Shock rebuilding is it good?

Read some few post about shock rebuilding. parang ireplace yung oil ng nitrogen gas? also read that Zee and cruven are the top two who does this job. Question is this safe and reliable compared to replacement parts? or is it better to go straight with replacement parts.

  • I haven't tried re-building my shock. But i believe it depends on how good the re-builder is.

That should still be reliable and safe, since you're using your stock/original parts. Unlike buying replacement parts, hindi na original at pwedeng masira agad.
  • Tried it before as a stopgap measure. After a few months replaced it with brandnew ones. Not all busted shocks can be re-built, if the seals are totally gone and there are obvious leaks, hindi na kaya yan. And IMO, since there are cheap brand shocks anyway for less than P1000 each, why pay for P600-800 to refurbish your busted ones?

oo OK naman siya. pinagawa ko yung rear shocks ko sa Zee Carplus and have it repaired and raised yung shocks niya. It might affect your driving position, pero OK naman siya kapag fully loaded yung tsikot at hindi na sasabit yung kotse mo sa road cement at sa mga bumps.

Better replace it na lang with a decent Japanese brand like KYB.

BTW, I also tried to consider restoring my shock absorber. The quoted price including labor is about 4k. While a brand new Bilstein is just about 5.5k each. Kinda stupid of me if I still went for the rebuild that would likely last for just a year or two.
  • Bought a Koni shocks set for my civic back in the day. I since replaced it with KYB, question is I think the old koni shocks can be rebuilt since it is damper adjustable on both compression and rebound. Dunno where I can bring this though.
  • I just found that even KYB has gas shock too. But I'm speculating in this shock rebuilding. if oil can leak through tiny cracks how much more kung gas. gas refilling would also sum up and come out more expensive in the long run.

passed by goodyear inside auto camp this afternoon I asked for a quote for KYB for civic 7th gen.
P6540 each. Labor not included.. seems overpriced?

Texted a close friend from the province who runs a tire business for a quote he said he will get back to me tomorrow since he only got a rough estimate. I might buy if its cheaper since Im traveling there this coming all saints day. We'll be using a different car so biyahe ko nalang yung shock pabalik ng MM.. Problema ko nalang kung sinu pede magkabit sana kaya sa mga service station ng mga gasolinahan  and I hope wala ng iba pang kailangan palitan.

^6450 each? Too expensive. Try the auto supplies in Banawe. Should be around 2500 each. Big shops have big overhead kaya they mark up a lot even on parts, and would even charge the air you breath if possible. Hehehe.
  • nothing beats brand new IMO.

if bibili ka check mo yung KYB. karamihan ng mga OEM shocks afaik is KYB.

yes 6450 each itinawag pa somewhere to get the quote kasi its by order. passed from merchant to merchant kaya siguro nag mahal. friend still have no quote. sana malapit din sa 2,500.

wala bang fake ng KYB? how to know orig KYB?
  • Rebuilding shocks won't kill you it just looks funny when busted. Speed depends on the engine, sturdy shocks and tires while alignment is for safety above 70 mph.
