Teener's first car

What's a good car for a new 17yo ( in 4 months, 17yo na son ko) driver?
My choices are:
Used: 2 door pajero, terrano or jimny.
Brand new: jimny
Sa paranaque area niya gagamitin, so bahain yata doon.
Gusto ko sana m/t siya masanay.

Sobrang sikip at tagtag ng Jimny. Two door pa.
My kabarkada is a HS teacher sa isang all girls school na mejo well-off ang mga nag-aaral. She teaches mga 16 y.o. na 3RD yr kids and sabi niya, karamihan sa mga girls they get an A/T 'toy car' when they're 16. Toy cars are the kia picanto, rio , hyundai i10 etc to help them practice their driving.
But since your kid is a guy, I'm sure matutuwa yan pag binigyan mo ng GT 86. Langya, mga kabarkada kong lalake (we're in our 30s now) na may asawa at pamilya na, sinasabi nila kung wala silang commander na kumokntrol ng finances nila or mga palamunin na mga maliliit na anak, bibili sila ng GT86
so yun, if you give your son a GT86, mahal na mahal ka na ng anak mo.0 -
Hmmm.. you can also try the old body Nissan Safari those are built like tanks. Also, if you like a "timeless" design you can opt for the Isuzu Crosswind. The 2001 Crosswind hasn't changed from the current model except for some cosmetic upgrades like chrome. Mind me asking, what would be your budged for this vehicle because that will be the baseline for everything.0

My vote also goes to the Nissan Safari but the old Fieldmaster as well as the LC90 Prado are also good options. It's harder to find M/T versions of the Fieldmaster though.
I myself still own a Pajero Fieldmaster. I also have the new version of the Pajero but I still prefer the Fieldmaster for its reliability and ease of maintenance.0 -
@Kill, J. Luna. Ok nga yan LC, Prado and Safari.
I hadn't thought of that. Among yan sa mga choices ko since girly din ako, i hadn't considered its probable effect on my son's image. So out na ang "toy cars," kahit matipid mga ito sa FC.
I had to google GT86. Ang masasabi ko lang. NO! (sorry, nakakagulat ang ganda eh). Nung bata pa anak ko, he wanted R8, Camaro, Mustang and those evo something because of Iron Man, Transformers and those arcade car games. I've always told him to study hard, find a job or get a business para ma-afford niya mga ito. Doesn't matter kung mahal ako ng anak ko, what's important is mahal ko siya. *blush*
And it's small at hindi takaw pansin, walang yabang factor. Kaya lang gasoline variant lang yata.
@3cylinder, ok, out na modified 2door pajero.

Ganda talaga jimny for serious use.
Hi daddy/mommy, paampon
Nissan terrano eh maganda for me.
but kung ako ang anak mo, gusto ko eh Ford Escape all new0 -
@rational, Yup, i'm really leaning towards jimny, hindi ko pa lang din sure kung second hand or brand new.
@exgirlfriend, ang choices daw niya lambo, porche, or ferrari. Yeah right.. libre naman mangarap.0 -

Have you looked at ford ecosport? Parang matangkad na fiesta siya. About same price.0 -
Has he driven anything before? My first car was a brand new corolla which became a bump car needing so much body and mechanical work within a year. My dad said he should have given me a used car first.
Used Jimnys can be had for around 300,000 only. He can use that for a year first and if he's able to be responsible enough not to get into any mishaps, then you can give him something nicer.0 -
I agree with Kill.
@True_orange:
magaling na bata, magaling pipili0 -
@exgirlfriend, yeah.
@rational, mukhang maganda nga yan Ecosport, kung mas makakababa pa ako ng price, so much better for me.
Gusto ko sana madali imaintain, or maski mabaha, madali iparepair. Never mind yun scratches, ganun talaga pag new driver, hindi pwedeng hindi sasabit.
@kill, pag binili ko siya ng car, kahit brand new or second hand, yun na sana yun. Kung gusto niya palitan, from his own pocket na.

I see. In this case then, for ease of maintenance get a car with as few electronics as possible. For a brand new car, the Jimny is pretty basic and is pretty easy to maintain provided you have a source for the parts. Don't bother with the sx4.
An older car like a Safari, Fieldmaster or Prado would need more maintenance due to age but if he's into cars, then learning about maintenance is good. As with all old school diesels, religious changing of the engine oil as well as the oil, air and fuel filters is a must and perhaps regular greasing.
An everest would also be a good option. They're pretty good at handling floods.0 -

Ah OK. A used Jimny nga siguro.
Make sure na reliable.

I would go for a cheap Corolla small-body (pwede rin big-body). Mura lang, matipid sa gas and its a Toyota. Driving in the arcades is not an indication of driving competence. Out there, there is no reset button.0 -
^ true there Kelunji.
Oo nga tama si rational, dapat yung reliable din yung hindi masisira, kasi mahirap for his age ang masiraan lalo na kung hindi niya kabisado yung lugar.0 -

Copy that. Ok yan matuto siya magrepair ng engine or kahit maintenance and trouble shooting lang, pwedeng pagkakitaan, but then i'll probably not hear the end of his complaints every time he gets an engine trouble and can't fix it.Ah OK. A used Jimny nga siguro.

Especially pag gumimick sila sa Tagaytay or Batangas.I would go for a cheap Corolla small-body (pwede rin big-body). Oo naman.
Corolla.. pwede rin. I remember my first car, sa kapal ng masilya, puro bangga kasi, para nang armored car sa bigat. Pawis steering pa.Exgirlfriend wrote: »^ true there Kelunji.

Hindi pa namin kabisado yun new place niya as of now. Pero he'll be living there and the school is only about a kilometer away.. Though no choice kami for now kasi hindi pa siya puwede magdrive on his own. And i'm so far away, wala akong other means para maprotect siya.you can also opt for an isuzu trooper or a sangyong rexton.
Isuzu trooper, gusto ko rin yan. Thanks.0
