Natural ang English nila, wala kang maririnig na maraming fillers tulad ng "like", "you know, "uhm" o "er".

^ those are casual english terminologies.

I would not frown upon the usage of it as it is casual. But I would refrain from using it if I am the model of the kid.

Kids will learn the vernacular on their own :*) I used to be obsessed din wit my spoken English when I found employment in the BPO world. Most of us are not news anchors, just regular juans and juana's so I don't see the point of using business-level English. I love hearing Filipino accent. It's unique! It's actually too much work tryna speak English with a different agenda other than to communicate a message but that's just me, spontaneity/well-versedness over accent, efficacy over style. ;)
  • Do not worry too much about accent. The most important things are to speak clearly and talk with substance. And practice, practice, practice.

Too bad there is some stigma with speaking English in the Philippines. If you are not very good, you are laughed at. If you are, people see you as arrogant. Damned if you, damned if you don't.

I like the newscaster voice of Pat Fernandez. It's so sexy.

They only consider it arrogant if the person responds in English when spoken to in Tagalog. But if they speak English and Tagalog fluently, people are more accepting.

But what if I want to respond in English all the time because I wish to practice my English. Why would that be seen as arrogant?

    simulate - SIGH-myu-leyt / SEE-myu-leyt
    reptile - REP-tayl / REP-teel
    derby - DUHR-bee / DAHR-bee
    schedule - SKED-yool / SHED-yool

They are alternate pronunciations which are all acceptable.

Because they expect you to respond to them in Tagalog. They don't know that you're responding in English because you want to practice the language. Unless of course they know you that well.

The language used should not matter as long as everyone is understood. They can understand English ergo they should not feel slighted by the use of English.

Another BS I hear again and again. Yung super sireyna ng Eat Bulaga. Yung mga contestants dun, napakatrying hard magEnglish. Yung tipong "My parents wants.." Napapawew na lang ako. Pati yung pagbigkas napakawannabe.

Okay for me, okay nga yung mga newcaster magEnglish.

Kahit english pag-usap sakin. Except na lang kung formal occasions. Napakamonotone kasi ng English ko.

They will not improve if they do not even attempt to express themselves in English. They should be encouraged instead of disparaged.
