low economic freedom: Quotas and tariffs for imported goods, custom duties on imported goods
High economic freedom: Low/zero quota for imported goods, low/zero custom duties on imported goods
RULE OF LAW
Low economic freedom: Low turn-around of court cases, courts favor the elites, court decision is executed slowly or not executed at all
High economic freedom: Fast turn-around of court cases, everyone is treated equally by the courts, court decision is executed quickly
PROPERTY
Low economic freedom: Government could easily take your property, such as taxes for your earnings, and the use of eminent domain power when it wants to take your real estate property
High economic freedom: Government has very low/zero taxes so you could keep most of your income (which is a property), government has very low power when it comes to taking and paying (a pittance) for your real estate property to convert it to roads, parks, airports, mining areas, or railroads.
