I have an obvious confession. I am obsessed with Credit Cards. Don't get me wrong, I don't actually have problems with Credit Card Debts; I'm just so fascinated with these plastics that I keep on having them and yes... loving them.

Back in June 2012, when the manager from my Allied Bank branch asked me if I wanted to be endorsed for a credit card and was eventually got approved, I started my obsession. At first, I thought it was just fun to collect and select. So I applied for a BPI Credit Card and got approved also. And then I applied for an RCBC Bankard and got approved. Until such time that I had EIGHT (8) Credit Cards in my wallet. It was fun to manage it in the beginning. But actually, it is still fun for me to look at my cards and just love them. (I sound really crazy now, right?)

Actually, I wanted one of each from the six payment processors available in the Philippines which are: MasterCard, Visa, JCB, China UnionPay, American Express, and Diners Club. I have four of them from different banks and I just lack Amex and CUP to complete my collection!

Now here's my problem... I wake up in the evening and open my wallet and just stare on it for quite a long time and just smile at it. Weird?! I REALLY AM WEIRD! I keep on changing wallets and rearranging cards to ensure that it would always look nice.

I just wanted to share this. Since I joined the forums in April of last year, I am always glad to read entries from members. And I even try to be proactive about it.

I would like to share lang may experience with credit cards. Nung gumraduate ako ng college at nagka work sa isang malaking bank sa malate, i tried applying agad for a credit card pero laging declined. Maybe kasi wala akong any credit history and kaka start ko lang non sa work. Yun yung very first card ko and as soon as nag 1 year yung bankard ko napa convert ko sya to gold and dun na din sabay sabayang nagdatingan ang mga offers from other credit card companies.

In short nagkaron ako ng credit card application addiction. I have 12 credit cards now and parang ayoko pang tumigil. I want more of that feeling!

Alam nyo ba never pa nga ako naging revolver eh. I always pay in full.

I feel so secured din na if ever may mangyare may mapaghuhugutan ako.

Guys if may ma a-advice kayo sakin please dont hesitate. Do i need to seek a professional help na ba? Kahit lecture-an nyo pa ko i dont mind. Im willing to listen and to learn. Thank you.

Maraming makakarelate sayo niyan dito. Madami sila.

    @SamNicole,

I can't tell you whether to drop or keep your credit cards. After all, you're still able to pay the full balance every month. However, if I were you I would think about seeking professional help.

Simply put, you are wasting money. Ikaw na may may sabi, you only use 4 to 5 credit cards and yung iba pang pakapal wallet lang. Yes, you are able to get the annual fees waived, but there is a spending requirement. So hindi ka nakakatipid. You are forcing yourself to spend money just to keep the credit card.

It might not seem like an issue now since you're able to afford it. But what if, wag naman sana, you find yourself in a difficult financial situation?

The fact that you're able to afford all those CCs is not an excuse to spend. You are better off saving and investing your money to make them grow.

Your statement "I feel so secured din na if ever may mangyare may mapaghuhugutan ako"...Hindi dahil maram kang credit card financially secure ka. And wag naman, what if you or a loved one gets a serious medical condition or accident?
You want to feel secure? Save and invest your money. If you are already investing and saving, invest more. Don't away your money on credit cards.

You yourself said the joy you feel in getting a credit card approval is fleeting. So it's best to get your kicks somewhere else :)

I don't think your type of addiction poses a danger to society. As long as all the negative consequences will only affect yourself and nobody else, then you should be fine.

Since you said your addiction is not really about credit cards "per se", but the orgasm you get when you have your application approved, then why not take your addiction to the next level ?? Try to apply for a higher credit limit to make it more challenging. Try to get a credit limit of 5 million pesos (for starters).

Let me boost your enthusiasm. Look at it this way, what's the point of getting 12 credit cards with low credit limits, right ?? Imagine buying a Mitsubishi Montero Sport by just swiping your credit card. Imagine all the points you will get.

And if you want the ultimate challenge to your addiction, the so-called career ending challenge of all, you need to apply for the Black Credit Card. Only when you get approved for this card, can you really say you have turned your addiction into an art form.

isnt it that the black credit card is by invitation only?

For that kind or actually any kind of addiction, read the Power of Habit. You'll learn a lot from that book.

Yup. Kaya ultimate challenge. :D

The AMEX Black Centurion Card is NOT a credit card. It's a CHARGE CARD, and it's by invitation only to long time AMEX Platinum CHARGE CARD holders. AMEX charge cards have premium rewards and benefits in contrast to their credit card division.

The AMEX Credit Cards division does not offer a black card. It has cheaper annual fees and the rewards and benefits are not at par with it's charge card division.

BDO in partnership with AMEX only offers credit cards, not charge cards.

As long as your obsession is not illegal and is not harmful to others, then it should be fine.

But is your obsession weird ?? To answer that, you have to compare your obsession with others.

OMG sir Agapito i just checked the link out :rotflmao::rotflmao::rotflmao::rotflmao:

Pero seriously speaking tama si sir. I also think na theres nothing wrong with your CC obsession. As long as you have self control at hindi ka nababaon sa utang cos of it. I think as long as you can afford your obsession, hindi illegal at hindi non sinisira ang buhay mo at nino man i guess its fine.

    LoL @ Agapito

I cannot be compared to that kind of obsession naman. Hahaha!

    Paano annual fees?

How do you keep track of payment due dates?

I am fortunate that all of their due dates differ. And I don't use them all at the same time. When I was in Thailand with my wife, I used three different ones. And then after a month noong sa HK with our children, ibang tatlong card na naman.

I wrote the due dates on the back of the cards (in Chinese! Hahaha!) so that I remember the due dates. Ayun, so far so good. Oh yeah, about the annual fees? All are waived kasi iyung Maybank, three years waived daw pala. PNB Gold Visa ko (600 lang naman), waived ang Metrobank, 2 BDO, BPI, 2 RCBC Bankard, Diners Club and East West ko.
