    Good:
    Cameos
    Action Packed
    Nostalgic

    Not so good:
    Bland
    Tired Plot
    Clich?s

Set in a world where Legos are alive. A regular construction worker is thrust into Savior status all of a sudden. He is helped by a small band of Lego characters, both familiar and unique and travel through Lego Land not just to save his world but their whole universe.

Playing on the nostalgia and quirks of the Lego world, the film offers something for everyone. Rich with cameos, inside jokes and references, it does the comedy bit quite well alongside quite a lot of action packed sequences. I?m still on the fence on the final sequence, I?m aware of the film makers intentions of including it, to add heart, but I felt it was a little bit drawn out and corny.

Contrary to the catchy theme, I didn?t find everything to be awesome. I found the world quite bland and repetitive and some of the characterizations confusing, not to mention the lessons/signals here I felt they were sending (its ok to hit on someone else?s girl and the amount of violence, Lego style) was contrasting for me. Maybe I?m just getting too old for this $#;%

Overall the film has heart and is entertaining, but the pieces are a little all over the place.

    Fantasy

I guess I don't really have to disclose the plot of this movie, because I guess this is pretty true to JM Barrie's original. What I loved was the subtle something something of Peter (Jeremy Sumpter) and Wendy (Rachel Hurd-Wood).

    Wendy+and+Peter+-+Peter+Pan+-+J+M+Barrie+-+So+Long+Ago+So+Clear+-+London+-+Hounslow+-+Peter+Crawford.jpg

Wendy Darling from this version of Peter Pan is, to me, one of the most memorable characters I've come across, because you see, she is confused. She doesn't not want responsibilities yet, but she knows it's inevitable, and she's getting ready for the day that her father won't let her sleep in the nursery anymore. But while that isn't happening yet, she is trying to enjoy being a child while she can.

Peter, too, is quite a complex character, everyone sees him as fun-loving and childish, and that's what he wants to be. That's why even though he knows that he feels something for Wendy, he is denying it because he doesn't want to grow up.

The story of Peter Pan had never really appealed to me until I've seen this one, so I know in my bones that I really like this movie. Might I even add that I watch this at least three times a year since I've seen it for the first time?

A film by Liam Neeson is always a good one for me. Good thing this one did not disappoint.

The story is eventually quite good. Medyo maganda yung twist ng story na in the end eh sila pala yung mga terrorists. Na-build-up talaga yung suspense at mapapa-isip ka sa mystery on how some situations happened in the movie at kung sino talaga yung mga criminals. Medyo kulang lang sa side-story sana on some histories at kung paano sana napili yung mismong airplane na pinag-dutyhan ni Agent Bill. Lastly, gusto ko yung ending na kahit papano eh medyo me konting mabubong relationship with Bill and Jen.

I've seen a lot of action movies in theaters but somehow I felt na hindi sila theater-worthy movie, but this one it is! Yung level ng movie na to for me eh parang sa movie "Taken". Panalo. *okay*

This is one of my favorite Julia Roberts movies. Adapted from the book of the same name, it was the life affirming experience of the author itself, Liz who travelled halfway across the world to find herself. She went to Italy to think things over where she met tons of friends who taught her the beauty of acceptance and living life. Then she went to India to find her spiritual self learning the beauty of self-preservation. Right after her Indian trip, she went again to Indonesia where she finally found her one true love. It was an amazing movie! It was very engaging and funny at times. It teaches you about freedom, choices - like what exactly do you want to do in life and what are you gonna do about it to do those things?

I'd definitely recommend this to people who love long Julia Roberts film. I guess, that is one of my concern about this film. It was way too long. Although, I wasn't expecting much from it when I first saw it, you can't help but fall inlove with the America's sweetheart - Julia Roberts is truly one of a kind. ;)

    Review:

I was overly excited when I saw Maleficent's official teaser two years ago because finally, a famous Disney fairy tale villain's story is going to be unraveled. I was excited to discover what made Maleficent's heart as cold as ice and as hard as stone. And what made her thirsty for vengeance to King Stefan and his family.

Apparently, Maleficent was a victim of betrayal and selfishness of the man she mistook for someone she could trust. She was a really smart girl... until she fell in love. :depressed:

Reading other people's reviews before watching the movie, I thought I was going to hate it because I'm a huge fan of evil queens and super wicked antagonists, and Disney obviously did an interesting twist to the story of Sleeping Beauty's evil fairy godmother; I was surprised I ended up liking it.

I love how Disney is making up for its lame versions of well-known fairy tales years ago and making the recent ones more diverse and related to reality. To sum it all, Maleficent was a pretty decent family slash adventure film from its flawless special effects made for 3D to Angelina Jolie's effortless brilliant acting. *okay* :)

    ***This review may contain spoilers.

'Maleficent' explores the tale of one of Disney's most iconic villains, the wicked fairy who cast a spell of death on Sleeping Beauty.

    01_mf_poster.jpg

Attempting to diverge from the classic story and the way it was told, the movie centers on Maleficent and how she became the wicked fairy we've always thought she was.

A charming and adventurous fairy, the young Maleficent befriends a young and ambitious peasant boy, Stefan, whom she fell in love with when she reaches 16. But after a shared lip-lock, the boy stops seeing her to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a king, breaking her heart. Years and years passed, and the now adult Stefan ovehears the severely-illed King promising his throne to anyone who would bring Maleficent down. Stefan comes back to Maleficent with his secret hideous plan and returns to the kingdom with the fairy's wings, claiming of having killed her.

Consumed by the betrayal of the man she loved, Maleficent builds a dark kingdom beyond the human borders. One day when revenge has totally taken hold of her, her raven delivers the news about the christening of King Stefan's daughter.

To fulfill her plan of vengeance, Maleficent arrives uninvited and puts a curse to the child her: a sleeplike death upon getting her finger pricked on a spinning wheel spindle, when she reaches 16.

A bold and cunning take on a well-loved fairytale, 'Maleficent' suffers from the overwhelming imbalance among its elements. Its central character, Maleficent herself, outshines almost any other aspect of the movie. Some characters like the three pixies, the King and Diaval (the raven), feel like underdeveloped and not fully utilized. Angelina Jolie is no doubt the biggest and most interesting element in this movie, her role shining over the fact that the movie's overstuffed with spectacular CGI effects, only to be dulled by bland characterizarion and some rushed and unnecessary action-sequences.

In entirety, the whole movie is good, and somehow brilliant. 'Maleficent' manages to deliver some unexpected twists, some laugh-inducing humor. Elle Fanning exudes a seemingly-natural charm which, though not fully used, is enough to justify her role. Beyond its flaws, Maleficent remains a family-friendly film ought to be seen by young kids and everyone who grew up believing in the magic of true love. 'Maleficent' shares a relatable message of love, hope and forgiveness, one that people will never get tired of holding on to forever, making it a must-see family event.

Do not believe the fairy tale!!! :glee:

This revision of a classic fairy tale gives us not one but two heroines, who share a special bond: an older one with magical powers and a young princess innocently devoted to the first.

    My review in 6 statements:
    1. I like for a fact that Maleficent (Angelina Jolie) was rehabilitated in this film.
    2. The prince is useless! Although, he was introduced in line with the "true love's kiss", but he was ultimately irrelevant!
    3. Also, the good fairies (Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple and Leslie Manville) are irrelevant, impotent and ridiculous.
    4. Is it just me or did somebody else think that this is too Frozenish?
    5. Angelina Jolie is the only thing that's great about this movie. She made it watchable when nothing else does.
    6. Though, there was an attempt to show the famous villain's darker side, I find the overall vibe still fairy tale like and child-friendly.Sadly, it didn't live up to the hype.

    P.S.
With this revision, the original fairy-tale should be changed from Sleeping Beauty to "Napping Beauty" or "A Princess Who Took A Short Nap." :glee: :rotflmao:

An outspoken gay writer attempt to raise awareness to a deadly new disease infecting fellow homosexuals during the early 80s.
Powerful performance by the all-star cast, it’s a wonder this was only released on cable tv and not on the big screen. I was a little alienated during the start, I had no idea about the topic of the film, I was just looking forward to see Jim Parsons and Mark Ruffalo in some other roles, was I surprised to see Julia Roberts here as well as Alfred Molina. Based on a true story, the film portrays the trials and hardships of the gay community during those times as well as some of the nuances of being in a same sex relationship. The struggle is the star here while the culture provides an effective background.
An account of what happened during those early years, through the eyes of someone right in the face of a rising killer, this is a must watch film, rich with lessons and inspiration.

    Review:

That Awkward Moment is one of those basic romantic comedy films in the US that was fearlessly funded and released. A story of three average NYC joes who are never ready for a serious relationship. Totally not for someone who wants to be twitterpated by a romcom chick flick because there is nothing really special about the movie that will make someone feel like its a Katherine Heigl or Rachel McAdams movie.

One will probably watch That Awkward Moment because of two primary reasons: its catchy title that has always been trending on social media as a topic starter and Zac Efron. The movie was nothing but just a New Girl episode only with different cast and characters. The movie's predictability drove its audiences down to the boredom highway; a complete package of a trying-hard romcom cliche.

Nevertheless, That Awkward Moment was still a good movie for someone who has all the time in the world and fond of Zac Efron. *okay*

This movie disappointed me. It was nice that they tried to create a new story out of the classic Sleeping Beauty, but it sucked big time. I know that it is Disney so they tried to show the good side of a villainous character, but they made Maleficent such an angel that it drained away the original character. Angelina Jolie is only the magnificent part of this film. Her acting was flawless. I also give kudos to Sharlto Copley as the greedy King, he was a good antagonist. The visual effects are also stunning, but I can't get past the awful writing.

    Movie Title: Salt
    Year: 2010
    Genre: Action
    Rating: 8/10

    salt_film_theatrical_poster.jpg?w=500

When I first saw this film in the cinema, I remember clapping inside my head through all the film's action sequences. Like seriously, the film's got some [email protected] moves. I even told my buddy back then (I think it's about the same time Step Up 3D was showing) that this film is comparable to the film because of their unbelievably amazing choreography!! Angelina really knows her craft and her audience! :naughty:

Watching Salt is like watching Wanted all over again. It has all the similar elements. Ooh, and who could forget that interrogation scene??

    "What's your name?

    Salt. Evelyn Salt.

Then you are a Russian spy"

This film also reminds me of Dark Angel - or atleast he Transgenics of the show where the kids were trained much like Evelyn Salt were trained. The twist was cool and I'm still looking forward for the film's sequel! I hope they'd do it soon enough though since I haven't heard anything from it so far. This was a well-developed film that takes action film in a whole new level. One of Angelina's unforgettable films that is.

    Director: Phillip Noyce

Starring: Angelina Jolie, Liev Schreiber, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Daniel Olbrychski, August Diehl, Daniel Pierce, Hunt Block, Andre Braugher, Olek Krupa, Cassidy Hinkle, Corey Stoll

    Movie Title: Memento
    Year: 2000
    Genre: Suspense, Mystery
    Rating: 9/10

    215px-Memento_poster.jpg

Memento is up there on almost every list of the best films ever made, and if you've seen it, it's easy to understand why. It's quite brilliant.

Guy Pearce plays Leonard Shelby, a man who is out looking for his wife's killer. To make things more interesting, Leonard suffers from anterograde amnesia, meaning he can't retain new memories, and the last thing he remembers is his wife dying. The plot itself is already engaging, but what really sets the film apart is the narrative structure. It's told backwards, you see. And while some would say that it's merely a gimmick, I think it somehow serves the story. It makes you share in Leonard's confusion, and in the end you're left pondering on what's true and what isn't. It's one of those films that warrants multiple viewings (and so far the only one I'll ever consider watching in reverse. :glee:)

    Title: Maybe This Time
    Year of Release: 2014
    Genre: Romance/Comedy

    Rating: 5/10

Probably the worst romcom Star Cinema movie I've seen so far this year, 'Maybe This Time' is just another local romantic flick trying to emulate the success made by recent blockbusters like 'Bride For Rent' and 'Starting Over Again'.

    Maybe-This-Time-Poster.jpg

There is no doubt Sarah Geronimo and Coco Martin are among the biggest stars of today, they're bright on their own, but together in this movie, their partnership felt forced and dim. I didn't quite feel the chemistry they were trying to create here. Worse, the plot itself wasn't solid enough to take the excitement to higher level. I spent 40 minutes of this movie convincing myself to stay and not walk out of the theater, but I didn't and that's because of Ogie Diaz's extremely funny character (Mamamey). I believe 'Mamamey' was among the few saving graces of this movie.

Well I cannot deny the fact that Sarah and Coco looked good individually, and maybe, somehow, together, but it just felt there was something lacking. Their journey itself failed providing relatable struggles to keep the audience glued; it felt bland and underdeveloped, made even worse by Ruffa Gutierrez's ridiculous portrayal of a manipulative socialite girlfriend of Tonyo, Coco's character.

This movie is full of clich?s, following the same old romcom formula about lovers separated by social status and brought back together by fate, and that could have been tolerable, had the story taken even a slight detour from its already overused course.

    Movie Title: Godzilla
    Year: 2014
    Genre: Sci-Fi / Action
    Rating: 7.5 of 10

    godzilla-roaring-movie-still.jpg

    Review:

Godzilla for me is still epic and worth the wait. Kahit medyo hindi impressive yung starring actors especially Ken Watanabe. Only Bryan Cranston did his expected role on his acting and too bad his role was not supposed to go until the end of the movie. But still, hinabol ng presence ni Godzilla yung kakulangan sa movie as expected.

The story line is good somehow but still I felt na marami pa din ang kulang like how Godzilla developed his affection or respect sa mga humans given na hindi sha naging threat totally to our existence. Being on the top of the food chain, what are humans to him anyway. I enjoyed most of the fight scenes with Godzilla showing how alpha he is against other beasts. Sana eh more screentime ng laban nila especially on day time at hindi madilim or night or cloudy. Godzilla's appearance looks more of his Japanese version rather than the 1998's version. He is now back again to being massive and bulky. Mas astig yung presence.

I got a feeling na pinapasabik lang tayo ng mga directors and writers to catch a good glimpse for the possible sequels. They did good actually on bringing back our favorite monster. But still, hindi naman ako disappointed on how the movie turned out.

Movie Title: It Takes a Man and a Woman
    Year: 2013
    Genre: Drama/Comedy
    Rating: 8.5 out of 10

    TOGETHER+2.jpg

If you're a sucker for Star Cinema romcoms, this is one of those few that you could watch over and over again. Sure, it's your usual cheesy romantic comedy flick but if you have followed the series, you will be satisfied after watching this. You will laugh, cry, laugh again, then cry again. Really, it's a rollercoaster ride. Acting wise Sarah has matured a lot and goes to show in her character which is Laida Magtalas V2.0. (Except that she still didn't want to kiss JLC at that time which I found ridiculous). As for John Lloyd, he was his usual-great-actor-self except that he looked kinda stressed and chubbier here than before.

The story revolves around Laida and Miggy who cross paths again but this time Laida is stronger and more sophisticated while Miggy is still the same dealing with his family's struggling businesses. They find themselves working together again while they still have lingering issues and feelings for each other. As usual you will laugh with Joross and friends and the banters between Laida and Miggy. The movie has some flaws though: the airport proposal scene was cheesy and corny, their wedding vows were too long, Sarah doesn't want to be kissed which doesn't make sense, and her voice is quite annoying at times.

Still, this is a fitting end to the Laida and Miggy saga. I don't know if I still want another movie because it already ended in a high note. Well, if that happens, hopefully they surpass this one.

    Flipped
    2010
    Romance
    8.5/10

Flipped tells the story of teenagers Bryce Loski (Callan McAuliffe) and Juli Baker (Madeline Carroll), who live across each other, and are in totally contrasting situations: Bryce lives in a quite well-off life with his proud father, rebellious sister, erratic mother, and estranged grandfather; while Juli, despite being financially unfortunate, lives with her loving parents and ambitious brothers.

From that moment in 1957 when his family moved in across their home, young Juli knew it was love that she was feeling towards Bryce. As they grew up she had never bothered to hide her feelings for him. Bryce, on the other hand, felt absolutely repulsed. He didn't like Juli at all! If he felt something towards her, it would only be one thing: irritated.

It was 1963, and that was when Bryce's grandfather, Chet (John Mahoney), moves in with them. Bryce finds his grandfather distant, as if he wasn't living with them. Until one day he decides to talk to Bryce about Juli. Imagine his annoyance when even at home, Juli is in his life. Chet tells Bryce that Juli was a special girl and that it's hard to find someone like that. Bryce just scoffs it off, but his grandfather tells him to try to get to know her without any ill feelings towards her. Meanwhile, Juli's favorite tree-- a Sycamore tree, was cut down, which led her in a depressed state. Bryce doesn't see her much around anymore, and when he does see her, a part of him wants to approach her to say sorry about her favorite tree, but his pride stops him. He doesn't want Juli to think he misses her!

After the Sycamore tree got cut down, it got Juli thinking more about her feelings for Bryce. What she can only see are his dazzling eyes, but once she tries to dig deeper, she realizes he isn't even all that. Another unfortunate incident happens which proves her theory that there was nothing good about Bryce.

And that's when it all gone downhill. Bryce now realized how beautiful Juli really was, but she doesn't want anything to do with him anymore. Hence, the title.

I loved the movie adaption. Although it wasn't exactly like the book, it felt like it. I loved the actors who played Juli and Bryce, as they are fresh faced actors whom you haven't seen anywhere yet. The scoring and the music were wonderful, and Rob Reiner's direction is nothing short of delightful.

    Twilight
    2008
    Romance
    6.5/10

I don't think I have to explain why I think this is the one of the most overrated movie/movie series ever.

I also don't think I have to explain how the plot goes, since I am assuming that everyone has already seen this at least once. But I will anyway.

Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) was in a way forced (but it was her choice) to move in with her father (Billy Burke) in sleepy, quiet Forks. She can't help being drawn into mysterious rich boy Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), who she finds out is a vampire who can sparkle in the sun. They have a whirlwind forbidden romance until another vampire wants Bella's blood.

To be honest, the movie isn't bad, but it isn't that good either. I used to think the movie was pretty good, until the series got over-hyped, and I kind of got sick of it, but then, that's just my opinion.

Movie Title: The Fault In Our Stars
    Year: 2014
    Genre: Drama
    Rating: 9.5/10

The story is centered on sixteen-year-old cancer patient Hazel, who is forced by her parents to attend a support group, where she meets Augustus Waters, an ex-basketball player and amputee. From there, they were inseparable that even led to Augustus granting Hazel’s wish to meet the author of her favorite book, flying them both to Amsterdam.

I honestly didn’t set too many expectations prior to seeing this. I mean, the book was one of the best reads I’ve had recently and I didn’t want to spoil the whole experience if the movie didn’t live up to its promise. Fortunately, the movie didn’t disappoint. From the onset of the film, I was already grinning from ear to ear and midway through it until the end – I think I was one of the viewers bawling like a 12 year-old girl whose puppy just got kicked!

I just really love how effective and succinct Shailene Woodley as Hazel. This girl could pull you into a corner and just be in awe of her emotional depth. It’s amazing how she’s able to make you smile and feel giddy about her and Gus (Ansel Elgort). At the latter part of the film, I was with her crying. I feel her pain and I feel her resolve. She truly connects in such a way that everyone could easily relate to. Ansel on the other hand was dreamy as Augustus Waters. He’s got a really good chemistry with Shailene and I think everyone sighed heavily (wishing they were Hazel) during the swing scene and that oh-so-well-rehearsed dinner. It was almost too much but it’s still awe-worthy. Shailene and Ansel intricately worn the characters of Hazel and Augustus to life that it’s almost difficult to let any one of them go.

It was also nice to note that Josh Boone who directed the film and Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber who wrote the screenplay decided to be subtle about their approach on one of the characters fate. For someone who hasn’t read this John Green novel, it was a bit surprising and heartbreaking at the same time.

Another wonderful thing about this adaptation is the fact that it goes beyond its target audience much like the book. It’ll destroy your emotion but keeps you on the ride at the same time. The Fault In Our Stars has one solid story that will probably rival Noah and Allie on a different kind of level – bittersweet yet there is acceptance. It was magnified in such a way that it does not really revolved on two cancer patients but rather the romance, the young love and that heartfelt loss and acceptance that will forever be in their hearts.
