Here's the way I see it...

Genesis 1:1 is a Preface - The Story of the Beginning of our Physical World
Genesis 1:2 Tells us the condition of the deep before our physical world was.
Genesis 1:3 The bringing forth of LIGHT before anything is made that was made.
Genesis 1:4 The division of light from darkness - the first work of old.
Genesis 1:5 The evening and the morning the first day.

As you can see, based on the above perspective, our physical heaven and earth is still non-existence on the 1st Day of Creation.

this is the way i see it

Genesis 1:2 = Universe is still at primordial state.
Genesis 1:3 = Light was created.
Genesis 1:4 = Light was made distinct from its absence, light becoming an entity in the universe.
Genesis 1:5 = Creation of time

Gen. 1:6-8 shows that the Firmament or Heaven, as God calls it in Gen. 1:8 was formed on the 2nd Day.

The narrative of Gen. 1:1-2 is speaking of the period BEFORE the 1st Day.

Jesus speaks of this time, in the Garden of Gethsemane:

And now, O Father, glorify thou Me with Thine Own Self with the Glory which I had with Thee BEFORE the world was." John 17:5

Glory is brightness, a physical trait. Jesus is speaking of the brightness of his glory which he shared to the Father before the world was. Before the world was can only be the first day.

If one believes that In the beginning God created the Heavens (Plural) BEFORE the 1st Day, then the Words of Jesus would seem to be in error.

If one believes that the 1st Firmament or Heaven was formed on the 2nd Day, then it would agree with Jesus, and would show that Jesus, the Light of Heaven, came forth (not created) into this physical World from the invisible realm of the Father (Gen. 1:3)..... before the 1st Heaven was formed....

Jesus, the Son, became the only God physically formed for us to see and witness... before him there was none... neither there shall be after him.

He was known as the Lord God of Old.... who represented the express image of the INVISIBLE ALMIGHTY GOD FATHER (bodily or physically).... unto Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and others in the Old Testament.

NO MAN HATH SEEN THE INVISIBLE ALMIGHTY GOD FATHER AT ANYTIME.

God tells us we live in a Multiverse composed of at least 3 Universes. The first was totally destroyed in the Flood. ll Peter 3:6 The present Universe will be burned. ll Peter 3:10 The third Heaven is forever. Rev. 22:5 No man could have possilby known this and wrote it 3k years ago.

Here are other Truths in Genesis:

God also tells us that Adam was made the 3rd Day after the Earth was made but BEFORE the plants grew. Gen. 2:4-7 The Earth was made the 3rd Day. Gen. 1:9-10 The plants GREW on the 3rd Day. Gen. 1:12

This shows that the first Human, Adam, was formed of the dust of the ground LONG BEFORE ANY other living creature, before the plants, herbs, trees, Sun, Moon, Stars of our Cosmos, and "EVERY other living creature that moves" which came forth from the water on Day 5.

Therefore, Human could NOT have evolved from the common ancestor of Chimps because Humans were made BILLIONS of years BEFORE our Solar system was complete some 6 Billion years ago. Adam was made as Christians will be in Heaven. We will live in incorruptible bodies for Eternity. This is evident when we look at the Day man was first formed of the dust.

It was the 3rd Day, the SAME Day as the Big Bang of our Universe. Gen. 2:4 Adam was alive on the first Earth BEFORE the first Stars put forth their Light in our Cosmos. Genesis 2:4-7

The reason I know that Genesis is True is because it explains HOW and WHEN prehistoric man because Human. Evolution is wrong because it has NO mechanism for producing Human intelligence in Apes. This is because we MUST inherit whatever we have through sexual relations of our parents. Evolution enters the world of Magic when it tries to convince us that we magically evolved our intelligence from mindless Nature, apart from the way we inherit everything else.

In the day Adam and Eve were CREATED on the image and likeness of God, both have already committed their "original sin"..... and this event took place long after Cain had already killed Abel.

Clearly, based on the Scripture, the actual first formation of the firmament of heaven took place on the 2nd day Genesis 1:6-8.... NOT Genesis 1:1 which I believe to be... just a PREFACE of the Story of the Beginning.

Genesis 1:6-8 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. v7 And God MADE the FIRMAMENT, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. v8 And God called the firmament HEAVEN. Panbabylonists believe the creation myth in the Book of Genesis came from older Mesopotamian creation myths. The Mesopotamian creation myths are recorded in the Enûma Eliš (or Enuma Elish), the Atra-Hasis, the 'Eridu Genesis' and on the 'Barton Cylinder'. In the Enûma Eliš there are six generations of gods, created one after the other. Each god is associated with something, such as sky or earth. This parallels the six days of creation in Genesis, where Elohim (plural) creates a different thing on each day.

In the Enûma Eliš, the sixth-generation god Marduk consults with other gods and decides to make mankind as servants, so that the gods can rest. Likewise, Elohim makes mankind on the sixth day (saying "let us make mankind in our image") and then rests.

No... The light came forth (not created) before anything else is made! Without the True Light (the Son) being brought forth.... that shineth in darkness upon the face of the deep (Gen. 1:3) .... nothing is made that was made. Because ALL things physical in this world was made by hands of the Lord (the Son).

John 1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. v9 That was the TRUE LIGHT, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. v10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

Here is the chronology of the 7 Days or Ages of Creation of the THIRD Heaven:. (Sourced)

Before the first Day, God created air and ground without form and darkness/death was upon everything He had made, so God said: Let there be Light. Gen 1:1-2

Day 1- Jesus came forth into the physical world to defeat the death which was upon everything God had made. His Image is brighter than the Noonday Sun. Gen 1:3

Day 2- Jesus made a firmament or boundary of Adam's world and placed it in the midst or middle of the Water, and God called it "HEAVEN". Gen 1:6-8

Day 3- Jesus made Adam's Earth and another two HeavenS, but before He made the plants, He made man of the dust of the ground. Gen 2:4-7

Day 4- The first Stars of our 2nd Heaven put forth their light into our Cosmos, which began as the Big Bang, on the 3rd Day Gen 2:4

Day 5- Every living creature that moves was created and brought forth from the water by God, on the 5th Day. Gen 1:21

Day 6- Jesus makes the beasts of the field and birds, Adam names them, and then Jesus makes Eve...... Adam sins and is cast from the Garden. A&E have two sons and Cain kills Abel...... Then man began to call upon the name of the Lord..... Then God speaks AGAIN..... Let US make man in OUR Image and likeness. Gen 1:26 and Gen 5:1-2 Adam and Eve were BOTH "created in God's Image" or In Christ. They were born again Spiritually, just as ALL of mankind MUST be born again in order to inherit the Third Heaven, the object of the 6 Creative Days.

This brings us up to the present TIME, today, 2014 for God is STILL creating Adam (Heb-mankind) in His Image or in Christ, TODAY.

The end of the present 6th Day is in the Future because the events of Gen 1:28-31 are Prophecy of things which will not happen until AFTER Jesus returns to this Earth at the end of the present 6th Day. Isaiah 11 tells us that AFTER Jesus returns the Lion will eat Straw like the Ox. Isa 11:7 Has everyone heard that the Lion will lay down by the Lamb when Jesus returns? Now, you know that it will happen TODAY, on the present 6th Age. The 7th Day or God's rest is FUTURE. Heb 4:9

Isaiah 46:9-10 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, v10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

The above is what Genesis is actually teaching about the Creation of the Third Heaven where ALL Christians will live forever on the 7th Day, because the 7th Day is Eternity and has NO end.
