Martial Law, does it work?

Jagon
Jagon Don't listen to me
Someone told that Martial Law failed because it was declared and instituted by Marcos

Do you agree that the problem here was Marcos and not the system of Martial Law?

It was abused. They made the temporary permanent so Marcos could stay in power. It's a good thing if the Philippines was indeed being overrun by insurgents. But the fact of the matter was - it wasn't. They just made it look like it is. They orchestrated everything including the supposedly ambush of Enrile and the bombing of Plaza Miranda. :rotflmao:

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) joins the Filipino people in commemorating the Plaza Miranda Bombing of August 21, 1971. The dastardly bombing of the Liberal Party miting de avance was carried out by criminal henchmen of the US-Marcos dictatorship. Blaming the political opposition and the armed revolutionary movement for the bombing, Marcos ordered the suspension of the writ of habeas corpus and declared martial law a year later.

Time and again the Communist Party of the Philippines has vigorously condemned the Plaza Miranda bombing of August 21, 1971 and has denied having anything to do with it despite malicious efforts of the Marcos regime to put the blame on the aforesaid Party and thereby rationalize the suspension of the writ of habeas corpus in 1971 and subsequently the imposition of martial rule in 1972.

The Filipino is already tired of tyranny - especially from a fellow Filipino. He is a free spirit and it can only put up with dictatorships for a short while - countless revolutions during the Spanish era is a testament to this. It was only a matter of time before Marcos is booted out of office. Martial Law was unnecessary during the time of Marcos. He should have just left office when it was his time to go. He just saw it as an opportunity to perpetuate himself in power. He buried the Philippines in debt from 360m when he came to office to 28B when he left. He was the primary reason why the insurgency grew from an insignificant number to a force 16 to 20 thousand strong. His regime is responsible for the death and torture of thousands of Filipinos: 3,257 “salvaged” (summarily executed), 35,000 tortured, and 70,000 incarcerated, as documented by historian Alfred McCoy. . Many of which are still missing up to our time.

    Never again!

  • I'll never forget the Marcos regime, it was... scary and stupid at the same time... lalo na ang Martial Law na yan. However it did show the resilience of Filipinos and a lot of people sacrificed their own freedom to inspire others to say no to a tyrant.

It is stup!d that millions of Filipinos should allow their lives and destinies to be controlled by one man. The era of dictatorships are now over. In the middle east we saw the violent overthrow of every dictator from Saddam to Gaddafi and a host of other sons of b!tches who think that they know what's best for everyone. Never again should we surrender our rights to a few moreso to just one person. And we must exert all effort to fight for those rights not only for ourselves but to ensure the freedom of future generations as well. The solution to our woes lies in ourselves and not on a dictator. We must learn our lesson - that it is only through our concerted effort can we lift our country from the quagmire of poverty. We must all believe in ourselves and we must love our country.

I recall that when Maj. General Victor Corpus, now Malacañang Civil Relations Chief in charge of the Palace "war room", came to see me in my home in 1976, just before he went in to "surrender" to one of his Philippine Military Academy classmates (he was ordered "arrested" instead and slapped into military prison), Corpus revealed that it had been Joma Sison who had ordered the Plaza Miranda bombing in 1970 – not the Marcos government.

Mind you, Corpus had fought alongside Joma as an NPA Commander for almost six years, following his raid on the PMA armory in Baguio in 1970, when he (1st Lt. Corpus) defected to the Communist rebels, bringing PMA Browning automatic rifles, machineguns, and other weapons with him. Corpus told me he was heartsick and disillusioned with the movement, and the "executions" ordered of high-ranking and loyal NPAs by their own leadership, including Joma himself.

Mga Islamists ang nagpupumilit ng ganyan para ihambing ang paniniwala nyo sa kanila ng dahan dahan. Martial Law, batas Militar, Death Penalty eh ganyan ang Islam. Batas ni Muhammad (dictator for life) ang masusunod. Sin tax law, tingin nyo idea nyo yan? Ayaw sa alak ng Islam so may ganyan. RH Bill tingin nyo idea nyo yan?

    4. Despite the 1992 judgment of the Council of State, the Dutch Ministry of Justice refused to grant asylum to Prof. Sison. It also ignored the repeal of the Anti-Subversion Law by the Philippine government in 1992 and the consequent dismissal of the charge of subversion against Prof. Sison by the Pasig city court and the related nullification of the specifications against him. It likewise disregarded the resolution of the Manila city prosecutors in April 1994 dismissing as something based on pure speculation the 1991 complaint of multiple murder arising from the Plaza Miranda bombing in 1971. It continued to use the false charges against Prof. Sison and argue that to grant him asylum would run counter to the commitment and credibility of the Dutch state to its allies. Further, it cited raw intelligence dossiers to fabricate the claim that he is in contact with "terrorist" organizations. It was thus already using the "terrorist" label against him as early as in the years from 1990 to 1994.

Enrile discussed the Plaza Miranda bombing in his book.

Salonga, in his own autobiography, suspects that Sison and the CPP were behind the blast. Retired Major General Victor Corpus, a former New People's Army, had also accused Sison of ordering the bombing.

Sison, however, said the military failed to prove their accusation against him and the CPP before the Senate blue ribbon and justice committees.

"The Manila city prosecutors in a resolution on March 2, 1994 dismissed the charge as something based on sheer speculation," he said, also citing a certification from the Department of Justice dated April 20, 1998, confirming the dismissal of the charge against him.

as an activist during my college years, I was disillusioned with Joma when we found out that he was out partying and having a lavish lifestyle outside of the country while his cadres are dying out there in the mountains fighting for a philosophy that Joma himself doesn't seems to sincerely believe......

I'd take Corpuz confession as against Joma's rhetoric knowing that Corpuz himself was a cadre whose exploits as a communist were well-documented.....Corpuz, who's a known Marcos enemy, surely won't absolve the former strongman of the Plaza Miranda bombing if it wasn't the truth.......

I am also an activist during my high school years and one of the senators who fought against Marcos during the martial law years in the old republic is an uncle of mine. No charges against Sison prospered in court and were eventually dismissed. That is what matters and not hearsay evidence:

Prior to Martial Law, marcos claimed about 2,000 armed NPAS, thus the need for Martial Law. By the time he was removed from power, armed rebels were more than 10x that many. Marcos was the greatest recruiter of rebels and fomenter of rebellion.

I truly wish there is hell. It seems unfair that he is not being roasted right now.
