    Movie Review:

The Silence of the Lambs helmed by Jonathan Demme is still considered one of the greatest horror movie of all time, combined by the eerie athmosphere, topnotch cinematography, scary feels and towering performances from veterans Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster playing icons Hannibal Lecter and heroine Clarice Starling respectively, and this what make this pyschological-suspense-thriller-horror movie so great and will appear in every one's list.

Young FBI agent Clarice Starling is assigned to help find a missing woman to save her from a psychopathic serial killer who skins his victims. Clarice attempts to gain a better insight into the twisted mind of the killer by talking to another psychopath Hannibal Lecter, who used to be a respected psychiatrist. FBI agent Jack Crawford believes that Lecter, who is also a very powerful and clever mind manipulator, has the answers to their questions and can help locate the killer. However, Clarice must first gain Lecter's confidence before the inmate will give away any information.

The Silence of the Lambs' effective plot, pacing and steady direction still haunts me until today, this film has very powerful characters not only from Hannibal Lecter and Clarice Starling but also Buffalo Bill.

Winner of 5 Major Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Anthony Hopkins, Best Actress for Jodie Foster, Best Director for Jonathan Demme and Best Adapted Screenplay

The Silence of the Lambs is considered "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant by the U.S. Library of Congress and was selected to be preserved in the National Film Registry in 2011.

    Movie Year: 1994
    Movie Genre: Comedy
    Movie Rating: 7/10

    Richierichposter.jpg

Richie Rich stars Macaulay Culkin as Richard "Richie" Rich Jr, the world's wealthiest kid! As per the usual story, being the richest kid in the world does not guarantee a world of happiness despite having all the money and toys in the world. Richie was most of the time accompanied by his loyal butler. Then, he met a group of "non-rich" kids and tried to befriend them. At first, they were hesitant to approach him because of his stature but eventually they give in and even helped Richie when he was in danger from his dad's colleague whose evil plan is to claim the Rich's fortune. I was still in grade school when I first watched this film and like any other kids, I totally enjoyed it. I think I was able to watch it then for like the nth time and on VHS! Culkin for one was very charismatic here, no wonder he's one of the most sought-after kid actor back then. The stunts were hilarious as well and how can you not enjoy the plot (as a kid) with all those cool toys / gadgets? Now as a grown-up, I still find it ridiculously funny, although I've seen better films, (err... story wise..stunt wise and all) Richie Rich will always have a special place in my heart because it represent something from my childhood.

The story revolves around the child psychologist Dr. Malcolm Crowe when something happened one night when he and his wife arrived home and found out that someone intruded their house. He then knew that the intruder was one of his patients ten years ago named Vincent. Vincent was furious at Malcolm. He had a gun and shot the doctor at his abdomen then shot himself in the head afterwards. The doctor blamed himself for what happened, then took another chance the next fall when he found a boy named Cole Sear who had the same psychiatric symptoms as Vincent. Malcolm was determined to make things right.

This genre is the genre I like the most, horror and/or supernatural. I really love watching extraordinary and supernatural shows as I've always been interested in these things. The movie plot, however, focused more on how Dr. Malcolm could help Cole and how his the rapport between the two characters improved throughout the whole movie. Cole has this ability what most people commonly refer to as the Sixth Sense. He can see things, or rather beings, other people don't normally see. Just like what he said when he revealed his secret to Malcolm, "I see dead people." I am ever curious of the idea and I've always wanted to experience to see ghosts. Do I really want to see them?? Err, I'm not so sure, hahaha, because I don't know what I would do if I happen to encounter one, LOL. Just like what I said earlier though, there were just a few scenes where Cole saw ghosts as the movie concentrated more on the drama rather than the freaky, scary scenes. It was still pretty nice though, regardless of it not being too frightening. My favorite part would probably when Cole told his mom his secret and had a confirmation with her mom still being supportive of her son. And the twist in the ending, although I knew it before I even watched this film, I forgot it and so I wasn't expecting it until I saw it xP.

We’re The Millers tells the story of David Clark (Jason Sudeikis) as he assembles a fake family in an RV to smuggle a smidge and a half of weed from Mexico to Denver. The small-time pot dealer buys the help of his neighbors - a stripper (Jennifer Aniston) and a home-alone, slightly dumb teen (Will Poulter) - and a street punk (Emma Roberts) who loiters nearby. Off they go on an American adventure ready to make some cash. Inevitably, though, things start to deviate from the original plan.

The movie does have charming and affable characters. David and Rose have great comedic chemistry. It has great supporting characters, as well, in Ron Swanson and Sheila Shay as the perfectly amusing other RV couple. Will Poulter is also a revelation! He almost stole the entire show – from owning TLC’s Waterfalls to getting his testicles bitten by a tarantula to engaging in a three-way snog fest with Emma Roberts and Jennifer Aniston. Yep, back and forth with Emma Roberts and Jennifer Aniston.

While the story’s a bit thin, We’re The Millers still delivers that you’ll laugh right through to the end.

In a future British tyranny, a shadowy freedom fighter plots to overthrow it with the help of a young woman.-IMDB
    Review
The movie is based on a graphic novel by Alan Moore the same guy who wrote Watchmen and produce by the Wachowski’s from Matrix trilogy. I watched this a long time ago but couldn’t remember much of the plot. And I’ve been meaning to watch it again for some time.
It’s basically a story about revolting against a tyrant government, what makes it great is how it is delivered. Surely at the time of release, the movie or setting had a fresher vibe to it as opposed to now where you get a number of media in a dystopian setting.
The leads performed exceptionally, especially Hugo Weaving as V, channeling the characters emotions despite the mask and delivers his lines a step above Agent Smith while Natalie gets to display a whole range of emotion throughout the film. V’s theatrical demeanor, makes up most of the fun in the movie. The suspense and mystery, uncovering V’s backstory and how it intertwines with Evey’s will surely keep the audience’s attention. The music is great if you’re into oldies, they perfectly complement the mood of the film. The action scenes are exciting without being over the top if not brutal for a CBM, but then again this isn’t your ordinary CBM, more in the lines of Sin City, which I good if you’re into that.
Took a half point each for some slow points in the film and the visuals seem too studio type-ish for me. It’s probably the look and mood they’re going for but not really my type.
Overall, regardless I slept the both times I watched it, everyone should watch this movie especially if you’re into political, dark, mysteries with equal amounts of romanticism you’ll surely enjoy it.
I’ll definitely be reading the GN after this since the movie got me interested.

Well... There were definitely a lot of SPG scenes in this movie, LOL. I also thought that the "drugs" and I mean bad drugs were involved. Good thing that the drugs were medicinal drugs. The first half of the plot was more on Jamie Randall (Jake Gyllenhaal) having sex with many to attain his goal of making a doctor to prescribe his company's medicine over another brand urged by his manager that this could promote him and bring them to the Chicago office. He later then found out one night when he was having sex with Maggie Murdock (Anne Hathaway) and he had a difficulty getting a hard-on. Maggie then told Jamie about the sex drug that his company was developing, Viagra. After hearing this, Jamie asked his manager about it and if he could sell it. He later was able to sell Viagra which led him to instant success.

The later half of the movie's plot was more on Maggie's Parkinson's disease and her relationship with Jamie.
When Jamie went to Chicago for a medical conference, he took Maggie along with him. Maggie learned of a nearby conference about Parkinson's disease. Afterwards, she thanked Jamie for taking her along and that she has never been that happier after meeting other people dealing with the same disease. She then told Jamie that she loves him. After that, Jamie tried to find ways for Maggie's disease to be cured and have gone to different specialists. He became angry when they arrived at an appointment only to find out it was rescheduled after flying miles away just to see the doctor. Maggie got upset at Jamie thinking that he can only love her when there are hopes that her Parkinson's disease can, one day, be cured and so she decided to break up with him.

When Jamie was packing to move to Chicago, he watched the videotape recorder when he and Maggie were talking about life. He later then realized that he wants to be with her. He went to see Maggie but her boss told him that she has left for Canada to acquire drugs. He pursued the bus she was was riding and tried to make her talk with him. After successfully stopping the bus. Jamie told Maggie that she has changed him, made him a better person and the he loves and needs her. They got back together. Jamie did not to take the job in Chicago and decided to take up medical school and stay with Maggie instead.

For me though, I think the movie lacks a good plot. There were very few heart-moving scenes but I really like Jamie's monologue in the ending. "Sometimes, the thing you most want doesn't happen. And sometimes, the thing you never expect to happen does... You meet thousands of people and none of them really touch you. And then you meet one person and your life is changed forever."

Movie Title: A Walk In The Clouds
    Movie Year: 1995
    Movie Genre: Drama
    Movie Rating: 9/10

    A_Walk_in_the_Clouds.jpg

“Just because I talk with an accent doesn't mean I think with an accent.” – Alberto Aragon

From director Alfonso Arau, A Walk In The Clouds stars Keanu Reeves as Paul Sutton, who after the war returns to San Francisco to reunite with his wife Betty (Debra Messing) expecting a warm reception from her. It turns out that most of the letters that he sent her were unopened which causes a little misunderstanding but he still decided to forgive her thus continuing his plan to engage in a new career. Betty however, convinced him to go back to his former career of selling chocolates so he set forth to sell chocolates in Sacramento. On his way to Sacramento, he met Victoria Aragon who’s on her way home from college after getting herself pregnant by her professor. Coming from a very traditional family, Victoria’s in a very serious trouble until Paul offered to help her by posing as her husband to meet his family, especially her very strict father. Alberto Aragon wasn’t happy about this but he eventually conceded realizing that Paul “really” love his daughter. Knowing that it was all a lie, both Paul and Victoria had to end it even after realizing that they’ve come to truly love each other.
I am supposed to write a review about this film in a different category but I decided that Senor Alberto Aragon’s quotation “Just because I talk with an accent doesn't mean I think with an accent” was quite a scene stealer and I just loved it because I feel that at some point it applies to me having worked in the BPO industry where I was criticized at some point about my accent. Anyway, this film is probably Keanu Reeves’ second best movie (in my opinion) after The Matrix. He provided here a subtle approach to his role as a vulnerable and well-grounded man of honor complimenting the performance of his leading lady, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón. I also appreciate the beautiful vineyard scenery that feels like I’m being transported in a beautiful dream – what a beautiful cinematography. The scoring was also superb coming from Maurice Jarre who also composed the scores of Lawrence Of Arabia, Messenger Of God and Ghost. The story of the film was that of a sweet romantic one – a couple who found themselves in a beautiful place where they could just be in love forever - much like what the audience (moi) feels like - like walking in the clouds.

    Movie Review:

The Exorcist is still the most iconic horror film ever made, considered as one of the contributor in the popular culture of Possesion themed films and still give creeps until today, who could forget the infamous spider walk scene, the enormous amount of pea soup vomitted by Regan, no one, that's why The Exorcist is the most originals and widely inspired films such as the Last Exorcism, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Rite and even The Devil Inside, the movie also span two sequel and several prequels.

When a teenage girl is possessed by a mysterious entity, her mother seeks the help of two priests to save her daughter.

Linda Blair, Ellen Burstyn and Max Von Shydow has the perfect chemistry between this complete trio, a possesed child, a mother and a priest, there performances was noticable and arguably decent but nothing brilliant.

William Friedkin has been one of the greatest living director, his resume consists such as The French Connection which won his first Academy for being the Best Director and his latest effort Killer Joe.

Nominated in the Academy Awards in 10 Categories including Best Picture, the first horror film to be nominated, but ends up winning Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Sound Mixing.

The Exorcist by Blatty and directed by Friedkin will be remembered forever, generations into generations.

I want to do my review in a different way this time.

    1. I have heard things about Wes Anderson's films, but I hate myself for watching my first Wes Anderson film just now.
    2. I love the colors, every scene is a delight because of it.
    3. The actors were very very good, especially Ralph Fiennes. And also Tony Revolori, the new actor.
    4. The screenplay was very good too, I hope it gets nominated in the Oscars.
    5. One of the best films of 2014 for me, so far.
    6. This movie made me plan to watch all the other Wes Anderson films, and I will all include them in the Movie Challenge.

It’s been years since I last watched this movie. I thought Con Air didn’t have a happy ending. I swear Nicolas Cage died in the version I saw before. Oh, well... maybe that’s just because I don’t like him as an actor. I still cringe at some of his lines in his movies. And this film is no exception. At least there's John Malkovich who always shines as an all-out villain; that’s already a given. The movie does have an interesting plot, but there’s just too much mayhem and explosion towards the end.

Wait, that's not the trailer...

This film was quite thrilling, in my honest opinion, but the plot wasn't that effective to me. I did not like the concept where there were these mad scientists manipulating the events behind the scenes. I guess they weren't even scientists but a weird cult. I bet it would have been a lot better if the manipulators did not exist at all. It would have added to the mystery if the things that were happening to them were some kind of supernatural act and not man-made, and thus, I think if it were the case, the film could have had sequels as the people could have chosen their fate and the various monsters that would be involved. The ending also totally destroyed the possibility of having sequels, I believe. Yet, maybe I am wrong because there exist other facilities in other countries as well, but what the heck, it's doomsday the moment the ending was shown. The little humor inserted weren't even funny at all and they just didn't work on me.

    Movie Title: Metro Manila
    Year: 2013
    Genre: Action, Drama
    Rating: 9/10

    405px-Metro_Manila_Poster.jpg

Directed by Sean Ellis, Metro Manila tells of a tale we all are familiar with: wanting a better life for his family, Oscar Ramirez brings his family to the capital city. However, instead of finding a bed of roses, he is sucked into the city's gritty underbelly. He finds work as an armoured truck personnel, under the tutelage of Ong. But Ong it turns out has other plans for him.

While the production is purely British, the dialogue is purely in Tagalog. Director Ellis himself wrote the screenplay for the movie, which explains why some of the dialogue felt off, as if it had been directly translated from English. Nonetheless, he hews a tragic yet hopeful tale that shows that while we are engulfed in the gritty city life, there is always that glimmer of hope.

What struck me on this film is how it is able to weave a tale from a story which hit the headlines a few years back- the skyjacking of a Philippine Airlines flight from Davao. The story perhaps served as Ellis' inspiration for the film and from it, he was able to weave a masterful story of urban blight.

Day 18/100: 30-Day Challenge: Day 06 - Your favorite comedy movie: The Hangover
    Movie Title: The Hangover
    Year: 2009
    Genre: Comedy
    Rating: 9 out of 10

    the_hangover_movie-normal.jpg

Review: The Hangover is a story between friends and of friendship. The story takes place on a stag party gone wrong because of the strong influence of alcohol to their system. It saw these friends tread back through the events that happened the night before to undo everything that they have done. Scene after scene, everything was just a crazy mess that will send stomach’s aching. Viewers will be taken to a ride with these friends as they stick together and deliver the groom to his wedding.

Set in the vivacious Las Vegas, The Hangover is a movie that doesn’t just make you laugh but make you appreciate the scambugs of a friends that you have while watching it.

    Movie Review:

Scream follows the character of Sidney Prescott (Campbell), a high school student in the fictional town of Woodsboro, who becomes the target of a mysterious killer known as Ghostface.

Scream is the movie that really pushes the slasher films in its status right now, inspiring several films, directes by Wes Craven, the director of the Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream if not is one of the beat slasher film franchise in history, next to Halloween and A Nightmare on Elm Streer but better than Friday the 13th, Neve Campbell is the perfect fit for Sidney Prescott, and i am a big fan of this franchise, hoping for Scream 5.

What an awful film. What were Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson even doing here? Combine a horrible plot with terrible acting and you’d get a ridiculous movie such as this one. Please remind me not to watch anything with Josh Peck in it. That last scene. Ugh. :yuck:

    P.S. I didn’t know this was a remake.

Disney is really stepping up this time. After poking fun at its cliches and itself via Enchanted, it hits its age old premise with Frozen: You can't marry a guy you just met, which is basically the pitfall of almost every Disney Princess. Frozen is a reimagined version of The Snow Queen, yet as with everything Disneyfied, it takes a life of its own and deviates from the original evolving into a kid-friendly sanitized version. This one however works as it relegates the romantic love story on the sidelines and focuses on familial relationships, which is also another interesting turn for Disney since in previous films, it's family that is the side story.

Frozen also shakes up character portrayals of previous Disney stereotypes such as the dashing prince evolving into a villain and the perceived villainess becoming one of the lead characters. With Froze, Disney throws the manual of creating fairy tales to the fire and breaks nearly all stereotypes we see in Disney animated films. And it really works!
