MANILA – The first and only club volleyball league in the country just got bigger.
Philippine Superliga (PSL) held its first-ever players draft Wednesday afternoon at the NBA Café in SM Aura, in Taguig City. The Petron Blaze Spikers selected Dindin Santiago of National University as the top overall pick, while Air Asia – the newest team in the league – opted for Aby Maraño of De La Salle University as the second pick.
Santiago is a 6-2 quick hitter who led the Lady Bulldogs to their first back-to-back Final Four appearances in the UAAP. Maraño, a two-time UAAP MVP, will be reunited with her former collegiate teammates, and with Coach Ramil de Jesus.
RC Cola selected third and went with Iari Yongco, Cagayan Valley made Janine Marciano the fourth overall pick, and Jamenea Ferrer was taken fifth by PLDT MyDSL.

Year in Review: 10 Filipino athletes who stood out in 2014

Din-Din Santiago: Standing Tall in Volleyball
In a year when volleyball continued its meteoric rise in popularity, six-foot-two Din-Din Santiago literally and figuratively stood head and shoulders above all other semi-pro volleyball players. The Cavite native led the NU Lady Bulldogs to the Final Four in Season 76, then went on to stamp her class in the two semi-pro volleyball leagues. In 2014 she added a Most Valuable Player award for the Shakey’s V-League 1st conference and Best Quicker in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix to her trophy case. She also helped lead Petron to the PSL GP title, NU to a Shakey’s V-League 1st conference finals appearance, and Philippine Army to an SVL 3rd conference finals appearance. (Photo by Joaqui Flores)
