Review: This movie is such a visual spectacle that you’ll eyes will melt just seeing every scenes. Everything was placed in a way that will please your eyes despite what can be deemed a simplistic story on the surface. Put a tiger, several other animals and a lead in a lifeboat and you have an Oscar nomination-worthy movie. It’s because the movie is so much more than the beautiful direction of Ang Lee.

The movie tried to capture the soul of the movie with an effective performance of its lead actor. He makes us see what’s happening in his mind that can be quite sobering to a young mind but very unrealistic to a trained one. There is an alternate story, a realistic one or at least one that can make adults believe his words.

I have read the book and this movie is one of the few example where the movie is as equally wonderful as the book. Everyone will be able to appreciate the beauty of the story even through the film.

    Review:

Disney Animation Studios had done it yet again!
So why was it my "best movie" for 2013? Here are some reasons why:

    1. Superb graphics! Well, this is an animated feature so I'm kind of redundant here :glee:
    2. Outstanding story! Even though it's loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen still Disney made it their own and came up with an original one.
    3. The casting (voice talents) is done flawlessly! Idina Menzel as Elsa, Kristen Bell as Anna, Jonathan Groff as Kristoff, Josh Gad as Olaf and Santino Fontana as Hans, these actors did an impressive job on giving life to each character, and boy, the singing parts are brilliant!
    4. The film gave you not one but two Disney princesses. So for that reason alone, this film is remarkable.
    5. Lastly, the feature's original song killed it! I guess this by far is the best Disney song ever. C'mon y'all agree with me, right? The song spawned thousands of covers and versions in different languages! Just type in Let it go on Youtube and you'll get tons of renditions from almost everyone though, some are not that good :rotfl:

All in all this is indeed a notable movie with it's rightful place as the all time highest grossing Animated Film!

Day 08 - A movie of your favorite actor [Leonardo DiCaprio]
    Movie Title: Revolutionary Road
    Year: 2008
    Genre: Drama
    Rating: 9 out of 10

    revolutionary_road.jpg

Revolutionary Road was set in the late 1940's. A rather haunting tale of a seemingly perfect couple, Frank (Leonardo DiCaprio) and April (Kate Winslet) whose aspirations in life seemed to be out of their reach no matter what they do. This for me was one of the best films of 2008 and probably, one of the most thought provoking from the last decade. Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio were nothing short of spectacular, both provided sublimed performance that will forever be immortalized as they grow more and more [I mean, older - like Meryl Streep-old or Al Pacino-old] in the industry. It goes to show how great an actress Winslet is complimenting DiCaprio's equally stunning rendition of a man who feels hopeless yet is moving on with life being left with no choice. The overall feel of the story also provided that grave effect of interacting with the characters. I love it when a movie does that to me. It's like being transported from a time machine and watching them move, talk, yell etc... like you're living their life. I think at the end, the beauty of the film can be weigh in on how much it affected - and in a good way of course.

    mykel14 Oh, ****.
I heard the movie's satirical in nature, meant to mock and make fun of other horror movies. Well, it definitely isn't scary; I'll give them that. But it isn't witty and funny at all, either. How this film got so many good reviews is beyond me. To each his own, I guess. And since this is my review, I say The Cabin in the Woods is an absolute pile of crap.

Movie Rating: 7.5 out of 10
    Movie Poster/Image:

    Movie Review:

Rise of the Guardians is not an Avengers ensemble nor Avenger Initiative, it has its own way presenting it with dazzling animation, gorgeous characters and a perfect plot albeit predictable, suited with great characterization, and the anination had a big impact, its plain beautiful.

Set about 200 years after the book series, the film tells a story about the Guardians (North or Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, Bunnymund or the Easter Bunny, and the Sandman), who enlist Jack Frost to stop Pitch from engulfing the world in darkness. It features the voices of Chris Pine (Jack Frost), Alec Baldwin (Santa Claus), Hugh Jackman (The Easter Bunny), Isla Fisher (The Tooth Fairy) and Jude Law (Pitch).

Dreamworks Animation had been and always be a threat to Pixar producing films like How to Train Your Dragon, Shrek Franchise, Megamind and 2011's Kung fu Panda 2 and Puss in Boots and this year Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted which is my favorite animated this year and 2013 there are more stored for fans.

Rise of the Guardians is a great animated feature, but not as good as Madagacar, Frankenweenie, Paranorman or even Wreck-It Ralph but i assure it is better than The Lorax and The Pirates! Band of misfits, The Script is rich with human theses, religion's imagery and re- invention of nearly all your childhood fantasy figures, Rise of the Guardians is an effervescent dose of fantasia.

Rise of the Guardians is not the film that i expected to turn out to, it was very good and had a nice climax and add that 3D conversion and your into a great journey, this is somehow could wind up having a oscar nomination or could win but that's impossible, a very impressive year for animated films.

The movie, just like the first installment, was pretty much exciting and fun to watch. The little humor inserted at random serious motifs added more to the fun. I loved it when Thor asked Loki, my favorite Avenger :rotfl:, for help. His annoying commentaries to Thor and the sudden cameo of Captain America during their escape were very funny. Although I kind of suspect it when he "betrayed" Thor all of a sudden when they came to meet Malekith, I knew that it was still part of the plan. And him, saving Thor and sacrificing himself was very heroic for a villain, even though I know that he has a motive in doing that. Actually, I watch this Marvel series for Loki more than for the main protagonist, Thor, himself. :rotfl: I am very much excited for the final installment after seeing Loki sitting on the throne :naughty: Hail Loki! My most favorite Avenger, ever!! :rotfl:

The world's greatest superheroes come together to stop an alien invasion of Earth. This is how the Justice League started.

Not my favorite from the DC Animated Universe, but I'll take it. It has great action scenes and the art is impressive. I dig the new look, though I still need to get used to changes with how the characters are portrayed in New 52. And yes, with the new voices, too. ;)

    Genre: Action/ Adventure
    Rating: 8 out of 10

    runner-runner-poster08.jpg

Review: Literally the last movie I watched since I'm writing this review right after I finished the movie.

I loved the movie so that's why I'm dumbfounded when I found out, while looking for an apt poster image, that it got an 8% Rotten Tomatoes rating.

The movie is about a young man who's terribly gifted in finance (and gambling) who went all the way to Costa Rica to get his money back from the owner of the online gambling website where he lost his money to. He found out that coders embezzled money out of him due to the statistics that he's got. The owner of the casino decided to take him in so as not to waste his talents but turns out that he is just being used as a fall-guy in the end. Timberlake's character out of desperation, manages to outsmart Ivan (Ben Affleck) to get him arrested by the FBI in American territory, Puerto Rico.

The movie can be easily outshone by other casino heist movies but the cunning involved here is good enough. The story is good but not extraordinary as it presented a typical smart kid gets into the business of scamming then buys his way out by helping the cops get their man to jail. Not the best movie but not the worst as what Rotten Tomatoes reviewers think it is.

Title: Captain America : Winter Soldier
    Genre: Thriller/Adventure
    Rating: 9/10

    001_cap_poster1.jpg

Teeming with gritting thriller and riveting adventure,'Captain America: Winter Soldier' climbs to the bar previously set by Avengers and Iron Man 3, lifting itself at par with the successful members of Marvel's cinematic universe. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo succeed expanding the characters and bringing them to new groundbreaking layers that we've never seen in the previous installment.

Struggling to fit into the modern world, Steve Rogers finds himself at the center of a world at the brink of collapse--a world he seriously needs to acclimate himself to in order for him to meet its overwhelming clamor of solid and unshakeable leadership. That struggle itself alienated Rogers and soon finds himself facing against the nation he once saved from destruction. When Nick Fury gets attacked and declared dead, eyes of suspicions shift at Rogers, and when he can't provide solid explanations about how not seemingly coincidental Fury's presence in his appartment at the time of the attack was, he becomes the subject of a fatal pursuit. Escaping from the government's forces led by a mysterious formidable enemy, Winter Soldier, Rogers allies with Black Widow and Sam Wilson (Falcon). Together, they confront each and every hostility sent by HYDRA--the secret criminal organization that disguises itself as the new S.H.I.E.L.D..

Notable in this installment, every characters are weaved in accord to the story's central elements: trust and loyalty. Black Widow's presence, as well as of Sam Wilson's and Nick Fury's, prove to be pivotal to Rogers, their unwavering support solidifying his cause to fight. Most importantly, these friends recognize Roger's being human. Every character in this movie is magnificently and smartly utililized, and indeed, giving this conspiracy thriller its depth. That conspiracy element itself propels Captain America to higher grounds and at the same time serves as a constant reminder that he's not on top of everything, that he needs pain in order to gain strength, and by going through a process that involves having and losing someone he loves,he gains that.

Character establishment is fast at first but is proven crucial in the end when all the issues are properly laid out, making the viewers sympatize with the right characters involved.

The whole movie cruises across themes of loyalty and trust, of conspiracy and leadership, weaved in an emotionally-filled premise. By balancing humor and drama, it sets itself apart from the usual dark existential perplexity that most superhero films have. Rogers rises as an impregnable icon of leadership, cognizant of the time's need of him at his best. At the same time, he levels himself along with the people he ought to serve, making his heroism remarkably singular.

Overall, the movie jumps leaps and bounds from the first film, its thriller and action far more gripping and gritting, and its elements utilized in best way possible. It's probably Marvel's best sequel to date. :)

Day 09 - A movie of your favorite actress [Meryl Streep]
    Movie Title: Julie and Julia
    Year: 2009
    Genre: Comedy
    Rating: 9 out of 10

    Julie_and_julia.jpg

Based on true events, the film's a narrative of two very interesting and fascinating women whose passion for cooking taught them more in life than tasting and enjoying the food. Meryl Streep plays chef Julia Child who "taught America how to cook" and Amy Adams, as Julia Powell, a young writer in New York who lives with his husband. Powell with the encouragement of his husband took on the challenge to cook every recipe that Child has published and recounts her progress through a blog. This attracts the attention of many including the media and Julia Child herself.

The film also recounts JUlia Child's experience in France with his husband who works for the US government - as she was introduced to the art of cooking thus producing Mastering the Art of French Cooking and introducing French Cuisine in America.

As usual, La Streep was at her best - yet again. Like how does she do it? Meryl's a different kind of artist - I mean she's UP UP there. Like who could even rival her greatness? She's very enigmatic on the screen and playing Julia Child, it's like we're really watching the real Julia Child. I even thought that she should've won the Oscars for her performance. Amy Adams on the other hand was equally stunning, this girl simply complimented Streep's screen prowess. She'd some moments in the film but obviously, it was THE Meryl Streep who carry the film altogether.

"May the odds be ever in your favor."

When I first watched this a couple of years ago, I honestly thought this was going to be just another movie I'll watch then forget afterwards. I was wrong. I never thought I'd be hooked up by this movie. I loved the concept of the "Hunger Games" and kudos to Suzanne Collins for creating the book and the producers for adapting this film. I was bored at the beginning of the movie but it slowly got my attention up again when the reaping began and it continued into the parade of tributes, the training, and finally, the arena. I really enjoyed the action inside the arena. I love Katniss Everdeen. Her wits, her attitude, her appearance. I love her everything! Damn, Jennifer Lawrence is so gorgeous! Thanks to this film, I got to know her! :D Aside from all the bloodsheds and killings, I liked the romance between Katniss and Peeta and their landian as well :rotfl: I'm proud to say that I am Team PeeNiss all the way, hahaha. I also enjoyed the drama especialy when one of the likable characters, Rue, died. It's as though that I have also made a connection with Rue just as Katniss did. I also liked the villains, Cato & Clove, from District 2. They did great and portrayed the characters very well. Overall, this is definitely one of my favorite movies of all time.

    Movie Review:

Finding Nemo 3D is arguably my favorite Pixar Film of all time not that i worship Pixar so much, Because of its enjoyable character, fitted voices, colorful plot and an all around great underwater adventure, it's truly a timeless delight and still can entertain not only children but kids at heart too.

In this stunning underwater adventure, with memorable characters, humor and heartfelt emotion, Finding Nemo follows the comedic and momentous journey of an overly protective clownfish named Marlin (voice by Albert Brooks) and his son Nemo (voice by Alexander Gould) -- who become separated in the Great Barrier Reef when Nemo is unexpectedly taken far from his ocean home and dumped into a fish tank in a dentist's office. Buoyed by the companionship of Dory (voice by Ellen DeGeneres), a friendly-but-forgetful Pacific regal blue tang, Marlin embarks on a dangerous trek and finds himself the unlikely hero of an epic effort to rescue his son -- who hatches a few daring plans of his own to return safely home.

Pixar havent actually made a horrible entry on their beloved billion making franchise yet, but then on 2011 there the movie you called 'Cars 2' where cars are flying, having machine guns and a race around the world, sounds very dreadful!, and it was the sequel to 2006's a bit decent 'Cars'

The 3D we're breathtaking , it has been used properly, It's pretty rare that the 3D conversion doesnt suffers the movie but benefits from it, it was truly appropraite putting it, I don't know if some scenes are added in the film, because i havent seen it like 3 years from now, Finding Nemo is sweet, kind and a joy that everyone ought to see

Finding Nemo 3D is truly what you called a masterpiece, a rich and superb animated feautre film that everyone must watched and it's hard to ignore and it's hard to deny that this film is one of Pixar's Best and it is Pixar at it's Finest.

    Plot (from AsianWiki)
[CROUCHING-TIGER-DISAPPEARING-SPOILER]Makoto, a freshman on his first day at university, meets a cute girl named Shizuru. Makoto is normally shy around people, but is attracted to Shizuru for her childlike appearance and behavior. Shizuru wants to be with Makoto, so she develops an interest in his hobby of photography. The two spend time together taking photos in a nearby forest. However, Makoto soon develops stronger feelings for another student named Miyuki, who is beautiful and more well developed. Shizuru, seeing this, hints to Makoto that she will grow up to be a beautiful woman, and he will be sorry for not picking her. One day, she tells Makoto that she wants to take a photo of them kissing in the forest as a present for her birthday, which they do.

After this, Shizuru unexpectedly leaves school and is not heard from again for two years. Makoto receives a letter asking him to come to New York to see Shizuru's debut photography exhibit. By then Makoto has broken up with Miyuki because he has decided he really loves Shizuru, and will wait for her to return. When he arrives in New York, he is greeted by Miyuki, and finds out that Shizuru was hiding a disease from him, and has died. Apparently when she fell in love with Makoto, and started eating more to "grow up" for him, she accelerated her disease. He goes to the exhibit and sees many photos of himself, and a huge photo of Shizuru all grown up and beautiful, as she had foretold. There is also the photo of the two of them kissing in the forest, with a caption saying that this was her one true love.[/CROUCHING-TIGER-DISAPPEARING-SPOILER]

I'm really not a fan of love flicks let alone watch it by myself but this one is an exception. I first saw this movie when I was in Japan, on a date, and embarrassed myself for crying like a kid to which my date found very cute haha :hiya:
Aoi Miyazaki was perfect for the role, she's very cute for the childlike Satonaka and very pretty when she developed into a full grown woman. I like the way she lashed out when Makoto invited Miyuki in their "secret spot." Hiroshi Tamaki, by the way is my favorite Japanese actor, on the other hand, was fitting as the awkward and boyish Segawa.

The story line was totally amazing and not heavy on drama and the lines are not cheeky. I liked how it was presented as Makoto's flashbacks. Did I mention that I cried while watching this film? Wait until you get to the photo exhibit part. picture66.jpg?w=240&h=180

Overall this is one of the greatest Japanese movies that I've ever seen because unlike any other this one actually makes me feel something and I'd say something. It gets to your heart instead of being overly depressing. As much as I wanted to tell more about this movie I decided not to. I want everyone to see and love this movie for what it is. I highly recommend it for anyone who likes memorable love stories.

P.S. Here's one of Satonaka's letters to Segawa

[CROUCHING-TIGER-DISAPPEARING-SPOILER]Dear Makoto, how are you? It’s been two years. Were you surprised by the sudden letter? First of all, I want to apologize for disappearing without thanking you for everything you have done for me. On that day you kissed me, I suddenly felt embarrassed. Not by the kiss, but at the fact that I was all talk and didn't mature at all. That’s why; I decided to take a little adventure. I call it, “Journey of Independence.” Just depending on my camera, that you taught me how to use, I came to New York by myself. It was a good thing I had the courage to come but I didn't have a destination. I just wandered around for days until I was hired by my current photo agency. It’s pretty famous over here; an independent agency by the name MG Studio. And you know, I was working as an assistant for this independent photographer and I was taking my own photographs too. One thing lead to another and it turns out they will be having an exhibition of my photographs. I really want you to see my exhibition-my first exhibition and the sight of me, who has grown so much in these two years. I’m sure you’ll be astonished when you see me now, because as I declared to you earlier, I became a beautiful woman. I’m sure you will regret it, “I should've gone out with her then”. But the truth is, things like that aren't important. Right now, I just want to see you. I want to see you and if possible, hear you praise me. I want you to tell me, “You’ve worked hard” “Good Job”. With a kind voice, just like back then (She refers to the time he had guided her about the pedestrian crossing). “You can’t cross here, so you should cross ahead.” I fell in love with you that very moment, you know.”[/CROUCHING-TIGER-DISAPPEARING-SPOILER]

Review: The story begins with a chase between FBI Agent Sean Archer against his rival terrorist Castor Troy. For action fans, it is a pleasure to see John Travolta literally face-off with Nicholas Cage. Now, in an attempt to determine where a planted bomb is in Los Angeles, Archer agreed to switch faces with a Troy in coma. The consent was not without initial reluctance. Archer now at the guise of Troy’s face meets with the mastermind of the group to gain the trust of the criminal organization to determine the location of the bomb.

In a twist of events, Archer meets Troy who was now wearing Archer’s face. He revealed that he forced everyone behind the procedure to transplant Archer’s face to Troy before killing them. At this point no one knows about the surgery performed and that Archer is now Troy and vice versa. The two leads switches faces but live the personalities that they have. I give props to the actors for being able to perform their roles with such effortless deceptive performances.

Castor enjoyed living Archer’s life especially playing husband to Archer’s wife and father to Archer’s daughter. Archer finds Castor’s ex-girlfriend who mothered Castor’s son.

Without spoiling the resolution, the movie came out big with the fight scenes making it one of my favorite action movie of all time. It did have a curious storyline which can appeal to many audiences. The names Castor and Pollux are referenced to Greek Mythology. The actors did a splendid job playing two different roles especially after the personality split.

    Review:

So I was up early Monday morning thinking that I can watch the Live Telecast of the 2014 MTV Movie Awards only to find out that it's not going to be aired until 8ish in the evening. Out of boredom, I scanned local channels as well and found 101 Dalmatians about to start at ABS-CBN. Since this is one of my loved movies during my childhood, I decided to watch it for old time's sake.

    Plot (from Wiki)
After watching it as an adult, the movie has somehow lost it's "fun appeal" maybe because I'm no longer a fan of slapstick comedy. The plot is as simple as it could but Glenn Close was an effective villain; Cruella De Vil. You'd know right away that she's the bad guy, the "fur coat addict" who wanted to skin the puppies to create her dalmatian spotted coat. I remember still laughing at her when she was dunked in mud and other icky substances. Also, I now recognized Hugh Laurie as one of the two henchmen who "dognapped" the puppies of Roger (Jeff Daniels) and Anita (Joely Richardson).

'Tis best watched with kids and be delighted as they laugh out loud at the funny scenes. I know I'm no longer in the target demographic but I'd sure will let my future kids watch this. BTW, kudos to ABS-CBN, they didn't tagalize it... *okay*

Set in the 1960s, the film takes us to the journey of Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Ennis Del Mar (Heath Ledger), two country boys hired to herd sheep through the summer at the Brokeback Mountain. There, they discovered some kind of connection that ultimately awaken something about themselves. As their lives goes on after their Brokeback Mountain stint, the two men realized that truly, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Over time, despite having individual families - they still see each other knowing that what they had is something that us far more important than any forces in their lives.

With the screenplay written by one of my favorite author, (Larry McMurtry who wrote it along with Diana Ossana) my attachment with this film goes beyond being a fan of the story. The mood of the movie was as melancholic as its story accompanied by its absolutely haunting musical score. The subtle approach of Ang Lee in delivering a controversial yet heavy emotional narrative allows its audience to weep with the character - such instance happen when the distraught Ennis Del Mar broke down while hugging Jack's bloodied clothing. That for me was the highlight of the film. It was a stunning portrayal of love loss and an eternal questions of what-if's. Ang Lee truly is a master of his craft.
