A top official of PLDT announced that the company will be willing to refund fans who bought tickets to the event featuring Gilas Pilipinas and NBA players on Tuesday at SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Fans inside the stadium booed lustily after it was announced that instead of an exhibition game, Gilas will merely participate in an open practice with the NBA stars.

But while expressing the company's willingness to refund fans, PLDT executive vice president Ariel Fermin reminded them that proceeds of the event would go to charity.

"Tulungan niyo kaming tulungan yung ibang tao," he told the audience. "After all, this is really for a good cause."

The second game of the series scheduled on Wednesday has also been cancelled. Fans who wish to get refunds can call PLDT hotlines 836-5818, 836-5890, and 836-5819 starting July 22 at 9 a.m.

On Twitter, Inquirer assistant sports editor Francis Ochoa also quoted Fermin as saying that the company never advertised that there would be a game.

But according to a report by Snow Badua on Spin.ph, a representative from the NBA informed organizers that the players were barred from playing in what was an unsanctioned league game.

NBA players James Harden, DeMar DeRozan, Brandon Jennings, Kyle Lowry, Damian Lillard, Terrence Ross, Kawhi Leonard, Tyson Chandler, Matt Barnes, Ed Davis, and Nick Johnson were supposed to take the court against Gilas in the event.
