Step into Wanderland:
Revel in a World of Music Fancy

Step right up and witness one spectacular event set to take your concert experience beyond imagination: the Wanderland Music and Arts Festival 2014, a festival by Karpos Multimedia presented by River Island and Globe. May 17 marks this much-awaited gathering where Wanderers can go to celebrate youth and pour out their hearts in the open field of the Globe Circuit Events Ground in Makati.

This year, more wonderful things await you as you step into the ultimate sonic playground. You’ll be moving to the music of sought after international and local bands that will fuel your drive for a rockin’ good time. The festival encounter just got more exciting as well, as the Wanderland monsters take you to the Carnival. Set to heighten the thrills are the River Island Wanderwheel, the High Striker and carnival games such as Feed the Monster, Ring My Nose, Wanderball, Balloon Pop and Crazy Cans. The Art Island, which will showcase Live Art by Anjo Bolarda, JP Cuison and Dee Jae Pa’este among other art activities plus the Food Island where an assortment of food selections at the festival, await revelers as well.

Headlining Wanderland is the American indie pop band from New York, The Drums, composed of Jonny Pierce, Jacob Graham and Connor Hanwick , best known for their ‘80’s style surf rock’ music. As soon as their EP ‘Summertime’ came out late 2009, the band’s rise to popularity seemed unstoppable. This popularity was backed up by several distinctions, as they placed No. 5 for the BBC Sound Of 2010, No.1 in NME's top tips for the year, and No. 1 in Clash Magazine's Tips for 2010. They were also voted ‘Best Hope for 2010’ in Pitchfork Media's 2009 Readers' Poll. The band took home the Hall Radar Award at the 2010 NME (New Musical Express) Awards. Currently, their third album is already finished, and eager fans are awaiting for its official release.

About to grace the stage with soothing melodies and rhythmic vibes is The Paper Kites, a five piece indie folk troupe from Melbourne, who recently garnered a whirlwind success with a sold out headline tour of the USA and Canada. With a strong reputation for creating innovative and mesmerizing video clips which have attracted over 10 million YouTube views, The Paper Kites’ live presence is just as impressive.

Sure to get things rolling is Swedish breakout indie rock band, The Royal Concept, whose addictive pop anthems have gained them international recognition. Their following started to grow rapidly after their track “D-D-Dance” became a huge hit. Global hype came next for the band with their second single, “Gimme Twice” spreading across blogs all over the world and becoming the most added at track radio for three weeks right after its release.

Critically acclaimed Brisbane quartet Last Dinosaurs whose debut album received praise and created a buzz in the international indie scene, English songtress Lucy Rose, who became known for her fragile vocals conquering fans from festival to festival including her very own headlining tour and Australian pop powerhouse Architecture in Helsinki, best known for their defining unique sound and their diverse instrumental palette, will be shaking up the Wanderland stage as well. Get ready to be blown away too by Aussie rising star Woody Pitney , OPM heavyweight Franco, Electro sensation Techy Romantics, along with fresh homegrown talents from Wanderband - The Ransom Collective, Brisom, and Chocolate Grass.

Tickets are originally priced at Php 4800, but from April 27 – May 10, Eager Wanderer tickets priced at Php 3,800 will be available at all SM Tickets and Ticketnet outlets.

    The Drums
    thedrums.jpg

Emerging from Brooklyn via Florida in 2009, The Drums initially caught the ear of the indie world with their Summertime! EP. It was an escapist collection of beach pop fantasies; tracks suffused with a wistful, longing nostalgia that never pandered to cheap sentimentality. Their rise, particularly in the UK, was meteoric. Early buzz led to a prestigious spot on the BBC Sound of 2010 shortlist, followed in short succession by a slot on the Shockwaves NME Tour in 2009, and the publication's Phillip Hall Radar Award in early 2010, well before the album's release that summer.

Portamento, the new album, reveals a band tugging lightly at the boundaries of their sound while still retaining their recognizable sonic signatures -- sweet rushes of melody, winsome lyrics, and brittle synthesizer sheens colliding with wiry Spector-esque guitar and bass lines.

    The Paper Kites
    news2.jpg

Melbourne’s much loved folk five-piece, The Paper Kites have enjoyed a whirlwind six months since the release of their highly anticipated debut album, States.

Following on from a successful national tour, the band embarked on a sold out headline tour of the USA and Canada as well as an illustrious support slot alongside Canadian singer- songwriter, City and Colour.

Reigning in at #17 on the ARIA Charts, debut album States received a number of impressive accolades for sophomore single, Young, including a J Award nomination for Australian Music Video of The Year as well as ranking 27th in Rage’s Top 50 Music Videos of 2013.

    Last Dinosaurs
    ld.jpg

LAST DINOSAURS produce eclectic indie-rock tunes with a unique blend of tropical beats and ambient guitar riffs. Comprised of brothers Sean and Lachlan Caskey, Dan Koyama and Michael Sloane, the group has been playing together since late 2007.

“In A Million Years” is the band’s debut album, recorded in Sydney at BJB Studios with JP Funk. Producer Elliot James (Kaiser Chiefs, Does It Offend You Yeah?, Two Door Cinema Club) mixed the album. “In A Million Years” was released in Australia on famed label Dew Process, and reached the top 10 in Australian charts. It was released in the UK on label Fiction, home to bands such as The Maccabees and Crystal Castles.

The sounds of Last Dinosaurs have attracted the attention of high profilemusicians around the world, with praise being heaped on the band by Bloc Party’s Russell Lissack tweeting “Can't stop listening to @lastdinosaurs album, check it out. Best guitar work I've heard in a long time”.

    The Royal Concept
    royalconcept.jpg

If you’re a indie rock band from Stockholm, Sweden, you really have to go the extra mile to stand out against the burgeoning EMD scene. The Royal Concept had barely existed for a year, and had played only a handful of shows before they’d amassed thunderous word of mouth from those lucky enough to catch them live.

The release of their second single “Gimme Twice” early 2012 started a serious buzz with blogs all over the globe. “Gimme Twice,” hit No. 3 on Hype Machine, while becoming the No. 1 most-popular track on We Are Hunted. At the same time “D-D-Dance,” was propelled to No. 2 on Hype Machine.

The band finished out 2012 touring with the whose-who of the indie rock darlings list; playing shows with The Wombats, Wolf Gang, Morning Parade, and Atlas Genius.

    Lucy Rose
    lucyrose.jpg

With her star firmly in the ascendant, Warwickshire songstress Lucy Rose is making her own destiny and shaping her future like no other new artist. A mixture of true grit, sheer dedication and an unshakeable sense of self has all led Lucy to the kind of status that most new artists dream of. Her heart-stoppingly poignant songs and cracked porcelain voice saw her enter her career with YouTube hits, radio plays and crowds like nobody else out there.

Her critically acclaimed debut album Like I Used To truly embodied the very essence of her personality and honest approach to music and song writing. Following the album release Lucy embarked on a huge tour schedule which saw her performing to vast crowds all around the world and firmly placing her amongst the most exciting female artists out there.

    Architecture in Helsinki
    architecture.jpg

Architecture In Helsinki, one of Australia’s most infectious and beloved pop bands, released their highly anticipated new album ‘NOW + 4EVA’ on Friday 28th March 2014. Running the emotional gamut from Deep Blue thru Yellow magic to Pink Pop confection, 'NOW + 4EVA' is sure to warm the hearts and expand the minds of new and long term fans alike.

‘NOW + 4EVA’, the band's latest album, follows the band’s highly-acclaimed 2011 release ‘Moment Bends’ which peaked at # 12 on the ARIA charts and came in at # 8 in triple j’s 2011 Album Poll. The highly polished pop sound the band developed on ‘Moment Bends’ reaches an even brighter level on ‘NOW + 4EVA’; as the album’s first two singles, “In The Future” and “Dream A Little Crazy” vibrantly attest.

    Woody Pitney
    woodyp.png

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, 23 year old singer/songwriter Woody Pitney brings his live show to Manila for the first time. Along with his 6-piece band, his unique blend of Pop, Folk and Country music will bring a smile to your face as you're grooving along!

"We expect to hear plenty from this young and gifted performer, he is on the path to success" you can read on the webzine Indie Shuffle, and his current single 'You Can Stay' is a strong start to fleetingly stroll into the summertimes.

His homerecorded gem 'You Can Stay' went through two weeks of development. Mumford & Sons or Of Monsters & Men come to mind (adamnoteve.net), the song's catchiness mainly being carried by Pitney's soothing voice.

    1. Are you excited about playing in Wanderland? What are you most excited about?

Absolutely! We cant wait to get to Manila and play at Wanderland. We have always wanted to play in Asia, and this will be our first ever show in the continent!

    2. How often do you actually get to fly kites?

Well to be honest, never. I remember flying kites as a kid but that’s about it. We chose our band name a few years ago cos we liked how it sounded.

    3. What was it like shooting the music video for your latest single, Tenenbaum?

The video was shot in Sydney so none of us actually attended the shoot. Sam (Bentley) just spoke allot with the director (Michael Haydon) in the lead up and we then left it to Mike. He did a great job and we are really happy with the result.

    4. In what places do you like to wander off to the most?

When we are on tour we rarely get windows of time off, but when we do, the five of us usually wander off in search of good food, good coffee, and something interesting to do. Recently while on tour in Canada we found ourselves at a local ice hockey game. It was allot of fun!

    5. If you could collaborate with anyone who’s from a totally different genre, who would it be and why?

I think it would be really cool if The Paper Kites collaborated with Daft Punk. They are brilliant at building and structuring songs, and I would love the opportunity to work with them. I would also insist on wearing a mysterious helmet throughout the project so as to conceal my identity.

    6. If the story of your music journey would become a movie, what would be the title?

    The Neverending Story

    7. You’ve gained quite a success with the release of your album, a headline tour of North America, as well as playing alongside City and Colour, how does it feel to finally be able to come back to your country, Australia, for a national tour?

We are really excited about touring locally again. We spent a long time touring overseas, which was fantastic, but we get a great deal of satisfaction out of playing in Australia. Its always good to be home!

    8. Cotton candy or popcorn? Why?

I am going to vote for popcorn. I am not a sweet tooth, so I like popcorn with butter and salt!

    9. Do you have any weird or funny rituals or mantras before heading out and playing live shows?

Leading up to show time we tend to relax, focus ourselves, and warm up or voices, and then right before we play, we have a song that we sing. Its really silly, but its tradition.

    10. It’s amazing how your video clips have attracted over 10 million Youtube views! What do you think is the main factor for this strong online reputation?

Im not really sure to be honest. We always work really hard at creating good visual accompaniments for our songs. It is important to not just throw together something to watch. We always try to make a video that makes you want to hit replay as soon as it finishes.

    11. If you were to mount your own music festival, what would you call it? Who will be playing?

Ive never really thought about it so lets just say I’ll call it Wanderland and we will be there with bells on!

    12. Your music video for ‘Young’, which is made up of over 4000 photos, is mesmerizing. How did you come up with that concept?

It was actually pitched to us by the team at ‘Oh Yeah Wow’ (google them) and we loved it. Close to 500 people attended the shoot and each person had to sit perfectly still and make funny faces at the camera. It was great fun!

    1. What are your expectations for Wanderland 2014?

I hope there will be lots of crazy people like last time we played in Manila. Everyone was super super cool there. I wanna see them again

    2. What was your initial reaction to the amazing reception and success that your debut album ‘In A Million Years’ got?

I was pleased. It’s cool to know people are listening and liking the music.

    3. What was your favorite part of your South African tour last September?

Going on safaris and seeing all the big cats. The coolest one was a black leopard.

    4. Do you guys have a favorite performance? Where was it and why is it a favorite?

No particular performance but the whole South East Asia tour was just the absolute best. Went to the most amazing places and got time to explore most of them. Although i was just thinking the other day how much i wanted to explore more of Manila since we only had about 24 crazy hours to spend there. So I’m looking forward to having more fun in Manilla.

    5. What was your impression about the Philippines when you first came here last year?

First impressions are indescribable. We stayed in the seediest part of town, in the red light area, which was actually so good haha. The club we played at was so cool and had THE BEST food. I can’t wait to eat another pulled pork hot dog.

    6. We heard that French band Phoenix is one of your musical influences, have you gotten the chance to meet them in person?

No chance to meet them yet but I got up on stage when they played in Brisbane. The crowd was pushing so hard at the front that I just popped out over the barrier and then sprinted on the stage.

    7. What can fans expect for your upcoming second album?

Cooler songs. Most of the new stuff has more soul I think. As we have grown older I think we have gotten a better idea of what we think is cool.

    8. You’ve been on a lot of tours in a short span of time, what are the important lessons you learned while on the road?

Important lessons. 1 – Clothes are easy to lose. 2 – Wifi is life. 3 – Asia is the best for touring

    9. Speaking of your tours, how do you adjust to the different places that you visit?

Adjusting to different places isn’t really something we get to do. We only spend short times everywhere we go. I kind of like not being adjusted, being disconnected from a place allows you to analyse so many things. I love looking at the building and the plants when we land somewhere new. I find the differences in the small things the most fascinating.

    10. What do you enjoy most about playing live and also do you have a particular song that you love to play live?

I love seeing everyone’s faces when they are smiling or singing along. I think ‘Weekend’ would have to be my favourite to perform. Because it is dynamic and I think it has the most soul. But we have been playing some new songs too which I prefer playing more, I’m looking forward to a time when everyone knows these new songs so they can sing along.

    11. Who’s your celebrity dream date?

    Julie Bishop.

    12. Do you have any pre/post performance rituals?

Pre is usually a hi five and sacrificing a tour manager side stage. Post is usually just try get everybody to have a party.

    13. What places in the Philippines would you like to visit if you get the chance?

I’m not so sure yet. I would love to see some islands, but I don’t think we are going to have the time to go for adventures on this next trip. We need some travel advice.

    1. How do you feel about performing in Wanderland 2014 and officially becoming a Wanderer?

We're very excited. We've never been to Philippines before, but we've heard a lot of great things about it. One of my oldest friends was born there and he always tells me that it's very beautiful, so it'll be cool to finally get to see it with my own eyes.

    2. Have you ever heard any Filipino songs? What are they and do you have any favorites?

I studied music anthropology in college and I remember a Philippines dance called Tinikling, involving bamboo poles. I remember we even had to dance it in school. I haven't checked out the current music scene in your country yet but I will definitely do it when we're there. I hope we can catch some shows with local bands too!

    3. How has it been balancing international live shows while putting together your first full-length album?

We just had to record a lot of stuff in the tour bus and in hotel rooms. It was not the perfect scenario but sometimes it also helped us to be spontaneous and creative.

    4. If you would be a carnival performer, what would you be and why?

I (David) would be a giant lobster. Those claws are cool. Povel would be a humming bird…singing not so beautiful, but very powerful. Magnus would be a fox. He likes to sneak around in the shadows. Jonathan would be a shrimp because we would't let him choose an animal on his own.

    5. What’s the craziest thing a fan ever did in one of your shows?

Nothing can be too crazy. We like when people go nuts in whatever way they feel like going nuts. It really inspires us!

    6. You've been included in some big festivals in the past year. Who are some of your favorite acts that you've been on festivals with?

We saw St Vincent performing in Europe and that was fantastic. She has a unique guitar sound, which is really hard to come up with these days when almost everything is already invented. She's also a great musician and a great performer so we all feel very inspired by her.
We also saw Rufus Wainwright and his show was absolutely outstanding.

    7. If you could choose one of your band mates to be stranded in a Ferris wheel with, who would it be and why?

I think I would've picked my younger brother Jonathan cause he recently joined the band as an extra live musician and we haven't had time to hang out that much yet. So we have a lot to talk about.

But I think all four of us could find a way to fit in there so I'd like to bring the whole band.

    8. How do you compare your music to your band name, the Royal Concept?

Haha, I have no idea. The music is definitely not that conceptual…and not that royal either so maybe we have the worst band name in history? I hope the music itself can make up for that =)

    9. What are you looking forward to the most in playing in a music festival?

Just to be up there and meet the crowd is the best. We feel so blessed to have this as our full time job and that we get to do so many trips. Both emotionally and physically.

To us, a performance should be spontaneous and interacting, that's when music is absolutely the best. We all look forward to meet the crowd and let them be a part of the show.

    10. Aside from music, do you have other artistic sides that most fans don’t know about?

Magnus is a great cook and he also does most of our artwork. Povel likes to draw manga figures and he's also a good computer programmer, and a huge gamer =)

I like to write…both like articles and shorter novels.

    11. What’s a day in the life of the Royal Concept like?

This is how it is when we're touring:

We wake up in a hotel room and start driving our tour van. Sometimes we sleep on a tour bus, but we really dig driving on our own in a van. We get to see so many stuff along the road and it's great to be able to stop whenever we feel like it. We always have lunch on the road.

When we get to the venue we do a quick sound check and after that we do interviews and/or meet and greet with fans.

Then we have a couple of hours free where we usually talk a long walk in the city to explore it. We try to do tourist stuff if we have the time. Or we Skype with friends and family back home.

Then it's show time and that's always the best time of the day.

After the show we sign shirts and meet as many fans as we possible can and then we go out for dinner. That's pretty much how it is to tell you the truth.

    12. Your cover of Daft Punk’s track Digital Love was excellent. Are there any plans for future covers?

Thank you! No, not right now. We like to do covers but we have so many new songs of our own that we want to put focus on.

    13. What does being “goldrushed” mean?

I don't even know if that's a real word or if we just made it up. In our song Goldrushed, it stands for a state of mind when everything, suddenly just happens. The rush of emotions that runs trough your body when you feel like things are finally going your way.

But in the song there's also a loving, passionate relationship that makes the hole Goldrush thing very complicated. "I always end up kissing you then miss you even more and more".

    14. How do you feel about being on tour with Switchfoot? What are the highlights of the tour so far?

They are really, really nice guys and the highlights has been, beside all the great shows, to sneak into their tour bus and steel the absolutely outstanding, delicious peppermint ice cream they filled their fridge with. It's just amazing. We do it every now and then.

    15. If you were going to Wanderland as a concert goer and not as a performer, what would you be most excited about?

Just hanging out with all the people you know. I hope we'll have time to do that even though we're performing this time. We'd like to try some of the festival food too.

We would also watch a couple of great shows of course. We've seen both The Drums and Lucy Rose and they're both great so you guys should definitely check out their show!

    news3.jpg

    1. What are you looking forward to the most about playing in Wanderland?

I'm really looking forward to playing a show in Manila for the first time and Wanderland looks like such a fun festival!

    2. How did your solo career begin?

I began teaching myself guitar when I was in high school. It was a great distraction from doing my homework! From then on, it was a gradual process of learning to sing well and writing songs before I started performing shows.

    3. How did you react to the great reception for the music video of “You Can Stay”, including its recent feature on a TV campaign in Germany?

It's always great for me to see and hear people enjoying my music. The TV commercial has certainly opened many doors for my career as a musician!

    4. If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?

Well I can't wait to get to Wanderland, so I would have to say Manila!

    5. How did you find out you got airplay on Triple J? What was your reaction?

The first time 'You Can Stay' was played on Triple J, I received a message from some friends who had heard it on the radio and contacted me. I didn't believe them at first, but when I got home and saw that it had been played, I was really excited. Triple J is a great way for Australian artists to make a name for themselves in the music industry.

    6. In what way do your life experiences influences the content/subject of your songs?

I like to write songs that relate to people and connect with the listener. I usually incorporate my own life experiences throughout my songs which might have a deeper, personal meaning to me.

    7. If you were a superhero, what super powers would you have and why?

I would love to be invisible. Getting up to lots of mischief and not getting caught would make life very fun!

    8. What was the biggest challenge for you as an up and coming artist?

I remember back when I was just starting out as a musician, it was always tough to bring friends along to my gigs. Buying them a round of drinks would usually help convince them into coming though!

    9. If you could collaborate with any musician in the world, who would you collaborate with?

Very tough question! I have so many different musical inspirations…If The Rolling Stones wanted to collaborate with me, I wouldn't say no!

    10. Describe your music in three words.

    Fun, Youthful, Friendly

    11. What are your plans for the rest of 2014?

We will see! I am hoping to release more songs and play a lot of shows.

    12. If you were going to Wanderland as a concert goer and not as a performer, what would you be most excited about?

After seeing the official aftermovie, there is so much to get excited about for a concert goer at Wanderland. The fun vibes, the happy people and the great artists that i'm playing alongside would make me very excited!

    Wanderland-2014-The-Drums.jpg

    About The Drums

Emerging from Brooklyn via Florida in 2009, The Drums initially caught the ear of the indie world with their Summertime! EP. It was an escapist collection of beach pop fantasies; tracks suffused with a wistful, longing nostalgia that never pandered to cheap sentimentality. Their rise, particularly in the UK, was meteoric. Early buzz led to a prestigious spot on the BBC Sound of 2010 shortlist, followed in short succession by a slot on the Shockwaves NME Tour in 2009, and the publication’s Phillip Hall Radar Award in early 2010, well before the album’s release that summer.

Their terrific self-titled debut LP, released in June, was bifurcated into a first half dedicated to more upbeat pop songs, and a second half revealing a darker, more introspective side of the band. For the often difficult sophomore LP, the band sidestepped the pitfalls of a slump by recording it quickly, again self producing, often laying down tracks spontaneously in singer Jonny Pierce’s kitchen. Following the departure of guitarist Adam Kessler, drummer Connor Hanwick switched to guitar, and guitarist Jacob Graham picked up his more natural instrument of synthesizers. Portamento, the new album, released just 14 months after their debut, reveals a band tugging lightly at the boundaries of their sound while still retaining their recognizable sonic signatures—sweet rushes of melody, winsome lyrics, and brittle synthesizer sheens colliding with wiry Spector-esque guitar and bass lines.

Pierce explains “The first EP there was this air of innocence. We were obsessed with vintage Americana sort of things. There were personal moments on the first album and EP, but it was very idea driven and conceptual. We wanted it to be cinematic. A scene from a movie, if you will. Now that’s gone. The new album, it’s like every song is a scene from real life. I think from beginning to end it’s sort of autobiographical for me. I was able to be alone for a lot of this, and really write about myself. This new album touches on everything from my extreme religious roots to transgenderism to violence, and of course there’s plenty of heartbreak stuff, which I couldn’t get away from even if I tried.”

The record’s titled Portamento, which is a 17th century Italian term that denotes a vocal slide between two pitches. For Pierce, it takes on an additional, personal meaning. “Well it’s got some significance,” he says. “Jacob and I meeting as young boys with a shared love for Kraftwerk and Anything Box and Wendy Carlos, and these were all synth pioneers, and a common feature on old analogue systems was ‘Portamento.’ It dictates the travel time from one note to another, and we have always thought it was a beautiful word. It seems to come in to play with how we have transitioned in the last year, losing a guitarist, reforming the band, our personal lives, and the actual sound of the album travelling from one thing to the next.” In a sense Pierce is describing loss, nostalgia, redemption, vulnerability, and love, which could well be a checklist of all the things that make The Drums matter.

The Drums have just finished recording their third full-length album which will see a release sometime this year. It is full of "magic and surprise while maintaining a serious, more weighty tone throughout" , says Jonny Pierce. The upcoming LP marks the first time since their critically acclaimed Summertime! EP, in 2009- that Jacob and Jonny were left up to their own devices, without having to ask a soul for approval. The result is an exciting display of personal emotion and unashamed, majestic songwriting style.

    Wanderland-2014-The-Royal-Concept.jpg

    About The Royal Concept

    Members:
    • David Larson (vocals)
    • Filip Bekic (guitar)
    • Magnus Robert (bass)
    • Frans Povel (drums)
If you’re a indie rock band from Stockholm, Sweden, you really have to go the extra mile to stand out against the burgeoning EMD scene. The Royal Concept had barely existed for a year, and had played only a handful of shows before they’d amassed thunderous word of mouth from those lucky enough to catch them live.

The band formed in early 2011. David and Filip met a few years earlier while studying jazz music in Stockholm. They started playing and writing together and in 2010 they were both living in Stockholm working as session and touring musicians. David met drummer Frans Povel while on tour with Robyn and on a break from touring they hooked up in his studio and started recording their first demos. They all knew Magnus from the Stockholm music scene and soon approached him to join.

They sent D-D-Dance to radio and immediately got support from the important Swedish alternative, national radio channel P3 where it became a huge hit. Their following started to grow and they soon made an impression in the Swedish live music scene, with a peak that summer at Sweden’s biggest festival Peace & Love. “Our main goal,” declares frontman David Larson, “has been to make people dance more than the DJs do.”

The Royal Concept didn’t stay Stockholm’s secret for long; they instantly caught the attention of label executives. With international buzz circulating, Lava Records founder and CEO Jason Flom was transfixed by the live experience of the band when seeing them live for the first time. "You can't really put it into words," he affirms. "There's an intangible magic to this band. A&R usually isn't this easy!" He released their self-titled debut EP in June 2012, which showcases their array of diverse influences such as Simon & Garfunkel, Daft Punk, and The Strokes.

With the release “Gimme Twice” hit the radio and was the most added at track radio for three weeks.
The tastemaker approval and radio success led to touring opportunities. The band joined Alex Clare on a radio tour of the West Coast. Every date was sold out and the band’s live show continued to amass praise. They finished out 2012 touring with the whose-who of the indie rock darlings list; playing shows with The Wombats, Wolf Gang, Morning Parade, and Atlas Genius.

The long-awaiting debut full-length album from The Royal Concept will drop in early 2013, and the band couldn’t be more ready for the world to hear it.

    Wanderland-2014-Lucy-Rose.jpg

    About Lucy Rose

“One of the UK's most promising new voices” “Utterly beautiful” - Sunday Times (Culture)

    “A bewitching one-off talent” - Daily Star

With her star firmly in the ascendant, Warwickshire songstress Lucy Rose is making her own destiny and shaping her future like no other new artist. A mixture of true grit, sheer dedication and an unshakeable sense of self has all led Lucy to the kind of status that most new artists dream of. Her heart-stoppingly poignant songs and cracked porcelain voice saw her enter her career with YouTube hits, radio plays and crowds like nobody else out there. Such is her fan-base, she now sells out tours with ease, and at the tender age of 23, Lucy is being tipped by the great and the good as the one New British Artist who may stick around longer than any of the other fly-by-night contenders.

Lucy’s journey began, when she hopped on a train to London leaving behind the house in which she grew up in rural Warwickshire and struck out for the big city and the big time. Armed with an acoustic guitar and an unstoppable dedication, Lucy played every open-mic night imaginable, she met people on the way who are still with her now and with their support and her graft she learned the ropes. As her songs and sentiments spread their warmth through the iciest of hearts, Lucy became that most modern of phenomenon; she went ‘viral’. Her biggest videos have clocked up over 1,000,000 views and on average, her sessions and videos are receiving 250,000 views each.

It’s not just the online world and press who’ve been raving about Lucy either - she’s been clocking up the airplay with playlists across radio for her last four singles - Lines, Bikes, Middle Of The Bed and Shiver all made themselves very much at home on Radio 1.

Her critically acclaimed debut album Like I Used To was recorded in her family home with producer Charlie Hugall and truly embodied the very essence of her personality and honest approach to music and song writing. Following the album release Lucy embarked on a huge tour schedule which saw her performing to vast crowds all around the world and firmly placing her amongst the most exciting female artists out there. With album number 2 on its way in 2014, there is very little holding her back.

    Wanderland-2014-Architecture-In-Helsinki.jpg

    About Architecture in Helsinki

Architecture In Helsinki, one of Australia’s most infectious and beloved pop bands, will release their highly anticipated new album ‘NOW + 4EVA’ on Friday 28th March 2014. The Melbourne based, five piece, consisting of members Cameron Bird, Kellie Sutherland, Gus Franklin, Sam Perry and Jamie Mildren recently announced that the album will be released on the band’s own imprint, Casual Workout, via Inertia. Running the emotional gamut from Deep Blue thru Yellow magic to Pink Pop confection, 'NOW + 4EVA' is sure to warm the hearts and expand the minds of new and long term fans alike.

‘NOW + 4EVA’ follows the band’s highly-acclaimed 2011 release ‘Moment Bends’ which peaked at # 12 on the ARIA charts and came in at # 8 in triple j’s 2011 Album Poll. The highly polished pop sound the band developed on
‘Moment Bends’ reaches an even brighter level on ‘NOW + 4EVA’; as the album’s first two singles, “In The Future” and “Dream A Little Crazy” vibrantly attest.

“We wanted to build a collection of direct and honest songs that expanded our creative horizons and continued to challenge us as writers and producers,” says Architecture In Helsinki frontman, Cameron Bird. He adds, “I'm a populist, I live for the power of melody and ideas in pop music and marvel at their ability to connect people regardless of time and place. It's a privilege to work in a medium where you can truly have a positive effect on
    someone's life”.

The album was co-produced by the band and long term collaborator Francois Tetaz (Gotye, Kimbra) and mixed in Los Angeles and Montreal by Tetaz and Damian Taylor (Bjork ,The Killers and Arcade Fire). “We wrote and recorded the album over a 15 month period in a Loft space we leased in Melbourne's CBD. It used to be part of a Magic Shop in the 1930s so we're hoping some of the auras of illusion rubbed off on the songs!”

On working with Tetaz, Bird expounds “It was like taking the songs to boot camp on Venice Beach. We ate Kale Salad and worked 15 hour days until the songs sounded and looked like equal parts boardwalk vagrant and body
builder”. While Tetaz had this to say "I love that AIH continually evolves. Listing to this record, it's hard to recognise their first album is the same band. Every album is a re invention and a new journey. I have no idea where it is going to lead or what to expect. If there is one thing their albums have in common it is that - No idea what you are going to hear next!"

The album's production reference points may span everything from Philly Soul and Jamaican Sleaze to Swedish Pomp, 'NOW + 4EVA' remains uniquely and unmistakably Architecture in Helsinki.

    PRESS FOR ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI:
    • ROLLING STONE “Boasting meticulous hooks and obsessive production...Moment Bends teems with openness and positivity. As with all great pop music, Moment Bends, conveys the feeling that anything is possible”
    • THE CREATORS PROJECT “ “Dream a Little Crazy” is a harmonious piece of pop with jagged rubble rousing intonation”
    • THE MUSIC “There's no need to wax lyrical about this band – they know what they're doing. The entire spectacle is just one big celebration”
    • BEAT MAGAZINE “I'll call it - this is the Australian pop album of the year”
    • MESS AND NOISE “‘Moment Bends’ is neither a tribute nor a parody: it's bold, unashamedly sincere, celebratory and thoughtful, nuanced and heartfelt”
    • THE VINE “the songs have an air of clarity and freedom. There’s no holding back for fear of embarrassment or of being unfashionable; there’s only the kind of pop-born euphoria that translates worldwide”
    • SYN “To say that they delivered is an understatement all in itself”

    Wanderland-2014-Woody-Pitney.jpg

    About Woody Pitney

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, 23 year old singer/songwriter Woody Pitney brings his live show to Manilla for the first time. Along with his 6-piece band, his unique blend of Pop, Folk and Country music will bring a smile to your face as you're grooving along!

At the rather tender age of 23 Woody Pitney is known best to us from the travel website weg.de, where we book our holidays in anticipation of a hopefully perfect summer. Not that Pitney needs the services of cette site given that he hails from sunny Melbourne, the world renown surf-hotspot in Victoria/Australia which he also crowned home to the best coffee on the globe.

"We expect to hear plenty from this young and gifted performer, he is on the path to success" you can read on the webzine Indie Shuffle, and his current single 'You Can Stay' is a strong start to fleetingly stroll into the summertimes.

Pitney's way until here can easily be called a smooth march. In his days serving as a butler at Tiffany's & Co or as a ballboy at the Australian Open the sport-crazed sunnyboy constantly hummed his melodies in his head. A battle of the bands in highschool confirmed his talent, securing him the first place.

After trying his hand at the violin he proceeded to skip homework by playing the guitar, and soon began crafting his songs. His homerecorded gem 'You Can Stay' went through two weeks of development. Mumford & Sons or Of Monsters & Men come to mind (adamnoteve.net), the song's catchiness mainly being carried by Pitney's soothing voice.

It is the peers named above who Pitney should be named in one breath with in the future, easily. We say: Mr Pitney, you can stay.

    Wanderland 2014 Press Conference
Up Close with The Drums, Last Dinosaurs, and Woody Pitney

MANILA -- The acts have finally arrived and the stage is set. The much awaited second installment of the Wanderland Music and Arts Festival will be held on May 17, once again at the Globe Circuit Events Grounds in Makati.

PinoyExchange was at the Press Conference of Wanderland Music and Arts Festival 2014 earlier this afternoon at the Diamond Hotel in Manila to get to know more of the artists The Drums, Last Dinosaurs, and Woody Pitney. These artists flew all the way from New York and Australia, and are looking forward to a good and fun crowd tomorrow at the music fest.

    Wanderland-2014-Press-Conference-1.jpg

    The Drums

The Drums are the headliners of this year's festival and come from Brooklyn, New York. Known for its "80s surfy music," they were hailed as the band to look out for in various magazines in 2010. Their songs range from upbeat pop songs to a darker, more introspective side of the band. The hits "Let's Go Surfing," "Money," and "Down the Water" are some of their well-known songs.

The artists are truly overwhelmed by the support they're getting as their influence has truly spread all over the world, beyond America and Europe. Filipino fans can truly expect a solid performance from them, with all the favorites expected to be played tomorrow, and some surprises. Another thing to look forward to is that they have just finished recording their third full-length album, which will see a release sometime this year. It is full of "magic and surprise while maintaining a serious, more weighty tone throughout", says Jonny Pierce.

    Listen to their music:

    The Last Dinosaurs

The Last Dinosaurs comes back to Manila to play once again for Wanderland. They are an Australian act known for fast-paced power pop-rock, as well as having a majority of its members be of Japanese descent. Comprised of brothers Sean and Lachlan Caskey, Dan Koyama and Michael Sloane, the group has been playing together since late 2007. "Zoom" is from their critically praised studio album, "In A Million Years," released in 2012.

"I hope there will be lots of crazy people like last time we played in Manila. I wanna see them again," Sean shared. When asked how Philippines was like, "First impressions are indescribable. We stayed in the seediest part of town, in the red light area, which was actually so good haha. The club we played at was so cool and had THE BEST food. I can’t wait to eat another pulled pork hot dog." Fans can expect cooler songs from them. "Most of the new stuff has more soul I think. As we have grown older I think we have gotten a better idea of what we think is cool."

Along with his 6-piece band, his unique blend of Pop, Folk and Country music will bring a smile to your face as you're grooving along.
